One hell of a game in New York today

Giants in this game are symbolic of their overall season. Poor start then firing back strongly.

Burress gets a TD for my Fantasy Team (which is doing its usual mediocre effort) but I'm sitting here not wanting either team to lose!!

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 09:41 PM

Bloody New England

Took them to score over 14 2nd half and it's take them 20 minutes to even register a score this half. Fools.

What is the deal with Detroit? Explosive one week and limp the next

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 09:45 PM

Seattle 0 Pittsburgh 21

That's a strange score in my book. Really surprised Seattle held to a big fat 0

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 10:04 PM

Cheer up Tony

At least your boys covered the spread.

(What a way to lose though - 57 yarder with 0.01 on the clock. OUCH!)

Thanks for keep Jets off the bottom!!!

Strathclyde Eagle 07-10-2007 10:19 PM

Big ouch. Just have to tip your cap to Kris Brown. If he makes he makes it, but you can't assume a guy is going to make it from there. Fair play to him.

Pity, I watched most of it and thought we played ok. Defence still can't get off the field when it needs to most though.

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 10:19 PM

Gotta love the way the Pats rescue my money!

Ballsed up with theor 4 downs from a 1st and Goal on the 8 and the commentators lament the fact New England will not make it to the 30 mark for the first time this year. I'm cursing because I've done my money.

Next play, they get a defensive TD with 00.57 on the clock

:-)

Strathclyde Eagle 07-10-2007 10:25 PM

At Cleveland next week to avoid being 0-7 before Wembley.

There's no way we're winning in week 7. No guesses who we're playing.

Think I might have to get my "loyal supporter" scarf off the wall for the trip. :D

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 10:43 PM

Can't help feeling that if you do go to Wembley 0-7 you'll win v NYG. In fact I can see it being one of those quirks that Miami go 1-15 and only win that one.

A bit like Dallas going 1-15 a while back and at least beating Washington.

Also like when Arizona went something bad like 1-7 two seasons back and the 1 was their game in Mexico.

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 10:44 PM

74 yard punt in San Fran!!!

Is that a record????

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 10:45 PM

Hey, you could be Survival Champ by the morning. Colts well on their way to the win now.

I'm now waiting on Green Bay.

I watched this game on the PC, Seattle sucked big time, S Alexander had 25 yards rushing. And M Holmgren's play calling at the end of the 1st half was very suspect.

Grim Reaper 07-10-2007 11:02 PM

Christ, what's happened to Shaun these days?

25 yards?? That's even lower than Thomas Jones!!!

I cant make my mind up if it's Shaun on the decline or the lack of holes being opened up for him from his O line, but at the moment i will go for SA in decline.

Not even close! Don't you remember Randall Cunningham (yes, the QB) booting a 91 yarder against the Giants one year? (Wind-assisted and about twenty yards on the ground, but 91 yards nevertheless. Just about won them the game when they got a turnover shortly after.)

I might not be at Wembley. If I keep taking the mickey out of the X Factor I think the Mrs will end up killing me.

Interesting to note that the three games we've lost by 3 have been on the road. We don't have a home field advantage because the boo boys are too quick to be heard (hmm, sounds like another team I support).

jlmatthews 08-10-2007 02:15 AM

Come on Bears. Improve my weekend a little...

Well done Tony.

It was like watching a car crash in slow motion but being powerless to stop it. Just knew Chi Town would trash it for me - dumb Packers.

Trouble was I also knew that if I switched picks then Packers would win

Benzhiyi 08-10-2007 10:27 AM

That last second Fins loss was the most deflating piece of sport I've seen this year. (Mainly because I haven't made it to Selhurst much.)

Will we ever win again?

On the plus side, Samson Satele is going to develop into some player. :)

Ben, didn't you see the Raiders game? That was far, far worse in my opinion. The only thing that was worse about last night is that we looked capable of winning it.

Benzhiyi 08-10-2007 03:50 PM

Yes, the Raiders game was awful, but I fully expected us to lose from half-time onwards.

For the entire Texans game I was sure we'd win it until Cam opted not to kick the 56-yarder. So it was deflating in the sense that I went from optimistic to shattered in about two minutes.

Thankfully the Sox won in Anaheim to prevent my Sunday sports viewing from being a total write-off.

