He will probably have 3-10 off 12 overs by close of play as well. Blokes a legend!

Looked like Middx bowlers had some home truths delivered at lunch - was no surprise that all 6 wickets were LBW or caught WK/slip.

Middx definitely had the better of the day but not by much, considering the conditions - horribly overcast & windy all day.

The two Richards - Thompson & Gould - were in attendance but I didn’t speak to either. New stand looks decent but difficult to comment as only one small lounge was open due to it not being finished.

Back tomorrow for more of the same (difficult batting conditions & rubbish weather) tomorrow. Play until tea, I expect. Could go either way.

Anyone else there tomorrow?

Going tomorrow (Saturday)

Cummins hit his first ball after Stevo got out for 4 (and got out soon after)

Cracking effort from Stevens that (again).

You'd think he might have a rest after that innings, but opened the bowling too, and has one already!

I think Stevo also had Labuschagne out lbw for 11 on his Glamorgan debut the other week. Must be his bogey man, the tour down under this winter beckons.

Suspect they’ll want half a dozen overs at Middx before lunch. 260 target? Another 10 mins?

greybot 23-05-2021 01:23 PM

Burns 100. Good lad. Surprised we haven't declared now. Should be trying to get a wicket before lunch.

Not watching but looking at the score, I suggest that the wicket may have flattened out ?

greybot 23-05-2021 02:02 PM

We've put them in just before lunch. Our bowlers getting some movement on the ball. Roach could have had a wicket. Let's hope the rain stays away and we get a winner!

Olympian2 27-05-2021 09:54 AM

Off t’Oval again today. Weather looks better although the oppo look tougher, especially as we’ve lost Burns, Pope, Foakes & Roach. Could be a long day but I’ve got a bottle of something cold & fizzy to take the edge off anything underwhelming on-the-field...

Webb 27-05-2021 09:56 AM

Rotten luck for Foakes.

Going again on Saturday. It might actually feel like the cricket season this time!

Just got in from the boy’s Kung Fu & football morning to see if Surrey had made any inroad into the Glocs batting this morning.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice. 113-7, Virdi & Moriarty takin ‘em all.

Mick 30-05-2021 10:23 AM

Yep, went yesterday. Good entertainment, with Jacks getting his first championship wicket too. Somewhat surprising, given his success in T20 last season.

Aki Aki Aki 30-05-2021 12:24 PM

Saqib Mahmood at Lancs looks the real deal. On Sky now, he is quick and can reverse swing at 90mph plus. Needs integrating into the England team with a view to the Ashes this winter.

Aki Aki Aki 30-05-2021 12:25 PM

As does the Lancs leggie Matt Parkinson. Interestingly Bumble had him in his Lancs all time home grown XI this week. High praise indeed.

Olympian2 30-05-2021 03:45 PM

Very professional & comprehensive win for Surrey vs top-of-the-table Glocs. Win the toss, bat once, bat big, let the spinners loose...

Without Burns, Pope, Roy, Foakes and the Currans as well. Will still need to win both remaining games to make the top two.

cappuccinoeagle 05-06-2021 10:07 PM

The other Ollie Robinson has had a good day- 120 opening the batting.

Olympian2 05-06-2021 10:16 PM

Another innings defeat for Glocs today, beaten by Leics. Interesting...

RobertCPFC 06-06-2021 08:45 PM

Kent drew with Northants. We declared overnight despite being behind to try and force the win but Northants batted the day out. We are still without a win this season but I feel it has been a bit better in the last few games. The last two games next month will be about trying to get into 4th and avoid a place in Division Three.

We start T20 with three home game. The first is against Hampshire on Wednesday. I have got high hopes this year.

ANDYEAGLE 08-06-2021 11:02 AM

Anyone know what will happen to Surrey's 3 T20 games starting the week 21st June if the lock down is extended? Will they have to be social distance events like the previous weeks games?

I have tickets for this.
I have also just lost my B+I Lions tickets due to COVID restrictions on the size of the crowd.

I suspect so. I’ve got tix for the SL ODI at the Oval on 1st July & received a mail from Surrey yesterday saying that the game is currently due to go ahead with capacity crowd but that that was dependent on Govt roadmap.

I’ve booked 25 tix for me & mates for the T20 game vs Middx on 25th Jun. I’ve started working out which 5 or 6 I love the most. We’ve all seen Sophie’s Choice, right?

25? No wonder they sold out. Not sure I even talk to that many people these days. So Surrey's most profitable 4 games could take a big kicking:)

LOL. I always arrange one ‘big’ T20 outing per year with family & friends. I think the record was about 48 a couple of years back. It’s often the only time I see some of them but it always nice to just have a catch up. Plus some of them bring a couple of their own mates etc.

