Look at those Redskins go :) 2&0 and a 20-12 win in Philly

Giants at home next, I fancy the Skins to go 3&0

Grim Reaper 20-09-2007 07:04 PM

Strathclyde

Seeing as it's just down to me and you on the Survival game there's two ways we can do it.

a) both continue to pick sensible picks until one of us get shafted by something like San Diego -17 losing at home to Kansas

OR

b) I pick the Jets this week and you pick the Dolphins and we'll have a winner nice and quick PLUS the addded bonus of whoever the winner is, gets to smirk at the fact THEIR team won it for them.

Are you up for option b) ????

I've made a very sensible pick thus far but am happy to pick the Jets if you do Miami

Strathclyde Eagle 20-09-2007 09:47 PM

I'm loyal, not stupid. ;)

I've picked New England this week.

BTW apparently the Jets are only given 3 or 3.5 points by Vegas this week (can't remember which). Can't believe that if I'm truly honest.

Think you might like Bill Simmons' new weekly podcast where he and a friend try to guess the weekly lines. Strangely addictive and easy to join in with in the car.

Grim Reaper 21-09-2007 11:17 PM

Well that kind of makes it dull as I went for New England as well.

Surpised you're so down on Miami's chances.

Granted Jets did the double last year but both games were by 3 points. Miami with 3.5 might come in.......which I'll be happy with as long as Jets win.

Strathclyde Eagle 21-09-2007 11:43 PM

The Fins won't be coming in. Zach Thomas is out with a concussion now (announced earlier this evening).

Grim Reaper 22-09-2007 12:28 AM

Good job - he put in some big hits on NY players on Xmas Day last year IIRC!

Grim Reaper 23-09-2007 07:41 PM

No sign of Strathclyde????

Maybe he'll appear when Miami level things up in a minute

Grim Reaper 23-09-2007 07:47 PM

98 YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARDS!!!!

The Official Jets 'Offensive Play of The Year' for 2006 was Leon v Miami.

Reckon Leon v Miami might win that award again. :-)

Grim Reaper 23-09-2007 07:49 PM

Miami flying downfield again now

Are we on for another legendary Week 3 game???

Grim Reaper 23-09-2007 07:57 PM

Philly's Kevin Curtis 144 receiving yards in 16 mins!!!

On target for a 500+ yard game!!!!!!

Grim Reaper 23-09-2007 09:30 PM

Love it. It's taken 24 years but I've actually cheered a Dolphins point against the Jets, or, more specifically TWO points.

The 2 pointer brings in the o17.5 2nd half points bet.

Nice fake from Trent Green to set that up. :-)

Given how last weekend worked out I decided to have a sport-free weekend. Feels extremely odd in all honesty, although a great deal more relaxing.

We got 424 total yards against you. How bad is your defence?

(Not as bad as our special teams coverage, obviously.)

Grim Reaper 24-09-2007 12:44 PM

The Jets had a wonderful ability to be ranked 20th or lower in just about everything last year yet still win 10 games and make the play offs.

Ronnie Brown best player on the pitch (as he was in the same fixture last year) yet ends up on the losing side.

All part of the magic of ERIC MANGINIUS!

Funny you should ditch sport for a weekend - just had my best sporting weekend since god knows when with Jets, Giants, Hull (rugby) Palace and Bayern all winning. Hell I even had a guest give me a winning horse tip at 9/1!!

So, come on Tony, join in. J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!!

kolja51 24-09-2007 02:08 PM

How about those Cards. Kurt Warner comes in and plays like a veteran that has a Superbowl ring (...oh he does) comes back from 21 points down, leaves minute and a half on the clock for defence to hold on, and defence blows it up. You would think that by supporting Cardinals I would get used to stuff like that... Will we ever be good?

He's great when he's used properly. Just all too often, he isn't used properly. :bash:

Grim Reaper 24-09-2007 10:57 PM

Could be a watershed weekend - both teams had stellar showings from their RB's.

Hopefully Jets can get Jones on the case from now on and we'll have the prime RB we've been missing since Curtis Martin got injured and put out of the game.

Grim Reaper 27-09-2007 06:57 PM

Can anyone tell me what Cam Cameron was referring to inm a recent press conference when he said 'I'm not doing a Jim Mora'

It seemed very jokey and Cameron was also laughing. Just wondering what Mora did in the past - maybe an outburst??

Strathclyde Eagle 27-09-2007 09:03 PM

He's referring to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwq7BYOnDrM

See the Mike Gundy link on the College Football thread. That's better in my opinion.

Grim Reaper 27-09-2007 10:33 PM

Funily enough I saw the Mike Gundy thing when catching up with NFL Total Access about two hours ago.

Very good rant and interesting that he got applause rather than laughter when he stormed off.

:D

Love that.

Strathclyde Eagle 30-09-2007 08:06 PM

Fins 14-0 down.

Can we have a guess when we'll call the inevitable reverse for a four yard loss?

Strathclyde Eagle 30-09-2007 08:11 PM

No more discussion about the #1 RB now, surely? What a run by Ronnie Brown.

Strathclyde Eagle 30-09-2007 08:16 PM

Mr Taylor, if you're going to get a stupid penalty then go for Culpepper's knees. :bash:

BTW, I remember last year's Raiders game in Seattle when they couldn't block anybody. This Fins front seven can't pressure anybody.

Strathclyde Eagle 30-09-2007 08:23 PM

Ronnie Brown again! Just about all his own work.

Strathclyde Eagle 30-09-2007 08:28 PM

Great work on that drive by Green and Chambers. I'm off to YouTube to try and find some John Beck footage.

jlmatthews 30-09-2007 08:32 PM

Daunte looks like he really wants to stick it to your boys today, Tony...

