So...

Thought I'd get us rolling.

Everyone has started their practice camps and there are a few preseason games up soon.

Have a nasty feeling about this season for some reason from a Fins perspective.

Not sure Jason Taylor divorcing Zach Thomas's sister is a good way to start either. :(

elliott 02-08-2006 10:59 PM

Having watched most of the practice camp videos, they appear to be getting one quite well with each other, both on and off the field.

Zach is still the uncle to Jason's child and as such, I'd hope that they'd get on. In this day and age, I'd hope for a professional on the field atmosphere anyway.

Here's hoping. Someone said 21/2 to win the division. Optimistic but 10/11/12 wins should be happening

Strathclyde Eagle 02-08-2006 11:16 PM

Tougher schedule this year though. Same goes for Jacksonville who I think will struggle an almighty amount.

elliott 02-08-2006 11:31 PM

Yeh.

The Miami road schedule is pretty harsh. Home schedule (I think) was fairly easy from what I remember

Going to the Giants v Redskins game in October, can't wait. I imagine expectations for the Packers will not be too high this year either?

BLUE BOY 11-08-2006 08:45 PM

Feeling quite confident about the Seahawks for this season. Just hope we can change the trend of the losing superbowl teams!

Strathclyde Eagle 11-08-2006 09:21 PM

Did the Seahawks lose the Super Bowl? I don't think it was mentioned in the off-season. :D

Is anyone running a prediction league like last season?

Strathclyde Eagle 14-08-2006 12:18 AM

I need to get that organised, sorry for the wait with that.

Sparrowman 14-08-2006 09:23 AM

Cool. Cheers for that.

Sky TV Schedules: Thu Sep 7 Miami v Pittsburgh SSX 6pm
Sun Sep 10 Carolina v Atlanta & Jacksonville v Dallas SSX 5.30pm
Sun Sep 17 Miami v Buffalo & New York Jets v New England SSX 6pm
Sun Sep 24 Pittsburgh v Cincinnati & Arizona v St Louis SSX 6pm

Coolio!!!
I like the old AFC East night on the 17th

Sparrowman 17-08-2006 08:12 PM

So gutted I know longer subscribe to sky sports. I miss the NFL more than the football, cricket and rugby.

Benzhiyi 20-08-2006 04:22 AM

Just been watching some of the Patriots vs Cardinals game on ESPN. Liz and I were thinking of going down to see it (you can get a train direct from Boston to Foxborough, which takes you back thirty minutes after the game finishes) but spent too long looking at witchy things in Salem.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is that Patriots have put out a full strength side despite it being pre-season and are looking shit hot. Late in the second half Tom Brady hit 7 out of 7 on an 80+ yard touchdown drive. Watching the game has given me a real urge to do so every week; might be time to invest in a spot of Setanta.

Strath, we need to get some online Madden going fella. ;)

elliott 20-08-2006 04:45 PM

I'm not sure that any game against the Cards should count.

However... they will be better this year

Just stream it from a computer. As long as you have broadband it's good.

Currently watching a baseball game.

Strathclyde Eagle 30-08-2006 08:52 PM

Did like the jokes on that site about how Leinart's already used to not having protection. :D

elliott 31-08-2006 01:48 AM

Ha!

I quite fancy the Cards to do all right this year actually.

Sparrowman 01-09-2006 09:09 PM

Predictions:

AFC
EAST - Miami
NORTH - Cincinnati
SOUTH - Indy
West - Denver

NFC
EAST - Giants
NORTH - Chicago
SOUTH - Atlanta
WEST - Arizona

elliott 02-09-2006 01:51 AM

Hmmm...

I don't rate the Cards (or Miami) that much

nookiebear 02-09-2006 02:00 AM

I'm a Redskins fan, and I think a good season lies ahead. New offensive coach (forget his name) who is meant to be the bizzo will complement an awesome defense.

The Skins did well in the play-offs last season with a shite offense so I'm hopeful of at least reaching the Divisional Championship game this season

elliott 02-09-2006 02:02 AM

112 yards of O (and 3 point out of 27 odd) against Tampa weren't it?

You'll do good this year.

Strathclyde Eagle 02-09-2006 10:09 AM

No way the Fins are winning the AFC East this year. Road schedule is a nightmare (includes Pittsburgh, Indy and New England).

