Temporary traffic lights on College Road since the last months..
On the plus side it looks like they are removing speed humps in Dulwich.. unless they will reinstate them after repairs

I remember testing this at school: put a bowl of water in a microwave and heat until it is just about boiling around the edge... now stick your finger in the water. Because of how the radiation heats, the centre of the bowl will still be cool enough that it won't burn you. Cool, huh?

*NB: If you **** it up and get burnt, not my fault.

That so many of the great London music and theatre venues have disappeared, some to be replaced by inferior buildings. The Donmar and Almeida theatres, Dingwalls, The White Horse in Hampstead, The Astoria, Hammersmith Palais, the Clarendon, the Bull & Gate, Kilburn National, The Rainbow, The Mean Fiddler, The George Robey, Madam Jojo's,The Marquee, The Diorama, The Cricketers, the Windsor Castle, Bagley's. So many. London is poorer for that.

Surely if you're single it's a prime night to go out bag yourself a bit of skirt? Talking to a lad in the office, he's on a blind date tonight and if she's anything less than an 8 out of 10, he'll see who else is floating around.

Johnnieboy 14-02-2018 10:49 AM

I always though valentines day was supposed to be about secret admirers, not the existing couples give me a present/meal/hotel thing it's turned into. People should be sending anonymous cards to single friends to add a bit of excitement to their day. Oh, and two or more to their partner if they have one to see if they fess up... ;)

pallet 14-02-2018 11:03 AM

No just like everything else Valentines Day has now been hi jacked by the money making machine, helped along by facebook etc people all trying to out do each other and have perfect lives. (Not too bitter am I?)

Tony Montana 14-02-2018 11:08 AM

To be fair, valentines day is probably outdated in it's concept, men buying roses for the woman. Being expected to organise/pay for dinner. Maybe in this era of equality, it should be my wife running me a bath, treating me to dinner and pestering me for sex?

elgin eagle 14-02-2018 11:14 AM

I agree. But who funds BBC Africa? The BBC is either advertiser funded or its not. UKTV (Dave, UKGold etc) is apparently BBC and they have adverts.

Scrap the license.

UKTV is part BBC-owned. And the deal was done by BBC Enterptises, whose mission is precisely to realise the value of BBC assets, so as to relieve the pressure on the licence (note spelling!) fee. They are therefore saving all of us money.

A bit ironic therefore that they should be used as an argument to abolish the fee.

No, it's a heart-warming piece of flowery prose meant to explain to children where pets go after they die. It's digital, and usually presented on a backdrop image of a bridge and a rainbow. It's the sort of crap people post on Facebook.

The version I read (I google imaged it) had an apostrophe in the possessive form of "its", which was quite annoying.

Absolutely yes!

The women in our office are always going on about this, whenever they are ill they come in and moan like hell for a day before dropping to deaths door and being unable to come in for the next 2 (maximum before back to work interviews kick in!) yet the blokes in the office always seems to struggle in and never take a day off for colds.

Yet the second we make a comment about feeling rough or having a cold it's Manflu and we're acting like babies :wallbash:

Absolutely yes!

The women in our office are always going on about this, whenever they are ill they come in and moan like hell for a day before dropping to deaths door and being unable to come in for the next 2 (maximum before back to work interviews kick in!) yet the blokes in the office always seems to struggle in and never take a day off for colds.

Yet the second we make a comment about feeling rough or having a cold it's Manflu and we're acting like babies :wallbash:

A lady at my work place the other day had to leave before the end of her shift (that had to be covered by someone else) because her adult daughter's dog was having seizures.

My question for the BBS, in the interest ofequality is this - would this fly if a man used this tenuous reason on compassionate grounds, or would he be laughed at? Are there any male members of the BBS who would (or have) be so bold as to use such an excuse to leave work? I feel it's also a problem for male bosses, who fear being labelled uncaring bastards.

If it was my dog, then I'd do what I had to.

But someone in my family? GTFO. You bought the stupid creature, you deal with it.

It's also why I no longer have pets :D

Maybe the daughter doesn’t drive and the mother is the best person to help?

I don’t have a big problem with this scenario, though would lose a bit of sympathy if it was a regular occurrence.

It would also be an appropriate gesture if the person who left early either worked longer on another day to make up for it, or covered a shift for the person who had to work longer to cover for their absence.

A bit of give and take at work is wise, in my experience. Whether the person is a man or woman is irrelevant.

Microsoft Word (specifically the formatting logic)

Probably the shittiest piece of unfathomable software ever written.
