I was surprised how many teams have only played one International Game since it began. That includes England, Germany, Mexico.

Ravens, Bills, Panthers, Browns, Cowboys, Packers, Colts, Eagles, Steelers, Titans and Washington.

Green Bay were the last team to do it last year but, Steelers in 2013, Cowboys in 2014 and the Bills and Lions in 2015 are long waits.

CP-RJW 22-07-2023 12:12 PM

That Quarterback documentary is really good, and on British Netflix

With the preseason now underway (your last chance to see a third stringer play a snap) I have reactivated the BBS Spread Pickums.

Anyone is welcome to join. All you have to do is pick which team will beat the spread (i.e a win by more than, or a loss by less than, the advertised spread) for each game. We play the whole regular season.

Just join our league to play (you will have to sign up for an account). Follow this link and select join a group: our game number is 14763 and our password is the nickname of Crystal Palace with a capital first letter.

Come on all you armchair experts - prove you are not just hot air.

(Games start on Thursday. You can still sign up after then but your predictions will be short for week 1.)

9ers off to a good start

CT_Palace 10-09-2023 10:35 PM

Less than 5 mins into the Raiders' game and I hear "and Garoppolo is hurt"

I shouldn't laugh.

EDIT tbf he misses one play, comes back in and throws a TD

greybot 10-09-2023 10:41 PM

They played Don't look back in anger at the end of the 49ers Steelers game. Bit random!

Almost as random as my team scoring more points as 49ers did on the road tonight!

Go Jags :lux:

CT_Palace 10-09-2023 10:44 PM

The 9ers D was as huge as ever. Purdy had a good 1st half but was very average in the 2nd.

My one big criticism of Jimmy Garoppolo is that he doesn't have a brilliant mafia style nickname.

Well, aside of him not being very good.

Detroit's three year plan looking like it's paying off. I'm doing the thing that I always do where I hate the fact that I dated a couple of 'proper' Boston girls in my younger days (and cumulatively spent at least three years in the city on and off) and am tethered to the Pats. I appreciate that I've been lucky for most of it!

(I drew the line at the Bruins. Lemieux was too much of a draw in the 90s for me to fall for any other team.)

CT_Palace 11-09-2023 03:33 AM

Being lumbered with the Pats can't really be called unlucky!

Personally I've followed the 9ers since the C4 days back in the 80's. And my first spell living in the US was in SF during the 90's. Been a long time since the 9ers tasted Super Bowl success, but you stick with who you support, right?

CT_Palace 11-09-2023 03:40 AM

watching the Cowboys v Giants. My god you can't have asked for a more disastrous start to the new season for the Giants. The 1st half has been a disaster.

Absolutely - my first Red Sox game was well before the curse was lifted and it was quite nice being smug for a bit!

Not so smug now, mind

CP-RJW 14-09-2023 07:38 PM

Rodgers out for the season.

Shame for him and the Jets, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t laugh when I saw that headline.

Me too. It was partly due to a Clive James documentary filmed at their training camp and featuring Bubba Paris as his guide. It was a rare, for those times, open all areas piece and it hooked me. Added to which I visited San Fran Cisco in 1981 on a Club football tour. Shortly after, and gotta say it helped, the 49ers started winning, regularly, and were as talented a side as I can remember. After which I've got used to the other side as well!

I chose the Vikings because I liked the purple and gold, Adrian Peterson and I found their team history to be a hilarious dark comedy. 7th best all time win percentage but no superbowls, it’s absurd.

greybot 17-09-2023 11:46 PM

Watched Jags v Chiefs. Thought we did well. Just came up a bit short on offence. Nice to see how far we are from a top side. Think we'll have a decent season.

CT_Palace 18-09-2023 02:48 AM

Difficult game for the 9ers today, but ultimately success over the Rams.

Playing on the road at the Rams is a bit of a joke - I reckon the home crowd was the minority. At best it was 50/50.

Good enough reasons of any.

For me it was the first game I saw - Cowboys v 49ers. I chose the 9ers for that game as I didn't want to support a team that was from a city I only knew due to a glitzy soap opera and a character called JR. :D
Stuck with them ever since.

Same for most sporting events in LA. Been to an Angels v Yankees game and more New Yorkers than Angels fans, same when a Boston team is in town. Went to a Clippers v Celtics game… predominately a green crowd.

Clearly shows what a fickle bunch LAers are for their sports teams. All those "away" supporters can only be buying their tickets from the local concession (season ticket) holders who prefer a fast buck to supporting their team.

Nine players in their first year of eligibility are among the list of 173 Modern-Era Nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

Those making the list for consideration for the first time include wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Jordy Nelson, tight end Antonio Gates, running back Jamaal Charles, offensive linemen T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton and Max Unger, and defensive linemen Haloti Ngata and Julius Peppers.
Of that list, I think it is clear that Peppers and Gates are in a no-doubter tier of their own and I think the others should try again next year.

CT_Palace 22-09-2023 01:07 PM

9ers with a nice win last night. 3-0 is a good start. We're looking good this year!

love watching McCaffrey and Kittle fight for every yard.

Latvian Eagle 24-09-2023 09:59 PM

Andy Dalton starts for Carolina tonight, Bryce Young missed practice all week with an ankle injury.

