I keep hearing the name "Tik Tok", but I actually haven't a clue what it is.

I really don't want to have to Google it. My cousin told me yesterday it was a sort of YouTube/Twitter.

A few of the car shows on TV where they customize cars with bloody great engines and exhaust system will install these flaps that can be opened by a switch under the dash by the driver. The effect is as you describe... a car with basically no muffler.

Heard a few around here... it is now the must have thing for arseholes. Also highly illegal, hence the hidden switch to close the flap and quieter the car when the cops are about.

They scare the shit out of me if they rev up anywhere near by.

This terrible tragedy pales into insignificance people dying with the virus, losing their jobs, and having a fecked economy for a decade.

Why do so many women get lip filler? Hasn’t anyone told them it looks awful. One lady was interviewed on the BBC news this morning and she looked like an older version of Leslie Ash. It’s a right mess.

It’s baffling isn’t it. All the women I know that have done it look feckin awful and somehow they think it looks great. I’m just too polite to tell them that they genuinely looked perfectly beautiful to me before. It’s some form of body dysmorphic disorder. The ageing process is difficult to take, especially in a world where the superficial and image seems more important than ever unfortunately.

I switched on a music channel the other day and it had a boy band special. Left it on as it was a change from CBeebies for my daughter and she appeared to be enjoying it. But it was just one video after another of young boys just showing off cringeworthingly in front of the camera, in various ‘sexy’ poses. I just thought ‘wtf has happened to our society that these pricks prancing about like that are considered cool or normal? Totally and utterly embarrassing, talentless twerps masquerading within a field that should be showcasing real musicians and talent. I know I sound like an old git but what message does that sh*t send out to young impressionable minds?

I could have swore today's one was a joke name...

I especially love the ones about musicians...for some posters it seems the more obscure the person is, the better their genius.

As in, 'only a true music lover like me can appreciate the subtle vibes of this Sudanese bongo player from the early 1960s. His drought period was truly some of the most exhilirating work every produced by a 1960s East African bongo player.'

Exactly what your parents said about what you listened to/watched when you were younger. It is the way of things. The videos being shown are designed to appeal to what the younger generation want to see not you. The old argument about 'real musicians' never holds water. It's called 'pop' for popular for a reason or we would all only listen to someone who has gained a grade 9 playing the piano rather than some 3 chord wonder.
Ps
I do agree with your sentiments though.

Receiving the post match interview email from the club with the following title:

When asked the direct question about Wilf, the answer was "well we don't know" and he only just mentioned Guaita & Benteke in passing but saying nothing specific about their injuries.

No, I think it was from the Millwall 4-3 game.

They mentioned the 4-3 because they referenced Brighty scoring (who was sitting in the stands looking half asleep) and Pardew.

Hedgehog 26-06-2020 01:34 AM

On the NBC commentary (Arlo White and Graham Le Saux) they did mention Palace beat Liverpool in Gerrard's last game, and that Palace were the last team to win at Liverpool in the League.

I was expecting mention of the 9-0 at any time when it got to 4-0, but mercifully they didn't.

To start the game they were pretty 50/50 in there commentary, but by the end they had been smitten by Liverpool and were well and truly having a full-on wank fest.

To be fair, I can't really blame them.

I was responding to strawberry mivi, who used GMTV - and how the hell am I expecting to keep tabs on the names of trashy daytime television programmes ? I should obviously rely on you for such information going forwards.

I would agree that the BBC and Channel 4 don't set a high bar, but can I please cite the following names as evidence that ITV plumbs the depths: Piers Morgan, Philip Schofield, Lorraine Kelly, Loose Women ...

west country boy 26-06-2020 05:34 PM

Piers cnt Morgan is the biggest hypocrite ever. Goes on about BLM but he doesn't care one fk. He hates the Govt, nothing to do with policy, simply because Boris cant be arsed to be questioned by the selfish idiot and refuses to appear on the show. I'm surprised anyone goes on the show, because he never listens to a thing they say or gives them a chance to answer, whatever the politics.
He has no politics - he only thinks of his large gob.

I'm surprised anyone goes on the show, because he never listens to a thing they say or gives them a chance to answer, whatever the politics.
He has no politics - he only thinks of his large gob.

Saw the article about his interview with Dizzee Rascal. Great example of him trying to be the important part of the interview rather than the interviewee. If the guest had been any of the white acts on this tour would PM have asked them about the BLM protests-no. Dizzee Rascal is a successful artist who came on the show to talk about his career. PM only asked him about BLM because he's Afro-Caribbean. He was being treated differently because of this even in this subtle way. That's what BLM are saying. Treat us the same as everyone else everytime.

Small man syndrome.

I would go gay for Bergerac. Not so much for Dudgeon who drinks in my old local (always with
a chap, never with his wife).

ITV is excellent at middlebrow drama like Lewis, Endeavour, Broadchurch, Victoria and so on. Their "Isolation Stories" a few weeks ago were jolly good as well.

Admittedly this is a while ago but ITV's "Poirot" was probably the best adaptation of Agatha Christie in the world ever. She was a dreadful woman and a not very good writer, but she knew how to weave a plot. Compare this to the recent BBC adaptations which are shit on shit on shit on toast. They even made John Malkovich untalented, unless his talent was a really bad Officer Crabtree off of "'Allo!, 'Allo!" impersonator.

Even if ITV only had these two programmes it would be the best channel in the world ever.

It's not necessarily a bad thing.

I had a teacher at school like that some 45 years ago, and I still hear his voice on my shoulder when I post on here (believe it or not... I'm sure he is turning in his grave). "Think before you ink" was the saying back then... at least now days we can read and correct before posting, which obviously I am guilty of not doing!

We (or at least I do) need policing by the likes of WCB. It's not too late even at my age to get a slap on the wrist once in a while.

While I reject the slanderous/libellous assertion that I am not "a bad thing", I do think facts are fairly important. PeterH's ramblings about The Soudan and bongo-playing were a mere frippery of course, but there are occasions when BBSers post utter bollocks as fact (qv Johnybegood on the George Floyd thread about the poor innocent Oirish who deffo never done no slaving at all ever).

I used to be a SPaG pedant in my youth but I realised many years ago that this is only one step above being a gong farmer.
