I actually left that Faceache group.

Been on it a good while, but I concluded it was for a certain type of privileged Ex Pat. It seemed happy to allow views that we would consider instantly bannable, despite internal 'rules' to the contrary.

Basically, if you watched your language you could write whatever filth you wished. If you used a sweary word you were banned for bullying.

I made my points over a week or so, and no action. While many roup memebers didn't share their views I felt they share some empathy with the idea of the right 'kind' of immigrant - including those Chileans or South Americans here that have been lucky enough to snare themselves a gringo and have moved instantly through the social classes or come from the classes that support Pinochet.

It depresses me that the worst kind of MAGAS and karens live here and they have a platform to express their world view from here. And it annoys me the numbers that brag that they have made their money from Chile and it is now a busted flush and they are moving on to the next country worth raping.

The final straw was some anti vaxxer that was bragging how he has never got vaccinated and he is laughing as he walks around without a mask on.

I can't be wasting my time with these types.

I changed my car and the insurance premium is less for the new one so they send me a cheque to cover the refund as it its all paid up for the year. One month later the yearly renewal comes in at £100 more! I cancel save £125 going elsewhere and the previous insurers send me an email saying they're sorry to see me go and please let us know the reason for leaving?

Being bombarded with emails on Saturday being told I have been in contact with someone who has tested positive with COVID-19 and must self-isolate. On further reading, I fall into a class that does not need to self-isolate, but I must register and send for a test. I received mail stating that Royal Mail will deliver on Sunday. They didn’t. I receive mails asking why I haven’t done the test. I then receive a mail stating that Royal Mail would be delivering the test Monday. They didn’t. Received a mail informing between 09:41 and 13:41 yesterday , Royal Mail will be delivering my test. They didn’t.

I could riddled with it and be a one man super spreader.

Animated movies which say they are "starring" Hollywood actors. And even worse, when the animated characters sort of are the voiceover actors.

The magic of animation (cartoons!) is in bringing impossible characters to life. If I wanted to watch a movie about a character that looked, sounded and behaved a bit like Seth Whatshisname always looks, sounds and behaves, I would watch a Seth Whatshisname movie. I don't need to see a made up lion in an underwater spaceship mimicking Seth Whatshisname*

Bullshit bingo artists are intensely serious people. Or people that take themselves intensely seriously.

For me, almost the worst kind of regular people that exist.

They will neither see the funny side of such a thing nor appreciate any perceived dig at the bullshit bingo. I would go as far as saying they would be absolutey non-plussed as to why someone would not take the wording of the job advertisment seriously.

They inhabit a very different mindset to most people. You wouldn't find them on the BBS discussing it. You would find them on Linked In, instead.

That all this charade about underage sex, sex trafficking etc. involving Andrew is just a question of how much 'compensation' the victim is going to squeeze out of him for the problem to magically disappear.

A justice system shouldn't just be about that. Considering Epstein went to and died in jail, there should be grounds for public investigation in the USA. It stinks that private settlements can be reached involving rich and famous figures.

Maybe, she deserves the cash. But that is not the point. Other nonces, sex traffikers and the like would be getting serious jail time.

How much will the overall settlement add up to including all lawyer's fees over the time that this has been drawn out. And who ends up paying for that...

I might even extend that to the UK tax payer, who knows how the money gets moved about.

Ultimately, I just don't think money should be the driving force of justice for the victims. Yes, victims compensation, I get that. And there shoud be all kinds of questions raised about what adequately compensates a victim of assault, Hillsborough families, or even Afghan families caught up in military actions.

What is the compensation rate awarded to the victims of Saville, Harris, Glitter, and Hall compared to what is settled pre-trial in, albeit USA, Michael Jackson or this case.

I understand that these are civil cases, but there should be sufficient grounds for public investigation, and the sums involved AND the 'legal' non-disclosure agreements signed amount to a huge pervesion of justice for me. Especially, if those documents can by used by defence lawyers at a later date in a public trial.

That pervesion of justice is as much the fault of the accused and the 'victim', and is even more disgusting when it is families taking the money in lieu of the loss or abuse of a 'loved one'.

The crimes may well have been committed, but it seems to me that the real hurt, distress and pain can be directly assuaged by the amount of $ that can be negotiated.

In any system - that can't be morally correct.

Cruise was probably the best avenue for film financing, which is the primary reason for miscasting in cinema. You take who gets the film made and distributed.

I think I heard that Tom Cruise had something to do with the production and as such picked himself to play the part of Reacher... like you, when after reading many of the books I heard Cruise played the part I was shocked.

Although, to be fair, I'm not sure many people would know that :)

But read a Jack Reacher book and his physical appearance comes up a lot. Just checked the most recent one I read... you had to wait until page 9 until he's described as 6'5" and 250lbs (just shy of 18 stone)

Whoever knew that things change between books and the screen? I've recently started reading the Inspector Morse books - in those, he drives a Lancia, not the vintage jag that was so iconic in the TV series.

the digger 08-10-2021 01:07 PM

And, I'm lead to believe, the literary Jamez Bond would never have a shaken Martini. But "stirred, not shaken" doesn't sound as thrilling.

I guess it depends whether the detail is significant. In the case of Reacher, I think.it is. My bartending friends feel the same about Bond.

What is quite fun is a comment attributed to Colin Dexter that, in his view, Morse “would not have been seen dead in a Jag

I think (but may be wrong) that 'shaken' is consistent with the books, but is the wrong way to prepare a martini as shaking 'ruins' them.

I've never yet had a vodka martini, but I've certainly never seen a gin martini made by shaking.

Really??? I dont think I have read a Sharpe book written after the tv series was made. How did Cornwall manage that? - weren't the books he wrote, post tv prequels or slotted into time gaps available from the original series of books?

Even after he had his head chopped off?

Research suggests you’re correct.

I will add “bartenders who don’t research their spiel properly” to the list of things that annoy me.

He was hung first which may have given him an extra inch or so.

Yep, he was supposed to have been born in London, which got changed to Yorkshire later in the books and he was "brought up" in London.

It bruises the gin, however to say it "ruins" it is slightly off beam. It's down to dilution and personal tastes.

Hence the inverted commas. All a load of pretentious twaddle, if you ask me.

And Yogi had to be at least a foot taller than the real, real one.

People banging on about OCD when they are no more than above average finicky or meticulous.

Agree with that. When you know someone who really has OCD and the energy sapping drain it puts on their lives, it does grate. Throwing it in about a habit like “I’m ocd about wearing my lucky pants to Palace” is fine. It’s the, as you say, banging on lot that are annoying

It's CDO. The letters have to be in alphabetical order.
