Not happy about that, much prefer a dark chocolate Bounty to a milk chocolate one.

I'm assuming that it's the same thing as we get in Aus, where each meal comes with a recipe and cooking methods.

We'll probably go back to it, once our Adult daughter and partner have moved out whilst waiting for their new gaff to be built.

Nothing Middle class about it here. AuContraire its aimed somewhat at retirees with limited income.

Australians are no longer like what I imagined them to be. :afro:

The whole Bounty thing is messed up here in the US.

Mounds would appear to be the US equivalent to Bounty, but only comes in Dark Chocolate.

Almond Joy comes in Milk or Dark chocolate but has a bloody great Almond or two inside the damn thing.

If you want a classic milk chocolate Bounty you have to get them from specialty import shops, which invariably means they are stale!

Now you got me craving a milk chocolate Bounty... not a dark chocolate fan or nuts in candy (excuse the Americanism) bars.

west country boy 09-02-2023 05:44 PM

Who would of thought that something called Almond Joy contains almonds?

Reorder scams - More annoyed I just discovered this shitty move. Went to reorder my contact lens so logged on clicked the reorder 17.99 a pack, with all the cost-saving thought **** it I will shop around.

Found them for £11.99, but here's the scam, it's the same place that was about to shaft me for full price. When I click the link, my basket is still 30 odd quid with postage, click the basket and the price drops to the offer price.

I had bailed at the point of confirming the order, they were 100% not going to charge me the offer price.

What a shitty way to reward loyalty.

No one of the top two in Google Lenstore. I have checked it just now and the same process.

It's a laziness tax not wanting to enter my prescription every time I order!

I guarantee Melburnians generally speaking are as far removed from the Stereotypical Australian as you can get. I'd guess like a cross between Portland and London only more Left Wing (Pink/Green socalists) with a 40pct+ overseas-born ethnic mix.

Thats the way I see it anyway, not sure how visitors go. Definitely open for comment. I'd say my Melburnian BBS peers would say I'm in the right boat.

Yet 3ks from my gaff. It's Australia but not as you know it. All I'm saying is the Stereotype as seen from O'seas is kinda dying out. More or less situated right opposite Bombay Rock, which featured in "Death In Brunswick" a great early Sam Neill film. Worth looking up PH.

Something probably only BBS members living in the US can relate to...

I do my own taxes using TuboTax software. Completed them on Monday and went to the post office and mailed them Wednesday (State and Federal Tax Returns).

Wednesday evening I'm watching the news and they run a story about the Federal Tax Service (IRS) are advising people not to submit their taxes yet while they figure out if the State Middle Class Tax Refund we got last year should be taxable.

Now is it me, or should a bureaucracy as large as The United States Internal Revenue Service not have figured this out by now? I guess that is a sort of rhetorical question... the word bureaucracy rather gives it away!

As a point of reference you can submit your 2022 Taxes whenever up to April 15th, and as soon as you have gathered all required information, which I had.

I just re-ran the numbers through TurboTax and if I remove the Tax refund it would reduce the payment I made to the IRS by $156.00.

Will be interesting to see how they handle this if in fact they decide it was not taxable... any which way, I suspect it will involve me having to fill out forms or costing me something.

Rather annoying, considering I was trying to be a good citizen and pay my taxes in a timely manner.

A very seedy Benidorm! People keep asking me what Bali is like (I've only ever changed planes there, leaving the airport twice!) But I tell them its probably just like the brochure pictures but close your eyes for the first ten minutes of the taxi ride there

I get that these are two different taxation organisations, but it takes some federal gall to consider taxing a tax refund.

I suppose they are looking to claw back all those covid cheques you received.

Possibly. Looks like they are saying now the refund is definitely not taxable. They shot themselves in the foot by sending out 1099-MISC forms for the refund to everyone which must be reported on your Federal Taxes.

They now have to amend the tax forms to allow you to report it, but enter zero with a box checked that this was a State Tax Relief check.

Again, the annoyance is twofold, as in a) you could submit your tax returns starting Jan 23rd, I suspect many people (including me) have sent theirs in - why are they only sorting this out now?, and b) they don't seem to have any advice for those that have sent their taxes in already with payment of taxes due.

I do not understand how Miriam Margoyles gets airtime anywhere. Ageing, Angry, unfunny, potty-mouthed, Lesbian. Virtual signaling is the only thing I can think of. Like a guilt trip for the media so they feel they are making amends.

She wrote an autobiography last year and the main selling point that came out in it that was she bullied by her now more famous college alumni at the time (Cleese etc) and ever since she has seemed be the darling of the media here.

Delivery drivers.

Ignorant feckwits, largely with only a rudimentary grasp of English, who cannot/will not read simple instructions to ring the correct building complex. I then need explain three times what to do. The instructions clearly say you need to dial '2' then the flat number; just the flat number gets ME in the other building and winds me up, often twice a day.

Occasionally, I regret to say, I resort to, "Read the f*cking sign!". English can be a problem; Profane they understand

Why have they made paying at car parks so bloody difficult these days?