EagleSE24 24-09-2023 11:51 PM

70 points for the dolphins against the Broncos!

What’s going on with Justin Fields by the way? Is he just not very good, playing in a poor team, or both?

CT_Palace 24-09-2023 11:58 PM

Couldn't have happened to a pair of more dislikable guys: Payton and Wilson
:D :D :D

CT_Palace 02-10-2023 02:27 AM

9ers 4-0

McCaffrey is on a roll.

Dingle 02-10-2023 02:39 AM

Brock Purdy is legit. Im sure the 49ers never planned for him to be a starting qb for them when they drafted him but he's made the step up without skipping a beat. Genuine superbowl contenders

CT_Palace 02-10-2023 05:20 AM

big test next week v Cowboys.

CT_Palace 09-10-2023 03:17 AM

what a play for the 2nd TD !!!

Even though the 9ers defense have been excellent, it's a very tight game.

CT_Palace 09-10-2023 05:10 AM

A thoroughly enjoyable night's football :lux:

If this 9ers unit can stay injury free they will have a great chance.
Every area tonight was excellent, defense, offense and special teams.

Glad you enjoyed the game. SF were head and shoulders above Dallas. As a Dallas fan for 35+ years, I swore my way through a recording of the game this morning.
Dak is an absolute joke whilst , Brock Purdy shows him how to be a top QB on $850k v Daks $42m
Nothing will change whilst the Jones' clowns still own the club.
Hope the 49ers get to the SB at the expense of Philly.

I think the Cowboys are better than they showed last night. The current 9ers defense is a nightmare to play against at the best of times but with Prescott still trying to improve the the much quicker drop and pass techniques Mike McCarthy is trying to get them to play, the plan fell apart.

I came to LA in late 1981, and The Raiders moved to LA for that coming season. Went to a few games at the LA Coliseum to see them, and basically became a fan of theirs. They went on to win the Superbowl as you say...

Being a Palace fan, this just didn't seem right. I had no concept of "supporting" a team that won cups!

I guess in pursuing years, they have slipped back to Palace like levels of mediocrity! Prior to my affiliation with them in 1981, they were the winningest sports franchise in history (around .750) and had never lost on Monday night football... I soon put the mockers on all that!

3 key injuries today and the 9ers struggle.

Having a good game so far tonight.

9ers look off..... again

CT_Palace 24-10-2023 04:03 AM

Well, 9ers no way are getting anything from this game.
Big plays going against them by very fine margins, marginal ref calls going against them. It's just not happening. Well played Vikes.

Vikes to avoid a 0-4 loss record at home to start the season.

CT_Palace 30-10-2023 02:53 AM

Wheels well and truly fallen off in Santa Clara.
Ah well.

Dingle 03-11-2023 09:42 PM

Dolphins Chiefs as a Sunday afternoon game should be a brilliant way to warm up to red zone. Kinda fancy the dolphins but should be a close game either way

tsunamiman 06-11-2023 01:03 AM

Eagles constantly having late games is gonna kill my Monday productivity.

greybot 06-11-2023 09:31 AM

I watched Dolphins Chiefs. Was a pretty exciting second half until the Dolphins of the last 20 years decided to resurface 2 minutes before the end. Shame as they had been the better team for the most part and was hoping for overtime. Mahomes is just so clinical the chiefs don't need to be on top all game to get it done.

CT_Palace 12-11-2023 10:30 PM

Injured players back, 9ers back.

EagleSE24 19-11-2023 09:57 PM

Bears looking good for the no. 1 pick on the draft next year with the Panthers’ current record. Still hoping Justin Fields can be the WB everyone thought he could be, but still not sure.

EagleSE24 19-11-2023 10:48 PM

God damn the Bears are shite. 12 points up with 4mins to play.

CT_Palace 24-11-2023 03:25 AM

Tripod 10 24-11-2023 12:03 PM

Running out of superlatives for Jalen Hurts.
Unwavering self-belief he can get the win from any deficit.
Defence has been great - keep putting him back out there for another drive.

hughff 29-11-2023 12:53 AM

I felt that Hurts was railroaded a bit at Bama and was actually a better prospect than he was given credit for as a result. However, his on-going dominance at the Eagles is more than I expected.

CT_Palace 03-12-2023 10:42 PM

Not got much hope for a 9ers win today.
This game might be NFC No1 v No2 but I reckon the quality gap is too big for the 9ers.

And the 1Q showing exactly that. JH manages to avoid the best defense in the league every play so far.

2Q waaaaaaaay better :lux:

CT_Palace 04-12-2023 12:58 AM

Wow!!!

Big big big ... huuuuuge game for the 9ers.

kayjay 04-12-2023 01:26 AM

Deebo turned it on after 1st quarter

CT_Palace 04-12-2023 01:50 AM

Deebo was a monster. Purdy steady as a rock. Defensive secondary was best I've seen them play.

JH is so slippery, the 9ers front line had him out of the pocket almost every play yet he is so good at avoiding the tackle and placing a pass.

Nevertheless, that result was huge for the 9ers.
Am I beginning to believe.... well, maybe :D