Strathclyde Eagle 08-10-2007 07:58 PM

I was worried we wouldn't win when lining up the 56 yarder. I thought a miss there with slightly less than two minutes on the clock gave them terrific field position. Therefore I was glad we took the time-out and pinned them back with a great punt.

Defence's fault letting them drive 60+ yards in what was effectively less than a minute.

Strathclyde Eagle 08-10-2007 08:49 PM

D'oh, I've won tailgate tickets for Wembley. :clown:

Right now I couldn't care less about these - want the actual game tickets instead! Will swap for wherever all the Palace fans are meeting up beforehand.

Funny you should put it like that. I keep getting bombarded with e-mails and offers to win tickets for this but it sounds a bit :moo: .

Why do you say this? Do you know that it'll be pants? Is it a bit cheesy?

Grim Reaper 08-10-2007 09:09 PM

Jets have scored 4 95+ yard kick returns in the last 17 games......yet managed to lose three of those games in which we scored.

Any idea which of the four games we won, Tony????

Benzhiyi 08-10-2007 09:38 PM

I applied for tailgate tickets but I imagine it'll feel artificial, particularly as Nookie and I experienced the real thing (and it was incredible) on opening day.

What is the plan for the big day, by the way?

My main problem is that ticket holders are encouraged to be there at midday. The Mrs and I can't check into our hotel until 2pm. :clown:

Plus I don't think there will be freebies there, it's a chance for the NFL to coin it in. Massive mark-ups on burgers, hot-dogs and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). I'd sooner meet up with people I know (Mr. C and yourself, for two) and those I'd like to meet (BenZhiyi, Blue Boy and everyone else on this thread), grab something cheaper to drink and pick up a sub on the way.

I'm prepared to go anywhere within reason to meet up if others would like to. While I've got an affinity for the Duke of York for Wembley trips it has been ten years since I've been there, so wouldn't complain if people don't think that's a good idea.

On current form at least I won't look stupid in my Ronnie Brown jersey.

Erm, week 3, this year?

BTW, weird deal with kick returns yesterday. Guys bringing it back from way back in the end zone and getting well over the 30. Does no-one coach special teams any more apart from San Diego?

Strathclyde Eagle 08-10-2007 10:35 PM

Now that Jake Delhomme is out for the season the Panthers are stuck with their new quarterback, Michael Jackson.

Only got my Tiki Barber one last year and the bu gger retired less than a year later.

Wouldn't mind a Shockey or Jacobs white away one. Anyone know a website BASED IN THIS COUNTRY that sells NFL gear. I've used Kitbag in the past but their range is limited.

Strathclyde Eagle 09-10-2007 12:00 AM

Cris, check PMs.

jlmatthews 09-10-2007 09:39 AM

Best game of the season so far tonight. Cowboys had absolutely no business being anywhere near winning that game.

Benzhiyi 09-10-2007 10:30 AM

Try the NASN site, Cris. I think they import stuff but only charge you the UK P&P price.

Watched the Cowboys - Bills game on Sky Plus this morning, as JLM says it was the game of the season so far. Jammy, jammy Dallas. Tony Romo-Grossman really got out of jail thanks to Nick Folk. Felt really sorry for Trent Edwards; he made one mistake the whole game, and that was an interception that stopped the Bills going 27-14 up with a couple of minutes left.

Benzhiyi 09-10-2007 02:33 PM

Mack Strong's retired through injury, with immediate effect. Always considered him to be one of the game's elite full backs - he had a key role in Shaun Alexander's career year in 2005. Sad to see him have to quit mid-season.

Chester 09-10-2007 02:42 PM

Agree with JLM, one of the most ridiculous games last night.

Dallas looked like they had swapped Romo for Grossman last night. Some of his interceptions were shocking.

Owens showed himself to be the turd he is at the end as well throwing his toys out of the pram when he couldnt catch for Toffee.

Great game for the neutral, unlucky Buffalo

nookiebear 09-10-2007 03:16 PM

This is very bad news for my Seahawks, with S Alexander falling over fresh air and now losing his best blocker the run game is totaly screwed.

Mack Strong was a great player, he played with a lot of heart and defied many odds being a UDFA signed back in 1993.

Benzhiyi 09-10-2007 04:30 PM

Well, lets just say he is a work in progress. I would say he is getting better and i think he will be a great short yardage guy, but he has a lot to learn if he is going to replace Strong full time.

