Well, as a non-neutral, it was still a great game. I echo pretty much everything Joyce said. At the "end" of the game, wasn't it the Giants who ran to the field first? Bill went on and shook hands and most people on the pitch didn't even realise there was a second left. I didn't realise it was such a big deal... besides, I turned off after the game anyway so didn't see all the post-match stuff.

Well done NY. It shows, again, that defence can win a Superbowl. I'd have given the MVP to the front line on D. Not just the starting 4, the whole front line.

Great game for which I stayed awake for .. you just couldn't doze off during that! Fantastic performance by the Giants, totally in the Pats faces for most of it. Always had a feeling that the Pats would step up a gear but they clearly couldn't find it. What an amazing catch to set up the winning drive though ....

A lot of discussion on this thread about who won the game for the Giants .. but at the end of the day it's a team game and it's always the case that the QB gets the recognition, it's the glory position just like a goal scorer is in football I guess ...

Thoroughly enjoyed it though and congrats to the Giants for proving the bookies and doubters wrong. Amzing season though by the Pats so congrats to them as well but that may taste a little sour this morning ....

At least I can say we lost to the winners ..... :D

Roll on next season ... :p

Plus it's very funny reading posts by BBSers who clearly have only watched the SuperBowl and nothing else of the season, or NFL before ... Maybe that is because it was on BBC? ;) :D

saxoneagle 04-02-2008 02:00 PM

Roll on the draft and I hope we keep the top pick we have just to annoy the f*ck out of people who might want it... :D

A linebacker under 30 with pace would be nice this summer, please Bill.

jazman 04-02-2008 02:09 PM

I see that the draft is at the end of April which this year the NFL will release their new logo .....

Edenbridge Eagle In Exile 04-02-2008 02:13 PM

A bad bad day indeed - I hate the Giants :grrr:

They used to employ that c*nt Terrell Owens, I could never support them. They did gain a bit of my respect though when they booted the arrogant w*nker out.

I know what you mean, but I think he reached his level in the end....at the Cowgirls......I hate them too:grrr:

BTW as my Bro is a Pats fan I was sad they did not make it 19-0 :sob:

The new Logo has already been "shown off" anyway. Slightly different font for the NFL and only 8 stars instead of the 25 on the original!

davematt 04-02-2008 02:26 PM

BTW guys, I want a new profile pic, and want to create one with the Palace, 49ers, San Jose Sharks and San Fran Giants Logo's. Would anyone be kind enough to help create it for me?

Strathclyde Eagle 04-02-2008 02:44 PM

I've done a few but I refuse to put a Fishsticks logo in there. ;)

Seriously, give me a while and I'll get to work on it. :p

Jazman, did you get the one I e-mailed to you?

saxoneagle 04-02-2008 03:16 PM

I've decided I'm going to mortgage the missus to get tickets for Tampa next year. Anyone want to make me an offer? :D

I can't find the post now, but to whoever it was that said the Giants weren't deserving winners: you're a lunatic. :D

I've watched every minute of their four play-off games and they've raised their game immensely since the regular season - which is what you have to do in the play-offs. They spanked Tampa Bay, showed real nerve against Dallas, and completely steamrollered an excellent Packers side, in inclement weather, at Lambeau. And then they outplayed a side that had just gone 18-0.

I'd say that given those performance they're perhaps one of the most deserving Super Bowl winners of all time.

And Chester, your grudge against Eli is equally insane. The bloke has been a class apart in the play-offs, aside from a quiet first half last night. And all without his favourite weapon, tight end Jeremy Shockey. I never rated the bloke, as is well documented on this thread, but he's been nothing short of sensational at crunch time. I agree that the MVP should have been Tuck or Strahan, but to suggest that Eli's poise and calm on those final two drives was anything but first class is just wrong.

Agree with all of that except the bit about steamrollering the Packers. That was really there only game that I thought could go either way. Even as a Pats fan and with the lead last night, I just knew the Giants would win.

Luckily, my two bets of the night came in ($100 on the Giants to beat the 13 point handicap and $100 on Maroney at 9/1 for first TD) so I'm not too disheartened.

Eli was class last night. Even the pick was fortunate for the Pats as Smith batted the ball upwards to the corner. Plaxico on the end of that pass would've been a completion... However, I don't think he deserved the MVP. Everyone knew the Giants would get 17/20 odd points but no-one expected the Pats to be held to 14. For that, the whole D-line gets my vote.

I made the money back that I put on every other game by backing Manning and Maroney for MVP and 1st TD as well as the first play being a run. I bet on the Patriots to lose in every game as I normally do with Palace which would show that every cloud has a silver lining lol. Even so I would rather the Pats had won to have the perfect season which may not happen again (or until next season :D)
