My boss showing no awareness and little empathy.

More than annoyance...I have gone up the ladder and started the war.

I think I am in win win. She gets the bullet or I move to a campus near the beach house. Worst scenario is I get a decent pay off and more or less retire.

Believe me, that is the optimal ending to the world of work. Really liberating! :p

Yes, I would have liked it in two or three years, but the fragility of life exposed by COV 19 has made me listen to my inner self.

And the virus has opened open the world of online classes even more. Students that would have been 100% anti might now embrace the option.

For me they would = pocket money classes...

Take the pay-off money and start a new career doing online classes as your own business.

This kind of seismic shift only happens once in a blue moon so now is the time to go for it.

The problem I have with it all, it is all just a sham and phoney virtue signally to appear noble when they just want your money.

I have heard some dastardly negatives about these creatures. Some while ago my good self was in 'Earshot' of a disgruntled chap who complained vehemently that he kept being "Stuka-bombed" by a ruddy seagull as he traversed down a road. A local explained to this chap that such behaviour is common when the young are born and parents are protecting them from what they have concluded is danger. Nevertheless, it is not a pleasant experience and the same local informed him that the postman, follicly challenged, had resorted to a cap after initially availing of an umbrella. My daughter when rather young had her ice-cream removed forcibly from her hand on Brighton Pier by these ruddy "Reprobates".

People on work calls who you can clearly hear eating. Have your breakfast before the working day starts, especially as you don’t have to commute now, and show a bit of respect to your colleagues when talking to them.

On the subject of 'Football' what I find galling is referees blowing for an infringement for the merest of contact outside the box with a player plunging to the hallowed turf often in instalments. For example, players feel a couple of fingers on their backs or the slightest of contacts, if at all, and feel compelled to be acquainted with the turf with the referee ever eager to reach for his whistle.Such fouls would NOT result in the award of a penalty had they occurred within the box:veryangry.
Referees should bellow out forcibly "Get up and get on with it" and it is my belief that such a stance would discourage players to behave in such a manner. I can state that I express my annoyance vocally at matches with high-decibel fulmination very much in evidence.:wallbash::wallbash:

When I lived in Minnis Bay in the Kent coast we had a battle between seagulls and the magpies who annually nested in our road. Some days it resembled the skies over Kent in 1940, especially when the gamekeeper who lived opposite us started to open up with flak (taking potshots at the gulls on our roof with his. 22 air rifle)

Dear Maidstoned Eagle

One finds it a challenge to accept that vast swathes of supporters do not get in fits of pique at free kicks being awarded in the circumstances that I have described. It is as "Plain as a pikestaff" that once the 'Premier League' resumes we shall witness fouls being awarded for minimal contact,if at all, and there will be a vesuvian eruption in 'Trolley House'.:wallbash:

A few days ago I could hear a car horn blasting every couple of seconds, and was thinking to myself, some idiot needs to fix that.

Turns out it was my vehicle! Apparently as the keys were in my pocket I had somehow pressed the 'panic' button.

The only 'panic' was me trying to figure out how to stop it!

My wife's eldest son doing his usual and opting out of the tough option and decide he wants to move back here with us. He's only been kicked out or moved out three times before and like a bad penny he's on his way back. I am currently fighting tooth and nail to delay things, but luckily the pandemic and unfinished kitchen are giving me some sway.

I've done that too in America - You're right, the real panic starts when you're trying to figure out how to stop it.

When it happen the first time many years ago, I started to unhook the battery when it dawned on my what had happened and I needed to press the panic button again.

Lol. I know, they don’t mean this for a split second. It’s all about the image.
At Lloyd’s the amount of times people came round the office collecting for one charity or another. Managers encouraged staff to do this as was good for their profile and would be helpful in the appraisal process.

Seemingly at the peak. 50 deaths a day.

But people are getting restless. The lockdown saw more isolation than the UK, with streets empty, no movement between cities etc..

People are starting to have private parties, even organised illegal events. The economic element is hitting hard. There is no social welfare here, well very limited. Thus the bonuses to the poor were a long time ago. Now we are at food parcels stage.