A 13 year NFL career is pretty much unheard of for anyone who regularly gets hit... and Mack got hit a lot!!! Or should I say delivered the hit.

With Alstott looking like he's done too, it looks like a pair of my generations best fullbacks are done. Although Mack is truely the definition of the position. Alexander owes him a lot... just look at his stats this year...

This stat says it all about the guy... he's lead blocked for 3 different 1,000 yard rushers.

Seriously dodgy tache under that helmet though. However, I am tempted by the Bavarro top, as my #89 no longer fits me.

(I always thought you were a Jets fan anyway Grim?)

Grim Reaper 10-10-2007 06:24 PM

As Calvin Harris sang, 'It was Acceptable in the 80s!!!'

As explained a couple of pages ago, I fell into a pattern of blindly following all the New York teams, rather than messing about picking a different team for each sport.

Saved many an argument at school when you ran the risk of being beaten up for being an NFL/MLB glory hunter (not that it seemed to bother people a few months before when every man and his dog jumped on the Chicago Bears/Refigerator Perry bandwagon) or indeed for supporting a crap team also!

Was rather good in autumn of 1986 when Giants went 9-2; Jets 10-1 and the Mets won the World Series. Jets tailed off thereafter but the Giants did the job!

Talking of McConkey wasn't it him who went mental after an epic run and acrobatic dive for a Touchdown....................only for his teammates to point out that he'd been stopped a yard out!!

A little quiz for you NFL fans

Dallas play New England this week with both teams 5-0

How many times has the NFL ever had matches with both teams 5-0 (or better) ???

(I should just point out that the last time it happened, the Jets were involved) ;-)

Chester 11-10-2007 07:53 PM

5 or 6 I think

Grim Reaper 11-10-2007 07:54 PM

Right guys

I've invested in an internet radio and it has 7760 stations on it. I like the idea of yank ones that talk sport.

First (and only) one I found is WFAN (New York sports one) but am wondering if there are any others out there that would perhaps cover NFL in general.

Tony, you'll be pleased to know that the first one that came up out of the 7760 was one in Miami. (Didn't fancy listening to the phone in with so many suicidal people ringing up ;-) )

Strathclyde Eagle 11-10-2007 11:34 PM

Sorry, not much of an internet radio guy, more of a podcast person meself.

Would guess that a New York based forum might be more help to you here?

Grim Reaper 12-10-2007 01:36 PM

Anyone else?

While we're on the subject Tony, I'll pepper you again with a question. Do you know of any NY forums?

I'll have a look for some today but I know you talk of finheaven and just wondered if you knew of a Jets/Giants one.

Grim Reaper 12-10-2007 01:38 PM

Tony, if you're planning on seeing how far you go in the eliminator, then go for Philly over the Jets

8-0 lifetime under Andy Reid following a bye week and 7-0 in teh franchise's history against the Jets.

Philly the only team NYJ has never beaten.

Was also surprised to hear (and I might have heard this wrong) that there are three teams the NE Pats haven't beaten.

Trying to think who the three might be.

I'd guess towards relatively new NFC teams who they don't play much. Give me a minute and I'll think of some possibilities.

Strathclyde Eagle 12-10-2007 01:57 PM

Washington (older, but they beat the Pats even in their 14-2 season), San Francisco & Minnesota? Possible wild-card of Baltimore (as the Ravens)?

Strathclyde Eagle 14-10-2007 08:28 PM

It's true, Chester.

I don't know what the fascination is with Cleo Lemon. There's a reason he's never been a starter with an NFL team. Bring on the Beck era.

Good grief, penalties took us back to 1st and 30 on our last drive! Somehow we got a TD out of it.

Our weakest link is our secondary, and the Patriots have one of the greatest sets of WRs ever assembled. Next week won't be pretty.

Anyone want to guess the Dolphins-Pats line for next week? Pats by 18 1/2?

Grim Reaper 15-10-2007 01:07 AM

I love theJets and I love the Giants but my favourite player is the one, the only LADAINIAN TOMLINSON.

The guy is unreal.

Has won me money and given me a lot of enjoyment listening to his career this past few years.

Just turned a nasty looking loss into a ncie win with his 4th TD of the day to go with the money he won by rushing for over 95.5 yards shortly after half time.