Yeah, I bet Richard Gould is sweating a bit on the Govt announcement next week, although these days he’s probably most interested in when Bristol City can get fans back at Ashton Gate...

RobertCPFC 09-06-2021 11:29 PM

For the first time this year Kent won.:lux:

Batting first we started really well but fell away later in the innings ending on 176-6. I thought it was a good score but potentially a bit short.

Hampshire had a decent start in reply before Darren Stevens in his first T20 for Kent took a wicket with his first ball (but was possibly the wrong decision) before later on getting a second that definitely was out. Fred Klaassen had a poor first over but then took four wickets.

Tomorrow evening Middlesex play Surrey at Lord's. It's a 7pm start on Sky once the test match has finished for the day.

Both the Currans & Roy start for Surrey V Middlesex in the 2020 at Lord’s . Plus Gareth Batty is captain.

5-1. I could’ve cashed out for a profit until about 9 or 10 overs of the Middx innings. Good win in the end. Batty is a wily operator & interesting to see Dunn & Overton only bowl two overs between them. Plus Kyle Jamieson to come in....

desperado 10-06-2021 11:40 PM

Kyle Jamieson, even on a short contract, could be a good signing for Surrey.
Anything that reduces the chances of pie thrower Dunn (0-27 in 2 overs) playing in any form of the game in the first team is fine by me

I’m more excited about the fact that Jamieson will be available to play in the 2 CC games vs Hants & Somerset. Can’t wait to see him with a red ball in his hand again.

I was worried that Surrey didn't have enough batsmen, but they seem to be going down the WI route of having everyone in the top-8 able to wallop the ball and not care if it would be a balanced side in first-class or even 50 over cricket.

Dobbo 11-06-2021 10:06 PM

Will be a good side that beat them in T20 this summer if these players remain available.

Indeed. Roy, Jacks, Evans, Smith, Sam Curran, Overton, TC, Jamieson, Clark, Batty, Moriarty. That’s bloody strong. I love that fact that Gareth Batty is still currently only going at 5.5/over at the age of 87...

Am going to 4 of the next 6. I think I’ll stick a fiver on Glammy to win on Monday....

A good start but still 12 games to go. If they can win two out of three of the Oval games this week we will be looking good. Batty and our two young spinners will be the key. Anything can happen in this form of Cricket.

This is going to sound a little selfish & I appreciate it doesn’t do Surrey’s bank balance any good but I rather enjoy socially-distanced, reduced capacity cricket at the Oval. Plenty of room to spread out, easy to get a beer & easy and quick to get in & out.

I’m rather hoping that I get to keep my 2x SL ODI tix as I expect that will be reduced capacity, too.

Come off it I know you missed the kisso Gram. Good night tonight. loads of room. Not too much dopey music and not being frisked on entrance.
And it's 3/3. Bit tighter tonight after a great Roy innings. Still think we are a batsman short. Long way to go yet.
Note their best player by far was the Aussie from RSA.

I received this at 9pm last night from Surrey :

The Club is aware of this evening’s statement from the Prime Minister announcing the delay in the progress of the national Covid-19 road map.

This announcement affects four Vitality Blast games at The Kia Oval as well as the Royal London One Day International between England and Sri Lanka on Thursday July 1st.

The Club are currently consulting with the ECB and will be in touch with all affected ticket holders within the next 48 hours.

Surrey County Cricket Club Members will always receive priority when allocating tickets for matches with limited capacities.

Surrey won all three games convincingly. Fast bowlers are on a hiding to nothing in T20. They're either spot on or get hammered to all sides more often than not.

Yes. But we are waiting to hear on the capacity allocated. Being a county game you would have thought anyone wanting to go will be able to. The 20/20 games will be more interesting allocation wise. Will cost Surrey a lot of money especially as members will be getting priority.

Indeed. It was good to sit in the Lake balcony for the 1st time (Lock balcony - the next level up - was not open yet), have a free Yardbird via my ‘Gould credit’ & watch Will Jacks take Tymal Mills apart, even if it was just for one over.

Madness they stop serving and closed the bars once the abandonment announcement came last night, at least under block 6 of the OCS stand where I was. I went up to get a few more beers and to try stay in the ground to watch the football on the screens, beer was already poured and lined up behind the counter but they weren't selling. I don't understand the club logic sometimes.

On a more serious and sombre note, it's nine years to the day Tom Maynard died. :(

Indeed. It was good to sit in the Lake balcony for the 1st time (Lock balcony - the next level up - was not open yet), have a free Yardbird via my ‘Gould credit’ & watch Will Jacks take Tymal Mills apart, even if it was just for one over.

