Yeh, whatever Peter.

I’m not interested in slagging people off about it, but Blind’s post, and indeed all the other carbon copies, contributed to derailing the very topic they were bemoaning having been derailed.

Personally, I don’t care what people discuss on a given thread. I don’t seek to be ‘better’ or worse than anyone.

Footballers paying £850 for steak covered in gold leaf and £30k for diamonte encrusted toy cars for their children (Wilf included), words fail me.

Why comment then?

And you did make out that you were better in your use of You instead of We.

You shouldn't expect to slag off other posters and not get called up on it.

And now you dismiss it with a 'whatever'...that makes your postings a waste of space. TBH

Just own it.

It doesn’t really; I’m just not interested I arguing with you about it, Peter. I know I’m right and I could care less if it upsets you and your mates.

Why did I comment? Because it’s boring. Blind made the exact same point 20 people made before him. Derailing a thread by endlessly moaning about a thread being derailed.

Happy to own it. Blind was as bad as anyone.

PeterH 16-10-2021 08:01 PM

But you aren't right.

You chose to target perhaps the most apolitical poster on here.

And your targeting was more pointless than all those 20 posters that you criticise.

Crawling up your own arse, doesn't make you any more correct.

I see it as you having wo choices. Owning it or putting me on ignore. I have been here 21 years, I can follow you around like a dtray dog sniffing your arse.

See it how you like. Perhaps I can send you a little badge with 21 on it to make you feel better?

Whether blind is apolitical or not is irrelevant. I never mentioned his politics, and it doesn’t give him immunity from criticism.

Follow me, by all means.

PeterH 16-10-2021 08:14 PM

Can you send me that badge. Make it 22, that will happen by the time it gets here.

Just send it to Peter Pissflaps, Chile. It will find me.

Remember you promised, so I will be calling you on it.

Blind didn't merit any criticism. But it is good to know that you have appointed yourself as the poster to hand it out.

mte103 16-10-2021 08:24 PM

Ducked into this thread, skimmed some kind of argument between people and in trying to skip past it accidentally read "could care less".

"Could care less" doesn't make any sense whatsoever and it's a thing that annoys me.

Whilst it’s a relief to know that you’re the self appointed arbiter of BBS criticism, on this occasion I think the celebrity of 21 years has clouded your judgement.

I think, maybe, Americans mainly say that, I guess with an unspoken meaning of 'I could care less, but I doubt it'.

I couldn't care less is what makes sense, but growing up I think people said I couldn't care a less, which is even stranger.

First time I heard this one of my bosses said something like, "Talk to someone who could care less".

It just sounded wrong, and I though he may have got it wrong, but I started to hear other people say it.

It sort of does my head in, but I believe your interpretation is correct... just seems a very odd way to say it if you ask me. It seems like a sort of double negative.

In Morrisons this evening and overheard a young lady bemoaning to her friend about having to produce I.D. to buy alcohol. 'I go to University, do they think I'm fourteen or something?'.

Firstly it's 18 years and you could easily pass for younger.

Secondly you don't have 'I go to university' stamped on your forehead.

Thirdly you're acting like a fourteen year old.

lastly stop moaning, you'll get older very quickly enjoy being thought of as under 18 for time being.

Yours sincerely an old fogey

The rule in Aus is 18, however, they have chalk written local signs saying if you look 25 you'll still be carded. Which is the way our "responsible serving of alcohol courses" describe at what age people should be asked to show ID.

I was in a place called Nantucket, near Cape Cod last summer and a few of the bars had signs saying, "sorry no one under 25." This was due to nearly all the rich kids spending $250 on near perfect ID's. Doormen and cops alike were fooled by them. Not sure if this is legal, but that's what the bar owners had to resort to.
If I buy any alcohol from my local supermarket I have to first show ID. Annoying at first, and I've had the usual 'common sense ain't common' arguments with them, but eventually you just do it, knowing you can go home and bitch about it on the good old BBS.

I had a transit at LA a few years back. First time in America. Went to an airport bar and ordered an exotic looking bottle of beer. Asked for ID . " Do I look under 18?" . "it's 21 here" "O.K do I look u21?" "Sorry its the law" Shows an ID. Bloke sitting next to me says "Why does he have to show ID for an non alocholic beer ? "

Not sure what I was annoyed about the most.

