Take it you like all the pomp and ceremony that surrounds an Orange march (it was referred to as a 'walk' up here) ?

I was unfortunate enough to end up in Northern Ireland during the Orange marches a few years back. I didn't see happy, peaceful faces just constipated looking hateful ones. Not a pleasant experience.

Yes the faces I was observing and the general air around the 'walk', had more of an underlying 'up yours' triumphalism about it.

Some people seem to only find a justification to their lives by glorifying past hatred and working to ensure it continues.

You wait until the DUP insist they do this march at the Tory conference as part of the deal with May playing the flute :)

Hard to imagine something like that happening outside Scotland or Northern Ireland isn't it. Maybe none of us understand it because we are English. Just seems like an excuse to stir up religious bigotry to the outsider, but like with most things, well everything really, be good to hear the other side of the story. North Korea is an excellent example of that. We only ever hear the western capitalist version, and accept it blindly.

simplex 09-07-2017 02:43 PM

"I make you right"...
Ignored it the first few times and thought it was just the Eastenders extra (wannabe) scrote at work, but am hearing it more often. Its horrible and rubbish, not nice on the ears. Cant you just use "yes, you're right" or "that's correct," and add 'mate' if you need to.

I have been known to enjoy that, yes.

For someone who is so quick to jump on other people's views if they don't line up with your own loony left values, I was a little surprised to read about your intolerance here, that was all. Maybe I was a bit strong, calling you a **** tho so sorry about that...

I would love to see Ross Kemp do a documentary about the orange marches. They are an absolute disgrace.

A few years ago I was caught up in one in Glasgow when I was on my meal break. They were marching past Glasgow queen street station, a fat **** banging his drum, little 10 year olds playing the flute. A fire engine pulled up at the junction with the siren blaring. The cops didn't bat and eye lid while the bigoted cun ts kept marching. A teenage girl darted across in front of the marchers and one of the old ***** in the orange sash grabbed her and threw her to the floor. Still the cops done sweet fa. Absolute scummy bastards

Edit. Would love to know what a person from Essex finds so facinating about the bigotry

I m guessing as to where you are on a political map, and if right reckon you label at least 50% of the population as loony left.

It is the achilles heel for anyone into tolerance is the intolerance we show to an intolerant person. Not something I lose sleep over.

There is something about her that I have never taken to. She comes across as a false TV luvvie bitch, who knows how to dumb down and fake the emotion you need to put across to the masses who watch your X factor and Stars in your eyes type programmes.

Davina McCall doing 'Tonight Jeremy I am going to be Davina Attenborough' is more laughable to me than annoying, but there again I have not watched the programme she is doing this on, and dare say I would also be annoyed if I had.

Whilst it is a shame if your mate was forced off, I had to laugh at you complaining about it. There are so few posters on the Southern thread other than drivers because of the abuse anyone gets for criticising the strike action / overtime ban. The drivers (and their hangers-on) gang up on anyone that doesn't agree with them, throw around insults and generally ridicule posters for the most juvenile and pathetic reasons.

Anyway, back on thread, it annoys me how so many lunch places in the City seem obsessed with putting chillies in everything, from salads to sarnies to soups.

We should probably take this elsewhere, but re-read the thread. People have different views but there is no need to result to abuse if a long-suffering commuter airs their frustration re industrial action. When I called you up on it you said it was "banter". I don't agree. And I also know that at least one of those you and your colleagues abuse suffers from depression - and a recent episode was partly brought on by the nightmare commute. The mods haven't intervened when you, ketic, welt, Latvian and others have been abusive, have they?

Point of order, you have nothing to 'call me out' about. Secondly none of the train drivers have been abusive towards you. If you cant recognise the difference between banter and abuse thats not our problem. You do bring a lot on yourself what with all that 'lawyer partner' nonsense though. Nobody believes you when you can't spell words. I would say they have been remarkably patient with you though. Do you have shares in Southern?

But yeah probably best to leave all your angst in that thread. This topic is about potentially losing a decent poster in Evvo.

As with all sport, it's much more engaging when you're there watching it live.