But there is a large % - maybe 20% that are not poor, and not necessarily in the best place financially. Those who are self employed or have a cafe or shop. Those with a bit too much credit on the go. There is little help for them. The government set up schemes involving the banks, and then the banks turn down the loans etc.. The government think they have done their bit.

You start to get antagonism. The govt provide lots of freebies to the poor and near poor. Some of whom don't have a house or pay rent, but drive around in nice cars etc. And those that work to pay taxes etc.. are seeing their businesses going to the wall.

I am fine. But I haven't received a thing from the government here in 16 years. And most of my family haven't either. Whereas 60% of the population have and do.

Maybe I don't need it and should be thankful. But there are times when there is too much month and the end of my money. There are times when banks and other people are calling me up asking for payments I can't quite make.

Bill collectors ring my phone, and scare my wife when I'm not home..

But Chile is neither Brasil or Peru and we have to be thankful for that.

eaglesheart 02-06-2020 09:31 PM

Wow , I didn't realise things were that bad there. I hope it all works out ok for you and your family.

PeterH 02-06-2020 10:26 PM

Nah. They are frustrating and the curve has flattened at 60 deaths a day.

Not sure whether it will rise or decline from here.

Dear PeterH

I of course am reminded of the stellar presence of the 'Earl of Ewhurst' :p whose contributions on the 'Good Ship BBS' as JAMES were lauded by all and sundry. Suffice to say, 'James' and I had vigorous chews at each other, metaphorically speaking, and he couldn't warm to me if I was cremated by his side. Nevertheless I respected the learned lawyer as a savant and a man of erudition.

My good self is also reminded of a chap whom I have the impression was the technical guru of the 'Good ship BBS', working tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver such a hallowed institution. I am thinking that his name is 'Donald Campbell' but I could be 'Way off radar' on this matter.

1. The "Persona" allegation is "Poppycock on stilts".

2. "Imitation" - I am reminded of the old adage "Posterity weaves NO garlands for imitators".

Trolley is the first moniker on here that has me considering using the ignore button.

I am trying to find the wit, or any type of humour in the posts and I find absolutely none.

If the purpose of this persona is simply to irritate the **** out of us, well done. I actually cannot see any other purpose, and it is hard not to believe that the very few cheerleaders on here are actually the scriptwriters.

My dear Exiled Sterling

I pen with the utmost respect to your good self that my 'Raison d'etre' on the 'Good Ship BBS' is not to be a mere jolly japester playing to the gallery. You have suggested that I might exist to be a varmint, an irritating chirrup but in my defence IF I have raised hackles it is certainly not by design. I believe in the distant past on the 'Good Ship BBS' I relayed an experience in Australia when a gruff, boorish chap labelled me "As boring as batsh.t" so IF the multitudes view me in such a fashion the feeling extends beyond this hallowed site.
Finally, I can assure you there are NO "Scriptwriters", my oratory and my opinions rest truly with me.One cannot please ALL of the people ALL of the time. I respect you even though you view my good self in a dim light.

Social distancing and the probability that it's going to lead to a hell of lot of phobic people way beyond the timeline that is required.

Frustrating that the social scene has changed to such an extent during my early retirement years.

Tidy neat hair.

Now either everyone apart from me has a barber/hairdresser in their household or there are hair stylists who are breaking the lockdown rules all over the place.

When I’m out I can’t help but notice I’m the only one with hair that looks like an atomic bomb has just gone off on the top of my head.

And don’t mention clippers...if you saw the mess Mrs Bubbs makes of mowing our lawn you’d know why I’m not letting her anywhere near my hair.

Dear West Country Boy

My good self will divulge (Yet again) a post on the 'Good Ship BBS' from a member whom I have NEVER met :

I would like to add, as I have stated here already a few years back, that I believe that I saw Trolley in the flesh. It was at the pre-season friendly match against Whyteleafe a few years ago.

