A much weakened Surrey side again. Not against new ventures like the 100 but they should be arranged to not affect the County teams. Surrey and the likes of the Yorkies have less chance in this comp than most.

I am a Durham supporter and apart from losing Ben Stokes and Mark Wood to the test side we have also lost three players to the hundred and unfortunately they are all bowlers so we'll have to see how good our reserve bowlers are

I've just had a look at all the county scores and all of the teams seem to be stuffed full of players that I've never heard of so it looks like the 100 is affecting all counties

I would like to see a breakdown of how many players from each county are involved. Surrey have at least 10 I think. Some counties have much less which will give them an advantage in the 50 over. Sure everyone is affected but to what extent? Whinging over Surrey I know:D This comp would have been our best chance of winning something.

Yorkshire skittled in less than 35 over for 165 so Surrey still have a chance of having a good start.

Yeah & I wonder if there is a fairly direct correlation between those Counties least affected by The Hundred & those who would struggle the most (financially) without T20 - Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Northants, Worcestershire, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire. Essex & Hants are outliers to some extent. I’m struggling to analyse these numbers - someone like spike would be able to comment knowledgeably, I’m sure.

Yes the two most affected counties playing each other.

dannyboy1807 22-07-2021 03:40 PM

on that basis Surrey C team have done brilliantly against Yorkshire C team today.

Bowling Yorkshire out for 165, Surrey are currently 45-0 after 11 overs.

I would say Kent have been affected but they have mostly lost batsman to this tournament and I can see why no bowlers got picked Durham got 405-4 in 50 overs.

And we will wonder why we can’t produce a test side that can score more than 300.

The vast majority of 4 day cricket played in April and early May and then September/early October.

How on earth are you supposed to produce test batsmen in those conditions.

Fully expect a whitewash in Australia this winter.

Money talks though and the only way to get franchise cricket in the U.K. like the BBL and IPL is to slightly change the format so that county sides can’t kick off about it.

The hundred is crap, it’s just 20/20 cricket with 20 less balls each innings and weird rules on bowling 10 deliveries in a row. Absolute bollocks

Think I'll go watch the second half in the summer house with a cup of tea. Set up nicely now for a good second half. Who needs the hundred when we've got 30 over cricket to enjoy :p

RobertCPFC 28-07-2021 11:27 PM

A frustrating day in Beckenham with Kent's game against Lancashire abandoned within 15 overs.

Kent started well before Lancashire were getting going but they went off for rain just after 12:00. They were going to resume at 2:30 and play 35 overs and then it rained about a minute before the resumption heavier than it had at any stage so far. It was then abandoned around 3:45. It was slightly frustrating when the sun was out while travelling home but with so much rain already and then further rain during the day it was clearly the only option.

It means we now have our first point. We now have three away games coming up. The next home match is against Hampshire on August 8th also in Beckenham.

ANDYEAGLE 29-07-2021 05:17 PM

Think Essex could be regretting putting Worcester in. Big favs to win this game but struggling now. Small ground though.
On another note it looks like rain yet again at the Oval tomorrow. Grim.

ANDYEAGLE 03-08-2021 12:03 AM

Really good day at the oval. Weather fantastic for a change and that innings from David superb. 11 sixes. Kept Surrey in the comp. Tim David deserves a deal next season on that innings alone. Great stuff.

Does anyone know how the knock out phases operate? It looks as if Surrey need to beat Derbyshire tomorrow to be pretty sure of second place in the group.

As far as I can see that would mean a home quarter final against the 3rd placed team in the opposite group this Saturday.

BUT - there is a Hundred game at the Oval this Saturday. Does this mean

a) the date of the game is switched?
b) it will be played at Guildford?
c) Surrey will lose home advantage?
d) the 100 will be rescheduled to accommodate a county wanting to play at
its home ground?

Only d) really works for me getting to the game and that isn't going to happen so am pretty peeved; would have loved to go on Saturday. Anyone seen any updates?

Did you see that spinner from Warwicks that stops in his run-up like he's left the house and forgotten his car keys or something? Extraordinary.
The quirkier he got, the further David kept depositing him into the Harleyford Road.

I would love a Surrey home fixture to clash with The Hundred. Of course the ECB would let The Hundred take precedence which would be very embarrassing for the SCCC management.

The One Day Cup has been good so far.

It's the final day of the group stage tomorrow. Kent play in Beckenham for the final time this year against Gloucestershire but sadly for us it's about trying to not come last.

Even more confusing having looked at the fixtures, on the BBC website, which shows 2 games on Saturday and then 2 games on the Tuesday (17th) followed by one game on the Thursday (which I thought was the Final !!??).

The winners of the two QFs between 2nd and 3rd placed teams then play the group winners in the SFs on Tuesday with the final at Trent Bridge on Thursday in front of a minimal crowd that the ECB will then use as evidence that people want the hundred rather than the existing set up.

Yeah, I have Lord’s tix for Sunday, too. A Lord’s/Oval double header might well be on the cards.