Correct - Skins passed for summat like 27 yards and still won :D

The new Skins Offensive coach is Al Saunders, formerly of the Chiefs - regarded as " one of the most accomplished and innovative offensive minds in all of football"

Some absolutely piss poor teams there.

Just watched Dolphins vs Steelers via Sky Plus. Still screwing over the officials' failure to see Sabin's flag on the TD that put them 21-17 up. Having said that, it was still a decent start to the season, and before the two interceptions Culpepper looked well settled in the aqua green and coral orange.

elliott 09-09-2006 02:43 AM

Aqua and orange = Cool...

I only stayed up for the first half and recorded the rest.

It was quite gutting, but not too unexpected. To be honest, if NS had thrown the flag better, and it got reviewed, they probably would've scored anyway.

Benzhiyi 10-09-2006 12:50 AM

Give it a few years and I'll probably have time to play it more often, once my daughter is taught how to play it. ;)

elliott 11-09-2006 01:15 AM

I've just decided to watch 9ers v Cards.
Why!!!

There's all the other games on.

Chief Brody 12-09-2006 05:04 PM

Yep, saw the Scarlet 'n Gold finally show some signs of better things to come. Two costly fumbles giving the Cards 14 points (although they gave as 7 back! :D ), a poor holding call on Harris negating a 52 yard TD by Antonio Bryant, a poor missed FG by the normally reliable Joe Nedney and we still almost put the game into OT.

Plusses -

Alex Smith finally showing that he should be a starting QB
Frank Gore - 83 yards rushing @ 5.4 and 86 passing and 2 TD's
Antonio Bryant - 4 catches for 112 yards in the 2nd Qtr - should have been 164 and 1 TD!:veryangry
Vernon Davies 32 yard TD beating 3 Cards in doing so.
Signs of an improved pass rush.
Solid offensive line, even after 2 starters left in the 1st half through injury.
Some real fight!

Negs -

2 Costly fumbles.
A secondary that looks dreadful in zone defence.
Too many costly penalties (inc Bryant's taunting call negating a 46 yard completion).
Inexperienced.
Still give up too many big plays defensively.

Ah well............... GO NINERS!
:lux:

Yes, they were heavily critised over their "performance".

Strathclyde Eagle 12-09-2006 09:59 PM

Personally, I don't think it was an accident that the schedule had Seattle down to begin their season in Detroit. It was almost like saying, "You moaned about the Super Bowl that much, let's send you back to Detroit as quickly as possible!"

Read in Peter King's column that the Seattle OL isn't what it was last year. Alexander barely got over 50 yards on Sunday.

elliott 13-09-2006 10:18 AM

Hutchinson is at Vikes now.

Looked good too

Strathclyde Eagle 13-09-2006 01:25 PM

Indeed he did. Shame ESPN didn't know who he was.

Benzhiyi 16-09-2006 01:27 AM

Finally finished watching Vikings vs Redskins on Sky Plus tonight (I tend to watch fifteen segments of games whenever I have the time) and thought it was a cracker. Brad Johnson looked in great nick and the Vikings should have had it wrapped up long before the nailbiting finish. Bottlejob from John Hall on that last gasp field goal though, huh?

elliott 16-09-2006 01:35 AM

Dropped Brad Johnson from one of my fantasy teams.

Replaced with Leftwich, probably a good call!

James 17-09-2006 10:02 PM

Anyone watching the NYG v Eagles game (hit the red button and choose from multichoice)? It's a very exciting finish.

I am very pleased that we have a choice of games this Season. Last year, I often felt that Sky had selected the wrong game.

Strathclyde Eagle 17-09-2006 10:11 PM

Oh, how I hate the Jills. :bash:

Glad to see the Culpepper trade is working well. I think the only thing he's quarterbacked successfully in the last two years was the love boat. :bash: :bash: :bash:

James 17-09-2006 10:28 PM

NYG v Philadelphia now in Overtime. Looks like the Eagles may have thrown thown ths one away.

Entertaining game.

Chief Brody 18-09-2006 01:12 AM

Yessss, did the lambs!!! :lux: :lux: :lux:

72 yrd TD Smith to Bryant & Gore with a 32 yarder!

6 sacks to boot!

Go Niners! :lux:

BLUE BOY 18-09-2006 08:27 PM

Seahawks 2-0 and not out of 1st gear yet!

elliott 19-09-2006 12:54 PM

Is this not the worst week of TV NFL ever?