The defence of Steve Bruce. He’s out of his depth if Newcastle have any ambition and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his payout. He’s not a bad manager but not sure why he’s being made out to be some sort of martyr

Normally I would have sympathy for a manager in Bruce’s position but I’m capable of holding a 20 year grudge so if he wants to move on to bigger and better things (such as Birmingham apparently) then he can’t complain when the same thing happens to him.

My understanding was that Bruce was more frustrated with the environment in which he was working at Palace than initially attracted by the Birmingham offer - i.e. the push factor (away from Palace) was bigger than the pull factor (from Birmingham).

I rated him quite highly as as manager for us, and I do feel sorry for him in the current circumstances. Is he a top top level manager ? Probably not, but he is a reasonable manager who has operated under very difficult circumstances up until now at Newcastle without complaining. For their fans to turn on him in the way have is just symptomatic of their new, and unjust, sense of entitlement. And he's only human, after all - he's managing his hometown club, and yet knows he will get chopped sooner or later - that's a horrible environment to work under. That is why I have sympathy with him.

Those very same thoughts have been crossing my mind for a few weeks. We played some lovely football under him but I can imagine it was difficult working under Simon Jordan especially while he was finding his feet as a chairman.

Not to say that I’d expect Bruce to be as good as a manager like Benitez, but I don’t think matching the previous managers results when you have better players is a big ask. It’s what I’d expect of Vieira this season at bare minimum.

He certainly doesn’t deserve to be compared to Roy.

[emoji16] I couldn't believe my ears when I heard a ******* Christmas radio advert 2 weeks ago! They'll start in August before too long. On the bright side the usual suspects don't appear to have obtained any fireworks yet.

Sick Bucket 18-10-2021 11:58 PM

Dicking around with buffering streams all bloody night when I just want to sit down with a beer after a hard days work and watch the game.

Conceding in the last minute. I was of course stuck for ages on 94.10 corner to Arsenal

...

PeterH 19-10-2021 03:49 AM

I had a 4 hr power cut starting 39 minutes before game time. How about that for timing.

Means I was happier with the draw than most.

We could've found the first ever Brexit advantage if there's some sort of import and supply issues relating to fireworks.

The only part of your comment iI disagree with is that the Newcastle fans sense of entitlement is in anyway new. I think I date it back to the Kevin Keegan era. Lets face it, Since Shearer retired they've been rubbish

There is a story worth telling here....

Unfortunately there is only a few of us left from them days.

Most of the "yoot" have grown up, got careers, got married and had kids...

Panic buying toys. I thought it was just tabloid nonsense but I know people who’ve been filling their houses with plastic shit in case it runs out before Christmas. I understand people being worried about food running out but plastic toys?

Are you implying that the rest of us haven't grown up? (or maybe the opposite - the old age and mental faculties thing?)

Begs the question as to what is so special about 'growing up'....and the cliched come back on the BBS of supposedly being 'grown men'.

All of us have spent most of our lives worrying about ungrown Men (for the most part) not kicking a football very well (for the most part).

Will our last words be..'I am so glad I grew up and took life seriously'...'it really made a fecking difference'.

IMO all 'grown up' serious people tend to be utter c nuts that spend their lives damaging other people.

Edit: Which ties in with your post above I guess!

If I buy any alcohol from my local supermarket I have to first show ID. Annoying at first, and I've had the usual 'common sense ain't common' arguments with them, but eventually you just do it, knowing you can go home and bitch about it on the good old BBS.

Getting a beer in a bottle shop (Off licence) in the Northern Territory is really interesting. Not only do they have a security guard, but they also have police on the door at times. Then when you get to the cashier they ask for your photographic licence ID and record it..... That's what happened to us and everyone in a major supermarket in Alice Springs a couple of years back.

Then on another day same supermarket one of the local indigenous people offered my wife 50 dollars to buy him half a dozen beers. She declined, it's apparently over 5,000 AUD fine if you get caught supplying drinks to people that are banned from drinking up there and potentially a 6 month jail term.

Maybe.

Tends to be my experience.

There isn't a single regular BBSer that would be on my 'broad and absurd generialisation'.

FWIW the people I refer to would look to score a few office political points by complaining to one's boss about a BBSer spending any time whatsoever on the BBS - even having the window open.

I suspect 'rational' flew out of your head more or less the day the pandemic started. I am so good at this shite, I can even timestamp crap like this.

Remember to save your reply for when you are not on the client's dollar.

The only dollar I am ever on - and have been for some 20 years - is my own. I just mention that because it was the last nonsense in your post ; I could have whupped any of the prior paragraphs with my hand tied behind me.