Surrey will play Glocs on Sunday as Glocs finish 3rd in the other group on 8 points, ahead of Lancashire who finished 4th with 9 points….

HOVE EAGLE 12-08-2021 08:06 PM

This is from the Glamorgan website
Today's narrow defeat to Yorkshire Vikings in the Royal London Cup has secured top spot in Group 2 for the Welsh county and a home semi-final.

Glamorgan will now face the winners of the quarter-final between Surrey and Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens on Monday, 16th August - a day earlier than originally scheduled.

Chief executive, Hugh Morris, said: “With a packed cricket calendar, we have worked closely with the ECB to bring the match forward to guarantee a home semi-final at Sophia Gardens for our members and supporters.

“We are also delighted to confirm members will be able to attend the match free of charge as a thank you from the club for their loyalty and support.

“Under David Harrison and Kiran Carlson, the team has played superbly in the competition, and we hope as many of our members and supporters will be able to cheer on the team as possible on Monday.”

Glamorgan topped Group 2 by net run rate on 10 points, with four wins, two no results and two defeats from their eight matches.

It is the first time the Welsh county have reached the knockout stages of a List A competition since 2013.

Won’t they play Tuesday rather than Monday? The other semi is Tuesday & I can’t see Surrey finishing a game at 6:30pm at the Oval on Sunday & being asked to play in Glamorgan the next morning….

Agreed
The competition has suffered badly because of the hundred
I expect Glamorgan were told to put the fixture back
A lot of Welsh members are very unhappy about the whole thing and slot of people can’t go on Monday cos of work

I personally love the 50 over stuff and am miffed that the hundred has weakened all the sides although I can also accept that the 100/twenty 20 is more likely to get kids interested

Also the schedule is awful for the test team in terms of batsmen with the games being at the start/end of summer, think England are showing the impact this season, not batsmen excelling

Assumed when I first saw this that there must be a hundred game on the Tuesday so the RL Cup would have to move to either Mon or Weds. But no, the problem is with a game happening on Weds meaning the SF can't be held on its scheduled Tues. Why not FFS?

If I ran Surrey I would go all out to win the QF but do a no show on the Monday and forfeit the tie in protest at the tossers that claim to manage the schedule.

I would phone the ECB at 9.30 to say the coach is stuck on the motorway and can they put the start time back to 1pm

Olympian2 12-08-2021 08:50 PM

But maybe the winner of the Surrey/Glocs game would play away at Durham on the Tues rather than Glamorgan on the Monday.

Not sure how to check that, the Glammy website makes no mention of who the oppo might be. Maybe they were too hasty about mentioning the Surrey/Glocs option earlier…

RobertCPFC 12-08-2021 11:38 PM

I had a good day in Beckenham but it was a disappointing performance for Kent today.

We had a steady start with Robinson and Muyeye but then had a collapse in the middle of the innings. After that Stevens got 40 and a few runs from the bowlers but only got 218 and at the time it didn't seem enough. In response Gloucestershire always looked in control and with a well made century for Chris Dent and half century from Graeme van Buuren they won with more than 12 overs left. I think Surrey will win on Sunday but if Gloucestershire play like they did today it will be a close game.

Apart from T20 it has not been a great season for Kent. Without a win in the first stage in the County Championship and only one win in the One Day Cup (not helped by The Hundred). The T20 quarter-final two weeks tomorrow does feel season defining.

RobertCPFC 12-08-2021 11:43 PM

The BBC summary of today's games had the following for the knockout games:

Play-off
Saturday: Essex v Yorkshire
Sunday: Surrey v Gloucestershire

Semi-finals
Monday: Glamorgan v Essex/Yorkshire
Tuesday: Durham v Surrey/Gloucestershire

Final
Next Thursday, 1pm Start at Trent Bridge

There does seem to be quite a lot of confusion about the semi-finals as in some places I have seen it the other way round but what I have posted above seems the most logical.

Yep. went yesterday. Would have been a lot easier, but for a record 8th wicket stand by Glous, and a couple of needless run-outs in the Surrey innings. Still made for a more interesting game, David obviously the stand out performer, but Smith played a really mature skipper's innings.

Disappointing crowd but I suppose it was short notice.

ANDYEAGLE 16-08-2021 11:02 AM

Odds for Durham game evens Durham 4/5 Surrey. Not sure Surrey should be favourites. Will be a tough game up there.

Olympian2 16-08-2021 07:24 PM

Blimey, good win today for Glamorgan, to put them into Thursday’s final.

I was there they battered Essex so if they get either Durham or Surrey it will be a great final
All tickets £10 at Trent bridge so if Surrey get there I expect a good turnout😀

Yeah, can’t decide whether I want Surrey to win or not on Tuesday. Would like to go to Trent Bridge but I’ve kinda committed to a family day out on Thursday…

Maiden Eagle 17-08-2021 07:37 PM

Oh well, that's the end of Surrey in the One Day Cup, with Scott Bloody Borthwick, who hardly scored a run, in his time at the Oval, contributing 71 for Durham, today.

