Norway vs Slovakia, recent former Flyer Ole Kristian Tollefsen with a cheap shot to the head of Lubos Bartecko, his helmet flew off and he hit his head on the ice, blood flowing. Typical of that club on Broad Street.

Yes, I winced at that one ...

So anyway, been looking through the Combine news and looks as though Tebow won't be throwing in any of the QB drills, bit of a shame considering the hype around this guy but I like the man's confidence.

jazman 26-02-2010 02:24 PM

Rumour is Tebow can't throw ... (according to PTI he can't do an awful lot and cannot believe the hype that surrounds him)

Swanny32 26-02-2010 02:48 PM

I don't know about that, some of the game footage I have seen of him says different.

jazman 26-02-2010 02:53 PM

There just seems to be something about him when they talk ... can't recall exactly, Strathers may have a better memory than me on this ... suggestion is that he will go a few rounds down the draft ... or am I thinking about someone else? :)

Swanny32 26-02-2010 02:57 PM

A couple of the mock draft websites I have looked at suggest maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick for him and most likely to be the Jaguars who take him but both sites think that the Jags will trade up in the draft to take him in round 2.

Swanny32 26-02-2010 03:03 PM

This was hard watching, feel sorry for the guy.

Confident and great leader.

Incredibly slow release. Need to see his new throwing motion, but wont be able to run like he did at Florida.

I also don't think he can read a defense. And it's no mistake that the first NFL-style D that he faced, he got murdered.

Swanny32 26-02-2010 03:51 PM

I definitely have a greater interest in the combine and the draft than ever have done so hopefully I can really delve into college football next season. I'm enjoying the NFL.com coverage so far on the lead up to the combine, I don't know what I would do without that website. I know it has been mentioned on here 100 times or more but I really wish Sky would get NFL Network.

Just found this whilst messing around online:

"Brian Westbrook was a big ESPN topic after his release from the Eagles. A Brian Westbrook ESPN interview was then landed by Sports Center as they seemed to get his exclusive thoughts on what happened. However, the interview seemed to take a weird turn early on when he talked about worshiping Howard Stern. At that point, the Brian Westbrook ESPN interview was clearly anything but, as the station had been duped by a notorious prank caller.

ESPN was obviously quite anxious to hear from Westbrook since his release was the big NFL story of the day. But in their rush, they got fooled by a professional prank caller - and someone who may be facing major jail time soon.

The Brian Westbrook ESPN prank was reportedly made by 'Captain Janks,' a.k.a. Thomas Michael Cipriano. The 'Captain' is a massive Howard Stern fan, who has made several prank calls in which he tells the victim he 'worships the prostate of Howard Stern.' In fact, Cipriano called Stern this morning to brag about how he pulled off the scam.

According to 'Captain Janks,' he first called ESPN as Brian Westbrook's manager and insisted that Sports Center interview Westbrook live. The network agreed and put him on the line with anchor Scott Van Pelt 20 minutes later, then it only took a minute for him to make the joke. Van Pelt wasn't visible taken aback, although much of the audience likely was.

Staging a fake Brian Westbrook ESPN interview is Thomas Michael Cipriano's most elaborate prank call. However, one might think he would have other concerns right now, given the legal trouble he is in. According to the Times Herald, Cipriano pleaded guilty to fraud in five counties, as he took money for public appearances in bars, but never showed up.

Cipriano is facing eight years of court supervision, and must pay back $5,926 in restitution for his fraud. But he could have faced up to 45 years in jail without the plea agreement. He blamed his fraud on a painkiller addiction, so he must also go under 'addict supervision.'

With the Brian Westbrook ESPN prank, 'Captain Janks' is sure to be more in demand for public appearances. To avoid jail time, this time he would have to show up for them. Yet even in the face of legal troubles and intense supervision, he found time to carry on his act and take it to a national stage.

While Cipriano faces his newfound fame and past infamy, the real Brian Westbrook hasn't contacted ESPN. For now, his focus is on finding a new team, assuming he wants to continue his career after multiple concussions."

If, like me, you are bored tomorrow, then i'll provide the link to an NFL Network stream again.

I've watched Total Access all week and there coverage is 2nd to none.

I also recommend http://blog.pfwonline.com/ Yes, these are my guys from Boston who work for the Patriots, but they are also at the Combine and blogging live. They got some very good exclusives last year, as they meet other coaches and get good interviews. I'd say keep an eye on it and you never know what you'll see (apart from jokes and reviews of their dinner)

And also, the website where me and a few others will be breaking down the draftees with the help of tape, will be going live towards the end of next week when we receive most of it. It's our first year doing it, and it's not for money/jobs etc, it's just a fans perspective of the players and how we see them compared to an expert.

And the only reason the Jags are doing it is to sell tickets. Which he will. For two years until he is cut.

And one other thing.

DJax, Maclin, Celek, McCoy. All under 25.

Kevin Kolb. 25.

Don't be shocked to see McNabb disappear, no matter what Reid says.

There are rumours that the younger players would like the young QB. If you can keep these players together, they'll be a great offense. They need to get working together in Training Camp. Trade McNabb and give Kolb all the Camps to work with these young guys.

The issue with Tebow is that he is not used to playing in an NFL style offense (played purely out of the shotgun for Florida) and that he has a delayed throwing motion (he brings the ball down to his waist, then up to his shoulder before he throws).

He recognises both this issues and is working with a four man coaching team (made up of college coaches and NFL OCs) to address both. In particular, developing a new, faster throwing motion is taking time, so he is not going to throw at the combine (he will still do the other drills and tests), instead he will wait until his pro day. He mentioned that he is working 16 hour days at the moment, working on this.

Here is a good interview with him at Lucas Oil stadium with some of the NFL network crew, talking about all of this: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-player...bine-interview

Tebow's main strength in college was his rushing. In the pros, the defenses are more athletic and this would be nullified. Some have suggested that he might be better off as a tight end of full back! Can't see this happening myself.

Also, NFL.com are doing a series of 'combine bios'. Here is Tebow's: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combin...-bio-Tim-Tebow

Some would argue that this year's isn't an amazing QB class, but nonetheless it would be a huge surprise to see Tebow go before the 3rd round. Probably to Jacksonville.

jazman 26-02-2010 04:51 PM

That sounds about right Zonin.... don't you find it amazing that a player that is only suspected of going in the later rounds get so much publicity? I'd understand it if he had the potential to be the number one draft pick ...

Strathclyde Eagle 26-02-2010 05:12 PM

Just wanted to have a rant about the Fins official Twitter feed from the combine. "Someone from the Buffalo table just got a sandwich!" Great, very helpful.

Will comment about Tebow later. Don't let me forget.
