ESPN draft grades.

The Eagles' story of the draft was how we turned a second round pick into five picks and a pick in 2011.

Quote:

Well, the Eagles put on an absolute clinic, trading down time and time again, accumulating an extraordinary number of picks stemming from the 55th overall pick.

- First they traded with Dallas. For the 55th pick, they received 2 picks from Dallas - the 59th and 125th overall picks. The 125th overall pick eventually became Clay Harbor.

- They then flipped the 59th overall pick for 3 picks (a 3 and two 5's) from Cleveland, the 71st, 134th, and 146th overall picks. The 134th overall pick eventually became Ricky Sapp. More on the 71st and 146th picks in a minute.

- With the 71st pick they acquired from Cleveland they traded back again, this time with Green Bay, receiving the 86th and 122nd pick. The 86th overall pick became Daniel Te'o Neshaim. The 122nd pick became Mike Kafka.

- With the 146th overall pick the Eagles received in the Cleveland trade, they traded back yet again, with San Diego, receiving the 159th overall pick, and a 5th rounder in 2011. The 159th overall pick would become Riley Cooper.

That, my friends, is the definition of "putting on a clinic." One late 2 yielded 5 players and a pick in 2011. Simply amazing. This of course won't be the story of the 2010 draft, but it should be.

So, if you want to nitpick this player or that player, and foolishly throw out some mediocre draft grade because "Player X was a reach," or "We didn't draft X position early enough," I urge you to first take a deep breath, look at this utter mastery of how to flat out control the NFL draft, and reconsider.

I applaud Andy Reid and Howie Roseman. This was a work of art.

We turned a 5th round pick into a 2nd rounder next year, using 3 trades.

We started the weekend with: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 6th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th.

We ended the weekend with: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th. And we picked up a 2nd rounder for next year.

We basically traded a 6th and a 7th for a 2010 3rd, 2010 5th and 2011 2nd.

What a surprise, Thr Dallas Star gives us a C.

Rob Rang gives his thoughts.

I think the Seahawks had the best weekend overall. Picked up 3 upgrades in Trades and then selected some quality players. If Whitehurst works out, they'll win the NFC West easily.

Some of the spectators along the sidelines drew more attention than the players on the field.

On one side of the field was soccer star David Beckham, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and New England wide receiver Wes Welker.

Brady spent part of the game throwing passes to Beckham's young sons.

On the other side of the field was Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice.

The reason for Rice's attendance was more understandable as his son, Jerry Rice Jr., is a redshirt freshman receiver for the Bruins.

Rice caught one pass for six yards, which set up a 52-yard field goal by Forbath.

While i agree the Seahawks had a great draft, i refuse to get carried away. The Seahawks had many holes to fill and i dont think one weekends draft will solve all it's problems. I think they still need more help on the O Line and also the D line.

Two QBs in the draft and we're looking to push them through to challenge Matt Moore sooner rather than later. Really pleased with it to be honest. Matt Moore looked good last year. Still have Hunter Cantwell, plus the rookies. :p

pauldrulez 25-04-2010 10:35 PM

Well, 3 QBs really. But I think you're converting Armanti Edwards to WR aren't you?

Latvian Eagle 25-04-2010 10:37 PM

Not sure Paul, but I just briefly read a piece on NFL.com and it only spoke about Clausen and Pike, so you could be right!

pauldrulez 25-04-2010 10:50 PM

I like Pike. He looked good in the brief bits that I saw of Cincinnati.

Edwards is an athlete.

And Clausen could be great, could be a bust. Gruden destroyed him in his QB Camp on ESPN.

Swanny32 26-04-2010 12:24 AM

Am I the only one hoping that Tebow is the starter by the time the Broncos get over here? Would like to see him play.

zonin2000 26-04-2010 01:23 AM

So we acquired a 6'3" wide receiver who is a RZ threat because of his height. Which got me thinking, why don't teams sign 7"+ players (with no basketball ability) and use them as RZ WRs?