I saw a chap at the conclusion of the match that I thought looked just like I imagined Trolley to look so I sent Trolley a PM asking if he was at the game etc, and he sent me a reply which stated where he was and what he looked like BEFORE I gave him any description and a placement, this is enough for me to believe he is a real, genuine person.

I rest my case:hi:

Hard to get close enough to upskirt?

Maybe they could take Trolley to Palace Comrades and lure you over there in the process.

My dear chap as you will probably know I am highly unlikely to frequent that particular site.

Thought it would appeal more to you dear fellow

Anyway toodle pip off to do my little bit to keep the country going through this crisis

There seems to be a specific type of person who make a huge scene over social distancing whilst making no effort themselves. The type of person who walks down the middle of the pavement and then comments that the person walking towards them is too close.

I have never 'exchanged the hand of friendship' towards this kind soul and I have no knowledge as to whether this person can be described as a "Missing member". Most certainly I have not witnessed any contributions from this person since I have re-emerged on the 'Good Ship BBS'.
My good self would like to re-iterate that our exchanges are a de-railment and I am of the opinion that the 'Good Ship BBS' will be better served if debate returns to the subject matter. Once again, I "Rest my case" in respect of the risible allegations and have nothing further of substance to add to this matter.:wallbash:

bubbs11 04-06-2020 02:26 PM

Two weeks ago I was walking in a park that had a duck pond. Saw an elderly lady totally break social distancing rules and indignantly go right up to this 5/6 year old boy, tap him on the shoulder and tell him off for feeding bread to the ducks.

The subject matter of this thread is “Things that annoy you”.

Your presence on it confirms the subject matter is relevant.

Now FOAD.

When I’m out I can’t help but notice I’m the only one with hair that looks like an atomic bomb has just gone off on the top of my head.

You've not watched PMQs then? :D

Dear Blind Eagle

From my perspective the parameters of the debate was widened by your good to the extent it wasn't "Flying a straight course" self hence my comments.Obviously to you I am a yawneroo and an unhinged irritant and on the basis that others have expressed similar sentiments, perhaps it is time I consider my position on the 'Good Ship BBS' and disappear into the high-pitched briny.I have not had a 'Warm' welcome since my return with some of the comments despicable and scurrilous. We only have one life and being the 'Human dartboard' is not to be recommended.:wallbash::wallbash:
Finally, if I have offended any kind soul, I apologize without reservation and can assure all and sundry it was purely by accident and not by design. My best wishes and felicitations to ALL.

It would help if "Trolley's" 'users' could agree on which speech marks to use. They are not even near to each other on the keyboard

Not real people, no, although I might be tempted when it comes to smug self-entitled expats. And Al is correct regarding speech marks. As said before, it is embarrassing and should f~ck off.

Funny how we've all fed ducks and the like bread for years, but they didn't die and always come back for more.

And don’t mention clippers...if you saw the mess Mrs Bubbs makes of mowing our lawn you’d know why I’m not letting her anywhere near my hair.

I've been thinking much the same lately. Especially noticeable in women with obviously coloured hair (could have done it themselves I guess), but after 3 or 4 months the hair looks far too manicured to have done it themselves.

I'm pretty sure there is a lot of clandestine hair dressing going on out there.

(In the name of full disclosure, the girl that cuts my hair offered to have me sneak into her salon and get my hair cur... Like a good boy I turned the offer down)

Because they are bird brained and therefore too stupid to know that they are meant to die.

They don't explode on the bread ... they're just a bit junk food full on it.

PeterH 04-06-2020 06:12 PM

Trolley or one of his handlers phoned me on my BBS birthday drinks many moons ago.

It was in the GHT with many fine members there...so long ago I can't remember which of the happy band of BBS regula drinkers were absent. One of those were probably Trolley...
...somewhere between James and MatOv, I imagine.

Aki popped in that evening as well. Good night it was.

It’s a shame as ducks which have a high bread content in their diet, taste pretty rank.

James was a tolerably able Trolley, only undone by posting under the wrong username one evening. The latest manifestation is a poor imitation.

I'd have no problem eating a swan as they're like geese - vicious bastards.
A swan went for me once so I kicked it.
Big mistake.
