OT.

Randle El caught a ricochet and was then tackled at about the four.

jlmatthews 09-09-2007 10:00 PM

Holy Shit!!

jlmatthews 09-09-2007 10:01 PM

USA v. Brazil starting now if you don't want to watch OT ;)

Strathclyde Eagle 09-09-2007 10:01 PM

Jason, feel free to wish some ill on Randle El. He went to IU too, you know. ;)

Strathclyde Eagle 09-09-2007 10:02 PM

Sorry, that's Rantwaan Andle-El if you're Dan Dierdorf.

Strathclyde Eagle 09-09-2007 10:12 PM

You think they'd still want it to be a bit closer?

Can't believe we didn't stack the box and make Campbell try and beat us on 3rd and 4.

elliott 09-09-2007 10:13 PM

Elliott is really pleased about the NFL OT rules. I apreciate it's a slightly less valid point, given the impotence of both offences, but they've lost on the toss of the coin.

Strathclyde Eagle 09-09-2007 10:14 PM

No, we're going to lose because we've not stopped them running the entire second half.

Gents, Sunday was sensational, despite defeat. I've got loads of pics and loads to write about but I'm too knackered to do it right now. Really enjoyed reading back through the thread and going through your posts, especially those nerve-wracking last two minutes. I did indeed get my money's worth but I was in pieces at the same time!

Have a couple of teaser shots. More later...

Frye traded to the seahawks. Talk about a bizarre start to the season

Strathclyde Eagle 11-09-2007 09:49 PM

Even more envious having seen a few pics!

Very sad about Kevin Everett. The weird thing is this story didn't seem to be on the radar yesterday (with the exception of Peter King's column), now it appears to be life threatening.

Would quite like to see the last second Denver FG. All done without a timeout as time expired apparently.

I don't know what the stats are but on ethat's stuck in my head from 20 years ago is that of the first 122 OTs, 62 were won by the team winning the toss and 60 by the coin toss losers.

If that pattern has continued all these years then obviously there isn't an advantage to winning the toss.

Grim Reaper 12-09-2007 08:26 AM

It seems the 50% ratio is still intact according to this article from 5 years ago. Interesting that I've learnt there is even a debate about the OT system, initially prompted by your post.

Always thought that it's worked well enough, myself.

Did everyone make it through Week 1 of the Survival Game? Seattle made me sweat for a bit but listening to the game in the 2nd half my suspicions about the Tampa offense were correct - they still don't have one.

I've forgotten the link to make my Week 2 pick!!!

Reading between the lines here it seems that the London game has been such a success already they may well repeat it next year And the BBC having signed a deal will surely help.

One thing I've learnt with these things is there's no need to be too clever - just take the obvious picks.

Strathclyde Eagle 15-09-2007 12:58 AM

Have stuck with the Steelers as my survival pick, although I'm slightly concerned that the Jills will be up for this one for Everett. I'd still sooner take a big favourite at home for this.

Grim Reaper 16-09-2007 10:47 PM

Colts and Pittsburgh both win

That's me and you through, Tony.

Anyone else???

Grim Reaper 16-09-2007 10:48 PM

Don't care who wins - just need Dallas and Miami to serve up over 41 points.

3-3 after 1 quarter isn't exactly on a Cleveland-Cincy pace!!!

Benzhiyi 16-09-2007 11:30 PM

Fins sloppy at the moment. Green needing two attemps to spike the ball was ridiculous.

It's worse than sloppy Ben, it's amateurish. Since when did Zach Thomas become our only dependable tackler?

And I wish the fans in Florida would stop complaining about missing a home game due to the game at Wembley. That's the only way the game could have any kind of advantage for us, otherwise Dolphin Stadium would be full of Giants fans.

Think I might pass on the second half to prevent myself from breaking something.

Pats looking solid. Phillip Rivers showing that he's there for nothing more than relying on LT to open up the passing game...

Chester 17-09-2007 04:40 AM

I liked Rivers last year. This year he has been a duffer

jlmatthews 17-09-2007 05:03 AM

I've never likes Rivers because he cried and whined about playing time when Brees was in front of him. Brees got hurt and Rivers is getting his chance now. I can't help but feel that Brees should be leading SD to a Super Bowl.

Del Martian 17-09-2007 06:22 AM

Jason,

I know you're a Purdue man so Brees in seen in a "different light" but it was Brees who cried when Rivers was drafted ( after Brees sucked the big one for a season and a half 2002/2003) and openly suggested the bolts draft Robert Gallery.
Rivers was a model understudy for 2 years and there was never even the suggestion of whining about playing time. I like both QB's and I think that each of them is with the right team.
Chargers look like they need a month to find their rhythm at the present

Grim Reaper 17-09-2007 09:18 AM

No shame in losing to NE.

The Chargers will back soon

Grim Reaper 17-09-2007 09:19 AM

The big question of Week 3 is who will win the Loserbowl?

Jets or Miami?????

Already realise that in the scheme of things the Jets will be crashing this year. Already looking forward to the play-off-reacing 2008!! ;-)

The only thing I would add to that is that Rivers hurt himself with his rookie holdout. Had he not done that the starter's job might have been his to lose before Brees had a great preseason that year.

Agree that Rivers was an exemplary backup for two years. Maybe he gives Aaron Rodgers hope?

Re the Chargers: I think they'll be fine now (bar the fact that Turner is a dreadful HC). I think all their recent chat, plus the camera drama were massive motivation for the Patriots last night.

No way we're winning that game. We won't win until the Deportation Bowl battle of two 0-7 teams at Wembley.

Two game tickets - £100.
Two return flights and an overnight hotel, £170.
The chance to hear 85000+ people sing, "You don't know what you're doing" and "Are you Wannstedt in disguise?" PRICELESS.

There are some things money can't buy. For my Dolphins-Giants tickets I used Mastercard. :bash:

Del Martian 18-09-2007 07:07 AM

Tony,

Very astute observations.
Have a great time at Wembley. Looks like the Giants won't be too much of a hurdle!
