I think the colour is to do with the shirt rather than the skin. Loads of ‘white collar’ workers leaving. It’s a bit like when Pulis left with his white trainers

Beef, so a black person in a "white collar" job who decides to move because he/she can afford it would be described as "white flight"?

Do me a favour!

Also, Pocahontas was an injun from Virginia. It took just one look at the Medway towns to make her drop dead.

Things that annoy me? The slavish fawning over "Banksy". 16 million pounds for the latest pile of turd.

"Former BBC arts editor Will Gompertz wrote at the time that he believed Love is in the Bin would go on to be seen as "one of the most significant artworks of the early 21st Century".It is not a great painting that can be compared to a late Rembrandt, or a sculpture to sit alongside Michelangelo's David, but in terms of conceptual art emanating from [Marcel] Duchamp's Dadaist sensibility, it is exceptional".

I know people who sold up businesses and moved on from Thornton Heath exactly because the area had turned too ethnic for them. On the High Street, the barbers and a deli of sorts. They told me why they were moving.

At least they were honest about it, unlike some.

The myth is that when Lautaro killed the conquistidor Pedro de Valdivia, he cut out his heart and ate it to symbolise destroying the heart of colonial power in Chile. It didn't quite work out like that in the end. Although, the Spanish never did conquer that part of the world.

That happened in the 1850s and onwards when the Chilean government offered land to Germans and others to colonise the area. Principally to stake a claim to it before Argentina could. It was called the Pacification. The same happened in Argentina, but the president there just sent troups to slaughter the indians - rightly or wrongly thinking they were working at the behest of Chile.

On that note, my wife is much happier, and she just brought me some pineapple sponge cake.

Unfortunately, when Peter's esposa gets annoyed with him, (which seems rather frequently) he seems to take it out on the residents of Blighty who he, (while he educates them about Co-Vid) has christened Plague Islanders.
Meanwhile, as himself and the Senora lovingly make up by spoon feeding one another large gob fulls of sponge cake, the British residents of the BBS have to live shamefully with the stigma.

It seems that Chile has some issues which The Plague Islands have not yet encountered (from the Economist):

Quote:

Chile’s president, Sebastián Piñera, declared a state of emergency for 15 days in two southern regions. The army will be deployed to help local police, who have struggled to contain violent attacks by indigenous groups seeking to reclaim ancestral lands. A demonstrator died during a protest led by indigenous groups in Santiago. Chile is in the process of drafting a new constitution, which may decentralise power and expand indigenous rights. A far-right presidential candidate campaigning on a law-and-order platform is polling well in a tight race ahead of the election on November 21st, in which Mr Piñera cannot stand.

I think they were a little less shit than the actual yanks (who were generally huns and dagoes and other undesirables). This was probably only because they never got the chance to expand westwards, mind you. I dunno if they would of been quite as genocidal as your lot in the Argentine though.

On Sept 21, 2021 Waterford in Ireland had double vaxed 99.7% of its over 18 population.
On Oct 11, 2021 it had the highest co-vid rate in the whole of Ireland.

Jeez, really? Being double vaccinated doesn't necessarily stop you getting it. But in most cases, it will stop you getting seriously ill or dying from it. Possibly helps against Long Covid as well. It's not a magic bullet.

Nice. Leave some food and drink for the other beachgoers though

Nobody said it is, except some members of the medical field when it was first introduced. There was a lot of 'Possiblys' thrown about. It's just remarkable that a county can go from having the best double vax rate in the country and within a month have the highest rate of infection. That's all.

that 99.7% looks unrealistic though. Typo?

I thought the same when I heard it. As I was with the story, then I looked it up. That's over 18's, so I'm guessing many of the recent infections have been u-18's.

Is it?
I think the vaccinations, while amazing for all of us, have probably led to some complacency, based on the assumption you originally outlined. Which is irritating. We've had flu vaccines for years, so you'd think most people would know the limitations.

This is probably the hundredth version of the same post. You’re all equally culpable for state of the thread, along with Blind (and now including myself) and all the others who insist we must read their self-righteous sermons on thread derailment… on a topic about a murdered MP.

Channel 4 are advertising a series of programmes under the banner of "Climate Matters". TFL advertising that "Every Journey Matters".

It's lazy, lazy advertising. It dilutes any effectiveness. It's annoying (a bit).

Isn’t that just two different definitions of the word ‘matters’? The first physical substance and the second importance? The first could be both and a play on words but the second is just referring to every journey having importance.

Hadn't analysed it that deeply tbh. Just thought that they are very obvious tie ins to Black Lives Matters and effectively stealing the tag line merely detracts from the original. It's the lack of original thought in the advertising that I find annoying (a bit).

‘Climate matters’ pre dates either. I remember reading and using the term over two decades ago when studying geography. When used then it didn’t mean ‘the climate does matter’ as a call to action; it meant ‘discuss all things climate related here’.

That just puts you in a bad light.

I am happy to accept that you are better than most of the participating BBS, despite clear evidence to the contrary.