It just had to be, didn't it:veryangry

Prince Phillip 17-08-2021 08:05 PM

Well that was a jolly few days:
  • Didn't lay a glove on Chelsea
  • Test match went the pear-est of pear shapes
  • Oval Invincibles proved they really weren't
  • Nice little Royal London Cup run over
Sport, eh? A relief not to have a vested interest until the weekend.

Feel this big time. Throw in the London Broncos losing again and it has been a testing one lol.

Mike Douglas 18-08-2021 04:56 PM

Stoneman has left Surrey for Middlesex.

ANDYEAGLE 18-08-2021 05:04 PM

So Surrey offered Stoneman a new contract? Bit surprised at that.

Aki Aki Aki 19-08-2021 02:19 PM

Sad to see the domestic 50 over cup final, once the jewell in the crown, relegated to a mid week event at Trent Bridge. ECB and their schedules/priorities should be so proud of themselves, especially as we are current world cup holders. I guess they are looking forward to England being world 'the Hundred' champions.

100% this.

Yep, I’m amazed the ECB haven’t hastily chucked in a ‘The Hundred World Cup’ in September. They’ve completely thrown away the chance for England to be double world champs…

They are a rotten bunch.

Wanted to move back up North apparently. His on days were way too few and far between.

Bit like Dowie then

RobertCPFC 19-08-2021 05:48 PM

Glamorgan have scored 296-9.

I remember going to the final in 2008 and my Mum going to a lot of trouble to get us both tickets because the demand was so high. It feels a long way from that today. It is meant to be the only time it takes place during the week and should be on a Saturday next year.

If you don't have sky but want to watch the run chase it is on the ECB website. The coverage is free but you have to sign in/register.

Apparently Surrey offered him 1 yr but Middx offered 3. Bit of a no-brainer…

Prince Phillip 19-08-2021 10:39 PM

I noted on commentary at the final Hundred group game that Jade Dernbach has also been released by Surrey (He was playing for the London Silly Nannies or whatever they’re called)
The end of an ear hole. One of the last links to that rather peculiar Rory Hamilton-Brown era of Surrey’s history.

RobertCPFC 19-08-2021 11:02 PM

Glamorgan are the One Day Cup winners after beating Durham by 58 runs. Durham were bowled out for 238. That is Glamorgan's first trophy since 2004.

ANDYEAGLE 25-08-2021 11:50 AM

So full County membership for Surrey next season 201 stg by Direct debit with a 15 pound credit on your card. That is really good value especially when you compare it to the crap we put up with at Palace.

But it's a very low bar ;)

CommercialStone 25-08-2021 12:55 PM

Anyone else going to the T20 Quarters at Canterbury on Friday?

ANDYEAGLE 25-08-2021 11:00 PM

Great win for Hants. Just proves how good these low scoring games can be. See Hales fielding is still crap.

Aki Aki Aki 25-08-2021 11:04 PM

That was rather entertaining

NorthPalace23 25-08-2021 11:11 PM

Amazing game!

Great credit to Hampshire.

Nottimghamshire screwed it up so badly. It was like watching my team, Surrey!

Olympian2 25-08-2021 11:12 PM

I’ll be at T20 Finals day - glad to see Hants there, rather than Notts. Didn’t watch it but sounded like a crazy finish.

alf 25-08-2021 11:23 PM

An unbelievable last 45 mins or so. Glad I switched over from the football. Never in a month of Sundays did I think Hants would pull it off even more so when Vince missed the run out in yhe last over. Great viewing.

Just what we need… a 47 year old has been to reinvigorate the club.

Maybe a slight overestimate of his age!- but possibly still the best fielder around. Apparently, will be T20 skipper.

RobertCPFC 27-08-2021 05:19 PM

Kent are facing Warwickshire in last T20 quarter final tonight.

Especially when you consider it includes entry to all home County Championship, Royal London Cup, Vitality Blast and Hu----d matches. You also get 8 free guest vouchers to Championship games and 4 Royal London Cup games. Plus the chance to buy 4 ODI tickets v India and 8 Test tickets v South Africa in 2022.

Unfortunately the 8 home CC games will probably be the usual mix:

2 in April
2 in the second half of September
1 at Guildford
The remaining 3 that do take place during a proper cricket season will presumably clash with my summer holidays.......

But I will renew as ever!

in the SF, it will all depend what bowling attack Sussex can field.

RobertCPFC 27-08-2021 11:19 PM

For the first time in 12 years we are back at Finals Day.

Kent batted first and scored 162-7. It seemed a bit short but I thought it would be just about enough. Warwickshire ended up being bowled out on the last ball for 141. We made hard work of it at times while batting and some wickets were fortunate but in the end had more than enough.

In the semi-final we face Sussex. Hampshire v Somerset is the other game.
