Anyway, good enjoyable season. Brag, I predicted the Saints before the season started. Beat, Paul you never learn and come across as much of a troll as Jookbeard.

Anyway thats me done with here for another year.

Glad to know you care.

But unlike jookbeard, I don't celebrate the death of another Palace fan.

And to be honest, I only come on this thread out of habit anyway. And more to shit on Manning's parade than anything else.

The Media God Manning lost to Breesus Christ. And I love that.

Swanny32 10-02-2010 12:30 PM

So, what do we do for the next few months then?

Read posts from last year between February and April's draft. You'll see that a certain poster posts a lot of shit about a lot of things he knows nothing about. Put him on ignore and enjoy the build up to the draft :p

Swanny32 10-02-2010 01:16 PM

What's Saxon saying? I have him on ignore after his complete nonsense posts before the draft last year. :D ;)

Possibly Lebron. At least he was honest about it, unlike Cindy.

Splitting hairs... AFC Championship game, yes, play-offs no. Step forward, Frank Reich (Bills vs Oilers, whatever year that was, down 35-3).

Finally, thoughts on the game...

Brees, just outstanding. How many people can give Manning a 10pt head-start and still play that well? Awesome. And the third Purdue QB to win a Super Bowl (Dawson & Griese before him).
Similarly awesome in less of a headline way: Hartley, Henderson and Vilma (the coverage where he started near the line and back-peddled about 30 yards was great, as was the time he beat Jeff Saturday to the edge to make a tackle for a loss - thank you to the Jets for letting him go, take it that was a Mangini decision?).
Best player in defeat (n.b. not a condemnation of Manning) Joseph Addai. Elusive, always threatening
Second best player in defeat: Dallas Clark.
Sean Payton won the coaching matchup, big style. Love the fact he had thought about the onside kick details so much he told the officials to be ready for it.
Asking Matt Stover to kick a 51 yarder? Didn't like that call one bit.
Or getting a kick returner to bring a ball out from five yards deep in the end zone and only reach the ten yard line. If they take that on the 20 that same 51 yarder is only from 41.

And finally... I love how for the past two years I've gotten ready for the game thinking, "It can't be anywhere near as good as last year's," and we've had three crackers on the trot. Sure beats the mid/late 80s when the NFC team would frequently win by huge margins.

Great post fella, can't disagree with anything there. You're right about that Vilma play .. brilliant. And the last three SB. Coincidence they are since I returned to find my love for the game again? ;)

Swanny32 10-02-2010 02:06 PM

Lol Sax, only with you fella!

jazman 10-02-2010 03:57 PM

And there I was thinking Paul was the only gayer on this thread .. :D

I thought you were travelling? Who spends this much time on the BBS when they're travelling?

And as for last year.

I take it you are referring to Matt Cassel and me insisting that he would be franchised and traded elsewhere.

Yes, I got the pick wrong. I was expecting a pick in the early 20s from either the Lions or the Vikings. I did think Pioli would make a deal, but I also expected it not to be as high as the 3rd pick. I was thinking of their 2nd and a player.

Yes, I did overrate his trade value. But, he was the only top-tier QB available at the time. As in, Jay Cutler wasn't up for trade at that point.

The Pats wanted him off the cap to sign players like Leigh Bodden, Springs, Taylor, Baker etc. They didn't have time to push for more as they would have missed out on Bodden for sure.

Whereas the Broncos had Cutler on cheap money and under contract.

And before the fact that Mike Vrabel went with Cassel, he was due a $3.5m roster bonus on the Monday and would likely have been cut. If he'd have been cut, what are the odds that the Jets, Dolphins or Bills pick him up? He got traded out of the division and I reckon that the same thing will be happening to Adalius Thomas in the future. And it wouldn't shock me if Matt Light follows.

As for the draft, i've watched a lot more college football this year, along with 5 other guys, we are also reviewing tape of players for another website (to be named in the near future) for draft preparation and competing against experts from other places. And, when there is no Football for 7-8 months depending on when your teams season ends, you need to fill it with something, and the Draft/Combine fill that time for me.

Paul, you're right in saying that the Colts get a lot of decisions their way

Trouble is there's one team in the NFL who get even more. Particularly when anyone dares to breathe near that team's QB. And you support them.

Pot, kettle, etc.

Benzhiyi 10-02-2010 07:47 PM

Oh and Cassel to the Phins last year? No frickin' chance.

I said Vrabel.

Any information of the Pats system would have been good.

And yes, I am aware that you have Porter, Taylor and Wake.

Did Wake improve as the year went on? He seemed to be more involved whenever I caught the Phins games.

There is no way on Earth that we get more decisions that the Colts. Admittedly, we get a lot, but the Colts get every decision their way in home games.

Before people bring up the Tuck Rule, that balanced out a decision vs the Raiders 30odd years before that was just as bad. Yes, 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Yes, Brady does call for flags. A lot more this year including some that were ridiculous. But, the rule was changed for Carson Palmer and then corrected again for Brady. You can't go waving yourself at a QBs knees. The Saints Lineman that clattered Favre's legs was a ridiculous non-call for example.

But, what's the difference between a QB calling for a flag and a WR or DB complaining about pass interference every time there is a competition for a catch between players.

And while this was happening:
http://civilizer.files.wordpress.com...yree-catch.jpg

This was happening, 4 screens of Holding on the Giants.
http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-...-time-pats.jpg

But, it's never brought up. Because refs miss things and that play broke down so many times, it's hard to follow it (said through gritted teeth)

I want to move on anyway, i'm happy to take your opinions on that Manning isn't the choker, but there is no doubt that the Colts are chokers. Win in the regular season all you want, but it means nothing if you don't get the Championship.

I believe Polian said something about not wanting 16-0 but wanting the title. He ended up with neither.

:D That was great.

Also liked Lombardi pointing out that Jerry Rice was only the third receiver taken in his draft. Rep going for anyone who can name the other two without research (must be honest, I couldn't).

Must have been 5 or so years before I was born... though I did try and do my draft prep while swimming around :D

I want Eagles fans to read their pick very quickly (no. 24) and briefly panic. :D

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/...-Take-One.html

BTW, you know how some Saints players held up newpapers after winning on Sunday? I'd like John Terry to do that after every game, just to remind everyone what sort of person he is.

elliott 10-02-2010 10:50 PM

You pick any play in football and I'll show you holding.

Actually.

Love the 2nd point.

Can you imagine. He could wear it as a badge of honour :D

By the way, PFT tweeted this, can't imagine many other QBs having this passion.

Love it

Strathers - thanks for the heads up on the PTI podcast. Today I've been doing a bit of a marathon as I have ten of them spanning the last couple of weeks. Very enjoyable especially the fact that they cover a lot of sports.

Points of note to the ones I have listened to so far;

1. They don't like the fact that a regular season game is played in Europe
2. Boy do they like this T-Bow kid ...
3. Great interview with a college football player who just took a year out to do a scholarship at Oxford to return this year for the combine and get a place with an NFL franchise .. didn't catch his name though
4. Not only cover US sports, mentioned tennis a lot seeing as it was during the Australian open ... made a comment about Andy Murray which I found hilarious but I cannot recall it right now .. will try and find it again at some stage ..
5. They fit a lot into a 25 minute podcast and while it is quite intense it's short sharp and to the point. Unlike Rants & Raves where you need time to listen to it for a couple of hours ...