Strathclyde Eagle 30-09-2007 08:48 PM

Think you're right Jason.

That play-action call on 4th down looked like an ego call for Culpepper. Past evidence says they could have run for that easily, even with Jordan on the sidelines.

Grim Reaper 30-09-2007 08:53 PM

Strathclyde - who you got in teh Survival game?

I'm on Dallas

You might as well uncover your picks because I'll do different from you every week if I know who you've got.

Jets are yet to figure out how to use Thomas Jones. 11 carries in the 4th quarter ain't gonna cut it. He's not a guy who's going to bust a big one everytime he touches the ball... but you have to keep feeding him. He seems like a forgotten man sometimes with the Jets.

Strathclyde Eagle 30-09-2007 09:09 PM

But for now I'll settle for listening to my 3rd fave team and the best commentators of all the NFL teams......SAN DIEGO!

The nearest Palace equivalent to tonight I can recall is the 5-0 defeat at Wigan, or in a slightly different way, the play-off games with Watford.

A lot of times we've not been good enough. We haven't given up many times. And in the worst of times, Palace fans come through. Dolphins fans just leave and let the visiting fans have a party (and they complain about losing a game for the Wembley visit? Puh-lease.).

Very interesting comment on Alexander by a Seahawks fan on Bill Simmons' column this week, and about how (in his opinion) he doesn't grind out the tough yards.

Rather than struggle to pick a different team for every sport I kind of fell into the pattern c1984 of New York for everything, be it Jets, Giants, Yankees or Mets.

Hell, I even liked New York New Jersey Knights in the World League!!

Been known to wear my Pennington 10 an Tiki 21 jerseys on the same day (but not simultaneously!)

Strathclyde Eagle 01-10-2007 12:04 AM

We're really bad. Notre Dame might give us a game at the moment.

Those Giants! Sound the sporting bigamy alarm. ;)

I'd also make the Cowboys favourites in the NFC, but their weakness is their secondary and after week one it's hardly been tested. If the Seahawks can up their game that's one very big potential challenger to them.

Grim Reaper 01-10-2007 03:25 PM

There must be a red hot favourite for the Heisman Trophy this year because whoever he is, the Dolphins obviously want to make sure they get him!

Strathclyde Eagle 01-10-2007 06:20 PM

I wouldn't say there is, and our needs are above and beyond one player. If Ronnie Brown keeps up his recent form then Darren McFadden definitely isn't what we need, and if we draft a QB then why waste a #2 on Beck this past draft?

Then again, that wouldn't be unlike us. Here's a great post on where the Fins have gone wrong in recent years (warning, very, VERY long):
http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/sh...d.php?t=215885

I don't know why I'm saying this when they've got one more win than us, but if Brian Brohm isn't a Falcon next year I'd be very surprised.

Strathclyde Eagle 02-10-2007 12:17 PM

BTW, if anyone is wondering why I like Gus Johnson, well it all starts from this Bill Simmons' comment from four years ago:
Quote:

And then we have the surging Bengals. Put it this way: When Jon Kitna gets in the zone like this, you just climb aboard and hold on for the ride. And when Gus Johnson and Brent Jones are breathlessly narrating that same ride ... well, it reminds me of a place called nirvana. If only Gus and Brent were around to announce my wedding video:

- Gus: "Now here's the drunken groom sneaking out onto the balcony ... wait a second ... HE WANTS TO SMOKE A CIGARETTE WITH HIS BUDDIES!"

- Brent: "Gutsy move by the groom ... I'm not sure if I'd risk it this early in the reception. If the bride notices, all hell could break loose."

- GUS: "And he is ... CAUGHT! HE'S CAUGHT! And she is a house of fire!"

- Brent: "Gus, this room is absolutely stunned right now. You HAVE to wonder about that call by the groom."
And of course Gus at his best. Ignore if you don't like College Basketball:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiy59lXkw0s

Strathclyde Eagle 04-10-2007 12:04 AM

Good grief, the Fins are only a 5.5 point underdog in Houston this Sunday. Playing along with Bill Simmons' podcast my guess was in the 8-9 point range.

jlmatthews 04-10-2007 03:38 AM

For you Fins fans... I got media passes for Miami at Cleveland. Any questons you'd like me to ask that might be relevant post game?

Strathclyde Eagle 04-10-2007 07:35 AM

Do they fancy their chances of being let back into the country after the game at Wembley?

Strathclyde Eagle 04-10-2007 07:53 AM

Just saw Devin Hester's latest effort on NFL.com. Might be his best one yet in terms of moves and avoiding tackles.

RDSdaEAGLE 04-10-2007 08:35 AM

I'm surprised Devin doesn't see more offensive play action. He's incredible when returning the ball, why not give him a bit more of a go when trying to rush some yards?

jlmatthews 04-10-2007 02:36 PM

Because he fumbles waaaaaay too much. Once he gets that sorted, I think you'll probably see more of him.

But then again, lok at Daunte Hall. The guy's gangbusters on special teams and is mediocre at best as a wideout. If you can't run good, clean routes NFL DB's are going to have no problems covering you...

Strathclyde Eagle 04-10-2007 09:37 PM

That Trent Green injury looked frightening. I didn't hear it especially well, but it seems like it's just a concussion.

I know I've criticised his performances so far this year, but he got injured trying his hardest to help the team in a way a lot of QBs wouldn't (throwing a block). I hope he's ok.

jlmatthews 07-10-2007 09:31 PM

Best of luck to TG, he was trying to do something positive for a struggling team... but it's not the best idea against a huge DT!