We watched for 8 hours yesterday, with just a lunch break when we walked around the outside court areas. Son loved it, though rarely watches tennis on tv.

Great range of people, nice to chat with and welcoming security staff who could teach some of the football security stewards how to do it. They welcome you, check your tickets and any bags closely and wish you a nice day.

And they aren't fussed about you bringing in bottles of water, pre-opened or otherwise. I even saw a drinking water system from which you could refill your bottles for free.

Much more seriously, Charlie Gard's parents and their supporters.

Don't mean to be callous, and nobody deserves to go through what they have been with their child, but they are being selfish and prolonging their son's agony. He is essentially a vegetable, and the loving and caring thing would be to say goodbye.

They, and their supporters, have been - whether directly or indirectly - bad-mouthing the NHS and more specifically, Great Ormond Street.

I, unfortunately, know a lot about GOSH and how it works, and it is the most wonderful hospital full of the most wonderful people. It is the world's leading children's hospital, full of those dreaded experts.

They have been trying everything for Charlie. They have been attacked, but can't respond owing to patient confidentiality.

To see pro-lifers, Trump and the Vatican included, use this case to further their ideals is sickening, doubly so when you see the abuse GOSH has been getting from some quarters.

Your attitude towards the parents really annoys me.

They are parents desperately trying to do the best for their child, yet you call them selfish? what a **** you are for referring to them in such a way. They are experts on their own child, so lets not see this as a Parents v experts argument , where we all just look at the professionals as the only sane voice in the argument (I talk generally here about cases as well that sees parents set against professionals, and have personal experience of it as well).

Where have they slagged GOSH? Or are you using the word 'slagged' as meaning they disagree with them on the issue of their own child?

Also if the decision finally does arrive that the ventilator is switched off why the **** are the parents being told by the hospital they cannot take their own child home with them to die? Totally inhumane and also makes me a little concerned about a professional arrogance overriding compassion over what is happening here.

I guess it's harder to deal with if you have depression mate. I've been called all sorts as well but it doesn't make it right. You should be able to come on here, have an adult conversation, and not feel intimidated. It's nothing an occasional 'sorry' wouldn't fix.

They are not doing what is best for their child. They are not experts about him and his condition, actually. His mum said he wasn't in any pain. She has no way of knowing that. A machine is doing his living for him. They are doing what is best for themselves.

His mum cites 18 cases where kids have been given the same experimental treatment - none of them are or were in as remotely as bad a state as Charlie.

GOSH has done everything they can to help Charlie. They got zero thanks. Their first priority is, rightly, the child. They are world-leaders in this disease and, backed by four courts, reluctantly decided after months and months that the most compassionate action is to end his life with dignity.

He can't be allowed home to die because he will likely die as soon as he is removed from all the equipment that is currently keeping him 'alive'.

I never actually used the word slagged. The parents have given various interviews where they have made their opinions of GOSH quite clear. They have engaged in a protest right outside the hospital (not at all upsetting for all those other poorly children in there...). Supporters and Twitter campaign groups in Charlie's name have asked for protests, for GOSH donations to be stopped; said groups have used words like scum, and implored people not to take their children to GOSH to be 'murdered'.

The Vatican hospital offering to help has zero published work or comment on mitochondrial disease. Trump and all the Americans who have jumped on the bandwagon are pro-lifers who believe a miracle is possible. It is not. The humane thing is to let Charlie go. Therefore, if you want to use a word like inhumane, I would say it is the parents who are guilty.

Can you backup your claims that I have highlighted in bold?

I have used slagged as a word to mean the same as your claim of 'bad mouthing' .

While you are at it could you tell me what interventions GOSH has used on Charlie to deal/help with his condition? Have they used any emerging ones? If so which one(s)?

Back to my 'pet' theme of dogs where they shouldn't be. I was in the British Library cafe yesterday catching up on some emails. In walks a young woman with her little poop machine. Two transgressions in one - a dog in a place serving food and a dog in the British Library. Is there nowhere you can escape the creatures?

From whose perspective? This is a case that actually revolves around opinion.

My main issue here is that the parents have been referred to as selfish for fighting in what they believe is in the best interests of their child.