Arrived in Birmingham for a work dinner, using the Snow Hill car park. Can either pay with cash (coins only) or use the RingGo thing.

First point - how many people have £6.20 in coins about their person these days.

Second point - why not have a pay by credit card option, it's hardly a revolutionary technology.

Third point - why are there so many of these bloody payment apps on the go. I have Phone Pay and Pay By Phone already loaded on my phone but now I have to load another one on there.

Fourth point - they have to text you a code to register on the app so you can pay. The text message never arrives.

Fifth point - try calling instead and using the IVR automated line to pay, as advertised at the payment kiosk, only to get a message that it's not working and I have to download the app. Back to square one.

So I end up having to find a cash machine to withdraw a tenner, going to Sainsbury's Local to buy a drink I didn't want, ask for the change in coins and then go back to the car park to ******* pay. All in all took me about 20 minutes to complete a transaction which should have taken seconds.

I don't think you are allowed a 20 minute grace period to pay. We had a similar situation in Newquay a couple of years ago,, it took me forever to register on the app and got a ticket for it. Good luck!

This is definitely rubbing off on children unfortunately. I forget which comedian said it, but you're genuinely pleased when the children will sit down for an hour with you and watch a film or TV series. My daughter used to plough through books when she was a pre-teen, her mobile phone knocked that on the head.[emoji20]

Along similar lines, at a doctors office I go to they have pay stations for the car park (still can pay with credit card thank God), but there is always a guy there from the parking company helping people with the process... strikes me that they are paying the guy to be there doing this, why not just put him in a booth and collect the money and lift the barrier like they used to?

I agree with your car park pain, Bipe...particularly having to have multiple apps for the same function. A lot of my annoyances about modern life seem to be related to navigating solutions that have been created for non-existent problems.

It's a good read though and I can believe that Cleese and his Oxbridge chums were elitist mysogynists who didn't believe women should be in comedy.

yep have experienced this too. Infuriatingly annoying.

Re: Parking and using apps etc.:

I worked on a project for Shell Oil trying to develop a robotic automobile refueling system.

We set up the robot at a couple of real open to the public petrol stations and had the public use it, while soliciting feed-back and comments from the users.

Many people came to the obvious conclusion, that with all the money you have spent developing this, you could pay a 100 people to pump the petrol for you for many years, just like the old days. Or the best one was, train a monkey to fill your tank and pay him peanuts!

Sometimes, just because you can automate something doesn't mean you have to, or it's for the best... See getting into Selhurst Park using a phone app!

Had this at Wolves last season. Luckily we were really early so were able to drive to a shop, but something, get loads of coins as change (which they really resented giving us too for some reason!), then go back to the car park. Pay by credit card at a machine should surely be an option!!

Forgetting passwords then going through all the hoops to re-set them only to find a while later you've forgot them again.

Bloody annoying!

A guy steals 200,000 Cadbury Creme Eggs he is going to jail.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-64640596

For comparison

Mone steals 334,000,000 Cream Eggs - no jail
Zahawi defrauds 9,250,000 Cream Eggs - no jail
Sunak non-Domís 50,000,000 Cream Eggs - no jail
Johnson/Hancock oversee 37,250,000,000 Cream Eggs of PPE fraud - no jail

...

Iím assuming 200,000 is a lorry full - to put it in context

Mone - 1,670 lorries of Cadbury Cream Eggs
Zahawi - 46 lorries
Sunak - 250 lorries
Johnson/Hancock - 186,250 lorries

Probably six of one and half a dozen of the other. Cleese, Chapman and Idle have never come across as particularly engaging and nor has Margolyes.

Learners not allowed on Motorways?

Maz 15-02-2023 11:44 AM

Good answer. But they are allowed to drive on a motorway with an approved instructor.

Something for the things I learnt today thread, but about 5 years ago. We've had a learner in the house in the last year and I still didn't know

Three or four years ago, I think.

Arguably it should be compulsory training but that might be logistically difficult for many.

Yes, I think it should be (although in many respects motorway driving is easier than other driving - everyone going in the same direction; no vulnerable road users etc). An age ago, obviously, but my dad took me out for a motorway practice after I passed my test. We started on the M23, which took away the bit I was then most worried about, ie joining from a slip road.

I still remember the first time i joined one from a slip road, which shows how nerve-wracking I found it

simon 15-02-2023 01:10 PM

I've thought for a while that they could do an online motorway test, a bit like the hazard test they have to do now. 30 minutes on a motorway simulator, testing lane discipline, signalling etc. At the very least it would educate people, which is what appears to be missing now. Could also make all qualified drivers take it too, without a penalty for failing obviously, but I'm sure it could make a difference.

Arriving at my GP's surgery to find a new chart on the wall listing all of the doctors, nurses and receptionists with a little photo, a whimsical summary of their interests and their preferred pronouns. Every single one is a woman and they all preferred "she/her". Thankfully avoided a potentially embarassing incident there.

You should tell them to stop being transphobic, (if I have understood cr's posts correctly).

You are trained on dual carriage roads, so there is no excuse about moving over to the outside lane as soon as appropriate. People are just selfish it is that simple