How does the credit work, I'm still not very clear and can't find any conclusive information anywhere really.

We got some beers at around 6pm on the Monday game this week from a stand near block 15 of the OCS, was asked unprompted for my member card and email address (without any reference to the credit), the beers came and wasn't asked to pay so presumed it was the credit paying (£5.20 x2)

Next round we got, this didn't happen so just paid normally (which dare I say they want you to do). Same last night at two locations.

Is it only at certain bars? Is there any way of telling how much is still on the card? And presumably you have to ask rather than the (agency/temp) staff knowing?

I think it's fair to say that young Archie Lenham was pleased with his catch last night!

The third generation of Sussex Lenhams, playing county cricket at 16 while still at school, fair play to him.

Amazing catch. Never thought he would get near it.

Yeah, I just asked the fella behind the bar & he swiped my Membership card & told me I had £17 left. I’d bought a couple of pints at a previous game. There was some talk of credit going UP after people had bought stuff so I’m not convinced it’s 100% correct! It is only at certain bars - essentially the bars & food outlets that the Oval run.

How much is the credit they gave us?. Not used mine yet. I will for sure though.

I think it depends on the type of Membership you have. Mine was £30 for County Membership.

Yeah, I think their policy is to get everyone out as soon as the game is over. I suspect they pay their agency staff by the hour & want to minimise those overheads.

Absolutely. I was reminded of that this morning, too. What a player he was/would have been.

Well looks like another Oval washout tomorrow. And Friday looks in doubt as well. If we take any notice of the weather forecast only the Somerset game on Wednesday will be played out of the three this week. What a pain.

Mike Douglas 21-06-2021 04:09 PM

Agreed, I had organised tickets for today and Friday. :grrr:

I’ve just bailed (decided not to get the train from Cambridge) but I actually think it’ll go ahead now. The umpires haven’t called it off yet so it can’t be THAT bad & the forecast for the rest of the evening doesn’t actually look that bad…

Well with an hour to kick off it is still raining here. It is forecast to ease but I think it will be too late. I am bailing and I would have bailed Thursday night if I had to come from Cambridge.

Where’s ‘here’ Andy? Beckenham?

I probably would have chanced it tonight if I hadn’t seen just 5 overs last Thursday, after the same journey from Cambridge :p

Yes. Beckenham area. Still drizzling here. Maybe it is different at the Oval. They have just put the stream up and have not cancelled the game. So good luck to anyone who is going.

ps Stream says Game delayed by rain and they are showing a recording.

Glad I bailed….

Bad result from Surrey today.

Essentially a B team playing now because of the international players leaving.

cappuccinoeagle 23-06-2021 07:23 PM

Surrey V Somerset- both Overtons playing.
For Surrey Ben Geddes is a new name to me

Olympian2 23-06-2021 11:06 PM

Another really poor performance tonight. They genuinely batted poorly & fielded poorly. Bowling was patchy - decent from the spinners, woeful from the seamers especially Clark & Dernbach. Rudderless. Let’s hope Jamieson & Pope are back on Friday.

I and a couple of others have got tickets for this. Have you got any idea, how we will be informed, if we can still go to this ?

I received an update from Surrey today on the ODI.

Thank you for your patience whilst we have worked with the government to confirm what capacity crowd, we can welcome to The Kia Oval for the England v Sri Lanka One-Day International on Thursday 1st July 2021.

We can now confirm that we can welcome a 50% capacity crowd for this fixture.

As has been our policy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Surrey County Cricket Club Members will receive priority in attending this match.

This email is to confirm that your ticket, and any guest tickets that you have purchased for the 2021 Royal London One-Day International, are still valid and you are able to attend this fixture. We are looking forward to welcoming you at The Kia Oval next week.

There will be further requirements for those who are attending, such as completing a consent form and proving that you have either received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine (at least 14 days prior to attending the match) or that you have had a NHS negative lateral flow test for COVID-19 (to be taken within 48hrs of attending the match).’

Thanks for the update, but one of our party can't go now and we are apparently getting a refund.

It a shame, because I think all 3 of us, have been double jabbed.

And although a week away, the weather forecast looks very good:(

Well we won't qualify with the current crop. Only Jacks and Evans are 20/20 Batsman. They were way short of runs tonight. You surely don't think we will drop Jade for Jamieson. Our spinners are doing well.

They could stick Jamieson in for Dernbach, Clark and Overton & we’d look stronger…:p

Not seen much rain today. I expect it will wait until I get to the Oval.