Is GOSH a world leader in this condition?

Why has an American couple said their own child has similar symptoms to Charlie and would be dead if he had simply had access to the treatment over here?

http://www.thesun.co.uk/living/33180...rd-court-case/

Why should the parents not fight to get treatment that they believe would help their child, especially as it wont be the NHS funding it?

Because their fight might be more in their interests than in their son's?

Understandable, their position. But I trust in GOSH more.

The American child's condition is simply not comparable.

El Aguila 12-07-2017 11:02 PM

It's wrong to criticise the parents. There but for the grace of god, for sure.
However I think PS is substantially right in what he says and the parents are being misled by these ghouls.

How exactly can it be in their interests?

And you trust GOSH more based on what exactly, your opinion of the place or because of the treatment they have given Charlie, because you know its the best type of treatment available to treat his condition? Why do you believe the treatment in America is not good for him?

In what way is the child in America so different to Charlie?

Surely at some point the parental rights should be respected, when all we are dealing with here is opinion, where professionals have a different view from each other what can and cannot help Charlie.

It's precisely because the parents rights are being respected that it has gone to the highest courts. And in those courts, the 'opinions' of the experts have been given a full hearing.

El Aguila 12-07-2017 11:24 PM

What do you mean by "the parents' rights should be respected"? That their opinion should override that of the GOSH?
It's generally accepted and explicitly stated in the article you linked that the American child's case is very different and Charlie's brain damage is extensive and irreversible.

Yes true but just as in the case of the American parents they basically had the choice your child dies or you try this experimental drug. Charlies parents should be given the same choice, especially as the cost of this is not an issue for the NHS. Now maybe people who label the parents as selfish should maybe think on the fact that they are prepared to extend the life of their child knowing he will need round the clock care and then ask themselves if this is really the actions of people who are selfish, and instead see them as loving parents trying to do all they can to extend the life of their child. It is this labelling I found so objectionable.

All said and done let us hope that whatever ends up happening in this case, is going to be in the best interests of Charlie.

It's not about money, it's about the best interests of the child (which may not be the same as the best interests of the parents).

I know it is not, but it could have been used as an argument if it was NHS/Government having to pay the cost.

You have mentioned the best interests of the parents before and I asked you how it is in the best interests of the parents? Can I ask again please?

What's your beef with dogs? Are you scared of them? I agree that the library isn't the best place for dogs but I also think that the library isn't the best place for noisy kids and w@nkers holding conversations on phones. I'm old fashioned like that.

As for dogs in eaterys. What is the problem with that? It's not a problem in Europe only the UK. I take my dogs to restaurants in Europe and they are positively welcomed. They lay under the table whilst we are eating and you don't hear a peep from them. That's more than can be said for a lot of kids in restaurants in this country where the parents let them run wild.

We've got it up here in Edinburgh too. You just move so slow. And now in the summer with my window down, i daren't look to my side at any pedestrians in case I get done for curb crawling.

You certainly are. A single mans attempt to wreck the BBS, armed only with a red pen. Banned any more decent posters lately, whilst refusing to do anything to bullying feckwits? You think you are above criticism for being the most ridiculous moderator ever? Why don't you redeem yourself then by doing something about Evvo? Prove me wrong.

Absolutely this. I don't care whether it's a Michelin star restaurant, or McDonald's - why do people think it's okay to let their kids run around screaming like it's some sort of zoo? Although - I find that offensive to zoos - most wild animals are likely more pleasant to be around than other people's kids.

First of all I'm allergic to many dogs but leaving that aside, they yap constantly during the day because selfish owners leave them at home when they go to work, they leap at you and dribble on you when you visit people's houses, they crap everywhere and many owners still don't clear it up, its unhygienic having them in places where food is served (they are animals after all), some of them are prone to attack people. For me though its the arrogance of some of the owners who think everyone should love their smelly, fluffy things on leads as much as them and that they should be free to take them wherever they like and inflict them on everyone else. I'm sure I will get tons of negative reps for this (in fact more than if I had said the same about children) but this thread is for getting things off your chest and I feel better now thank you.
