I don't know what the stats are but on ethat's stuck in my head from 20 years ago is that of the first 122 OTs, 62 were won by the team winning the toss and 60 by the coin toss losers.

If that pattern has continued all these years then obviously there isn't an advantage to winning the toss.

It seems the 50% ratio is still intact according to this article from 5 years ago. Interesting that I've learnt there is even a debate about the OT system, initially prompted by your post.