The guy is solid gold. If the Pats or Colts were to get him they'd go 16-0 for sure!!

Pats by 16....but given the almost weekly shoot outs Miami are involved in this year they might actually cover that in a 41-31 loss like tonight's game.

Grim Reaper 15-10-2007 01:27 AM

Pats scarily impressive tonight.

Dismantling a 5-0 takes some doing.

At least in the last 5-0 v 5-0 clash, the Jets may have lost but at least they held NE to 13

jlmatthews 15-10-2007 03:17 AM

Just home from the game.
Here's a quick pic I took on my cell phone from my seat in the press box.

http://a284.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...16fb696033.jpg

The Dolphins are just bad. The defense is HORRIBLE! I thought Lemon did a nice enough job, but he's nothing special. Ronnie Brown on the other hand, is awesome! Even better in person. I was really impressed. The Browns are a little below a middle of the road team, but with their weak schedule, they might sneak in an 8-8 season and a trip to the playoffs.

After the game we were waiting outside the Dolphins lockerrrom (punter is from Toledo) and we could hear Cameron really giving it to them. Bumped into Taylor and Thomas.... When we walked in several players had their heads down and were just sitting there... hadn't even hit the showers yet.

As for the spread next week... I say 18.

joyce the voice 15-10-2007 04:35 AM

Miami often play the Pats close, and they're bound to get some breaks sooner or later, so I think next week will be reasonably close.
Boy oh boy my Pats are amazing! Spygate will always be a blemish (but I don't see it as more than that), but Belichik is proving every week that he is indeed a genius. Can't wait for the Colts in three weeks time in the dome with their happy-clappy mom and pop fans.

jlmatthews 15-10-2007 04:55 AM

Forgot to mention I bumped into Jim Brown in the press box and talked to him for a bit!

Strathclyde Eagle 15-10-2007 02:19 PM

Again, the Dolphins biggest weakness is the secondary. The Pats' biggest strength (of many) is their haul of wideouts. We're 0-6, they're 6-0. This line is going to be huge.

Add in the hints from Boston media about Zach Thomas being a cheat and I get the feeling they'll want to run up the score. Wouldn't surprise me if they score in the 70s.

Ronnie Brown is still pleasing though. I really liked the play where he spun out of two sets of tacklers and then dived for the first down. He's getting hard yardage with little help from his blockers.

One further prediction, I really think at some point Cameron's going to break out a hook-and-lateral this season. Makes perfect sense to get Ronnie out in the open field and running at some DBs. It also wouldn't surprise me if we started onside kicking earlier in the game - if the defence can't stop anyone anyway what have we got to lose?

Am actually disappointed as a Skins fan the team isn't at least 4&1, maybe even 5&0, which considering the shambles that was last season shows how they have improved

The two defeats have come against good sides when the Skins offense has basically gone AWOL in the second half.

Still, fancy our chances against the Cardinals next week in DC, and before the start of the season, I'd have bitten whole arms off for a 4&2 start :) (if it happens)

Skins defense is awesome this season - Packers held to 250 yards, Detroit 150-odd

Just need the offense to score a few more points and make less mistakes

Thank God for Miami. I'd be suicidal as Jet with the 1-5 start but for them!!

As it is, I just keep convincing myself my happy memories of Leon's 64 yard run v Miami, the awesome thrashing of the Packers and the high scoring win v Detroit were all in fact during the season and that Mangini is still a genius.

Remember Tony, Pats were massive faves and up by 13 with 2 mins to go three seasons ago and you STILL beat them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but Jason Taylor was a beast that night. He just isn't at the same level this season (picking up a bit now, but still a way to go).

Pats - 6-0
Rest of AFC East - 2-16

When's the earliest the Pats can win the division? Week 9?

The earliest I remember a team clinching was the 85 Bears in week 11. No byes back then and the Bears were undefeated at that point.

If all goes their way (eg Dolphins start to win divisional games) Pats can get it wrapped up by week 10 and their bye week.

Anyway... got my sign planned for Wembley:

#54......&.....#99

...THE MIAMI......
£££ MACHINE???

If I was feeling positive, I'd photoshop something up about "The Brown who really runs the UK".

Erm, but I'm not, obviously.

Out to 17 I understand. This line's only going in one direction.

Good job I wasn't planning on wearing my Chris Chambers jersey to Wembley.