A shocking Fins Bills game, followed by a one sided bore fest in NE v J.E.T.S, all capped off with a 9-0 game on MNF!!!

Jets v Bills next week isn't a good start though!

And how poor were the fins! Shame!

Chief Brody 19-09-2006 05:42 PM

Quite happy with the Niners entertainment so far! :p

Looks like more to come this w/e when we face the Eagles! Could be a few points against us there. :( Still I hear Jevan Kearse may be out.

For any Niners fans download TVU and click the Fox channel for live games.

Watching it on Sportscenter (ESPN) - TO is deniying suicide attemp, but it so laim. He's spokes girl is saying he has 25 million reasons to live . Is that how much he's getting from Cowboys? If money is the only reason he has to live, he better succeed next time.

Strathclyde Eagle 01-10-2006 10:01 PM

Two bad things this week.
1) I forgot to make my predictions.
2) I had a bad feeling about the Fins trip to Houston. Good grief. :bash:

elliott 02-10-2006 04:19 PM

Well that was embarrasing!...

BLUE BOY 02-10-2006 05:33 PM

2 things, Miami cost me money, and Seattle missed S Alexander big time!

Strathclyde Eagle 02-10-2006 06:19 PM

As Bill Simmons has pointed out, beware the easy two-team teaser on the same day. There's a shock somewhere every week, you've just got to figure out where.

Really disappointed in Culpepper and the OL so far. Elliott, get yourself out there and have a word with Saban, show them how it's done!

Grim Reaper 02-10-2006 09:11 PM

I'm chuffed - Jets 2-2. That's 2 more than I was expecting at this stage!! ;-)

NOt only that but the Jets have an offense!!!

elliott 03-10-2006 11:37 AM

The OL has been horrible. I'm most upset that we didn't absolutely beast over probably the weakest D in the league!

For a team with such a good line coach (forgotten his name now, always the way), the line sure have sucked!

However, I fumbled two snaps on Sunday:rolleyes:
It was raining and the ball had taken on so much water that I couldn't hold it in one hand.

elliott 03-10-2006 11:37 AM

Hudson Houck!

nookiebear 08-10-2006 01:20 PM

What do people think will go on today, then?

I'm hoping my Redskins can go 3-2 today by beating the NY Giants, after starting 0-2. The Al Saunders offense has finally clicked the past two games - big yardage against the might Jags defense last week.

Strathclyde Eagle 08-10-2006 06:30 PM

Chester 09-10-2006 09:11 PM

Having watched lastnights game between the Chargers and the Steelers I have to say that I think Phil Rivers could turn into the next QB star in the league he was great yesterday and this links to my second point where I believe the Chargers will win the superbowl either this year or next. They have fantastic offence and defence and lok a very formidable outfit indeed.

Sad to see Roethlisberger a shadow of his former self at the moment. All his problems have knocked him for 6 and quite simply he is crap at the moment.

The situation in Dallas is also about to kick off big time. TO is about to prove himself to be probably the biggest charlie in all of sport with yet another bit of career suicide. He has not changed one bit and is a complete tool. watch him go to Oakland to join Randy Moss in the graveyard of talented but stupid WR's

Strathclyde Eagle 10-10-2006 11:40 PM

Poor old Kansas getting a shoeing at the Steelers

I'm not sure the much-touted Al Saunders offence is working for the Skins. Washington never do well if Portis isn't getting 100 yards a game. 58 today - poor.

Strathclyde Eagle 16-10-2006 12:17 AM

Saunders' playbook is meant to be something ridiculous like 700 pages. Anyone here want to try remembering the contents of a phone book? Me neither, it sounds OTT.

nookiebear 16-10-2006 12:25 AM

It's all trick plays, end arounds and flea flickers instead of the good old fashioned Skins' running game, with the Hogs offensive line beating the crap out of opponents and the QB only passing if he really had to :)

Last season the Skins offence was shite but the defence was so good, but both are struggling this season

Strathclyde Eagle 16-10-2006 12:51 AM

Lots of complaints about the Dolphins play-calling as well. Too many short passes and long-developing running plays. Had success with Ronnie Brown today but when we've needed big conversions fans watching the game have said the calls have been poor.

Strathclyde Eagle 16-10-2006 12:56 AM
