If you're a Vikes fan I bet you're delighted you traded for Rosenfels when you could have been a landing spot for Cutler, possibly making you one of the favourites in the NFC.

And while I don't think the 49ers should have gone public about their concern with Stafford, I think it is at least understandable. And I still don't trust the guy. If he goes #1 I don't think it says much for the quality of the draft class.

Ben is right - McD has played this all wrong and the Broncos will suffer next year.

I heard one other interesting thing Sunday: Cutler asked for a trade shortly after the Broncos lost offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates -- Cutler's confidant -- to USC after the season. So maybe both sides need to go into marriage counseling here.

It was also a headline on ESPN at the time :)

Can I throw a caveate in. (Or some other word like that)

I'm not saying he is better than Cutler. But Cassel would have been a better fit for the Vikings. Or Kerry Collins.

Someone who can manage the game but when Peterson is being stopped, someone who can complete the throws rather than being intercepted by their own stupidity.

If Cutler went there, he would have to be throwing the ball 30 times a game as he is that good. It may open the game up more for Peterson, but he is a gamechanger.

If I was that big, fat Viking fan who paints himself purple with a Viking hat, i'd be devastated that we had Sage "Helicoptor" Rosenfels as their "game-manager". Just look what happened to the Colts-Texans.

23 days to the draft and i'm going back to my Mock with multiple changes. One of the QBs has fallen miserably.

Jay Cutler is a Chicago Bear. Congrats jlm!

Josh McDaniels' new franchise QB is... Kyle Orton. Ha, ha, ha. Well done, twonk.

Shame he has no-one to throw to!

Denver have picks 12 and 18 in the draft - they must like Freeman at 12 given the shocking trade they've just made.

I can't believe the Browns didn't come up with something equally attractive including Quinn.

jlmatthews 03-04-2009 03:22 AM

Browns fans at work were devastated. :)

Just another day in the life of a Browns fan then :p

pauldrulez 03-04-2009 10:10 AM

Could they send a 2nd Cleveland's way? For Anderson maybe.

I think there is a particular type of QB that they want. A game manager, and with Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall there, they have a very good WR pair like the Patriots had.

He is changing their offense to match the one he had in NE.

I feel the stupidest thing he has done is stick Scheffler on the trade block. He is one of the best catching TE's in the game.. If he hadn't been injured towards the end of last year, his numbers wouldn't have been that far away from the others in the AFC. And had my early votes for the ProBowl alongside Gonzalez.

What could the Broncos get for Orton? If they choose to trade him and go for someone like Anderson.

And i'll miss Rivers vs Cutler twice a season.

pauldrulez 03-04-2009 04:06 PM

First, the teams that have gained and lost from the Cutler trade:
Gain: San Diego (awful Pass defense and no QB to go after them)
KC: (Only one team above them, have their own QB and lots of picks in draft)
Denver: 2 First Round picks. A third. AND KYLE ORTON. What a steal.
Devin Hester and Matt Forte: Finally someone to air it out and to open some room on the field for the running game.

Big Gain:
The NFL: The focus goes back to the Draft

Lost: Green Bay (must take Malcolm Jenkins in the draft)
Jay Cutler and Josh McDaniels: Both their reputations are tarnished, if not ruined. JMcDonut must have a 8-8 season at the least and needs a QB.
Big Loss: Minnesota Vikings. Not only do they not have a capable QB, but 2 of the other 3 teams in their division have top 10 QBs.

Oh, other stuff I've heard.

Unable to confirm any of it:
Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews and BJ Raji have apparently failed their Combine Drugs tests.
Bears may look at Torry Holt to go opposite Hester.

My other thought:
McDaniels doesn't want Scheffler. Chicago should trade something to Denver for him as well.

Afternoon all

Just back from a week's snowboarding in Laax

Cutler deal, didn't see that one coming. Redskins DID bid for him it's been confirmed. Got knows how Jason Campbell feels right now.

I thought Orton looked ok though last season, Ben.

A good deal? Yes. A steal? Pah.

Yeah, Cutler's reputation was tarnished to the point that he had around 25% of all the teams in the NFL desperately trying to outdo one another for his services. He's ruined. :hmph:

Bears don't need Scheffler, however close he is to Cutler. They have Greg Olsen. (Who's in for one hell of a season now...)

RDSdaEAGLE 04-04-2009 07:33 AM

Cutler has a fat chin. Fact.

No surprises that Burress has been released by the Giants either. Big player, big trouble.

jlmatthews 04-04-2009 08:09 AM

Cutler is from Indiana and grew up a Bears fan. A man after my own heart.

They look like they will trade up for Sanchez who will fit their system better than Stafford and IMO is better.

They get Sanchez, Maualuga (for example) and a top defensive player next year and they are done.

pauldrulez 04-04-2009 08:54 AM

I'm sure we mentioned it at the time.

2:35 in.

Whose smart-ass idea was it for him to do that without a top on.

Puke central ;)

Why does everyone think that Sanchez is a great QB? USC got where they were last year on defence and playing against a weak PAC 10. The whole reason Sanchez declared this year is because all the good QBs (especially Bradford) are coming out NEXT year.

Better than Cutler? Seriously? When they've never played an NFL game?

I just don't think you can say that. Ryan and Flacco were anomolies - it's highly unlikely that Sanchez (or Stafford) will just step in and play brilliantly. Possible, but unlikely.

And don't forget the effect Cutler going will have on the morale of players like Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal.

Denver have done well on paper with this trade, but football isn't played on paper. McDaniels will be done in two years.

pauldrulez 04-04-2009 11:53 AM

Better than Stafford, not Cutler
