Blimey, you've changed your tune Paul.
|
I've been looking back on the season.
Brady was special. This was the old style Brady and although I liked it, I can't help but think you are wasting the last few years of a Hall of Fame QB by putting average WRs around him. |
Yet 3 months ago when Moss left.....you know the rest.
|
As I said after watching the Jets game, they have the defense (if they retain Cromartie) to get pressure on Brady with 4, cover the outside WRs with 2 and then have 5 in the zones that are after the RB and TEs.
The only other team to get close to doing it. Cleveland. The Ryan Defense doesn't like Brady. 3 losses all season. All to the Ryan D. When you need the ball getting out of your hands within 3 seconds, and the Zones are cutting out the short options, you need a deep threat that you can chuck it up to. Gronk and Hernandez are capable of it, but they have the role of having to wait to see who is blitzing before they get forward. Yes, it's one game, but in the playoffs you have to have a change-up option. Maybe Taylor Price or Brandon Tate can provide it, but if Brady doesn't trust you, you don't get the ball. Like Hernandez didn't for the last 5 weeks of the season/playoffs. I've also seen some mock drafts projected Mark Ingram to the Patriots. No interest. IMO, the way he runs wont work in the NFL. Just my Opinion, of course. 3 picks in top 33. I trade Meriweather for a 3rd, or to move up 10 spots in the first. Passrusher, D-Line (or Guard) and Mikel LeShoure. In my ideal, the Pats get up and get Robert Quinn or Von Miller, but it's doubtful. |
I must admit, I haven't really looked into the 2011 draft class yet, I had a brief look at a couple of mock draft websites about a month ago but am yet to seriously look. I'm just hoping we sort out our D, get in another LB and a Corner should be very high on our list of priorities.
|
I'd imagine you'll be looking at O-Line.
Someone like Castonzo out of BC, Gabe Carimi or Sherrod out of Miss (State?) CB-wise, Jimmy Smith is another one being looked at first-round wise. The top guy (Peterson) will be long gone by then. |
OL we definitely need to improve but we were saying that last season and we went and drafted almost every DE in the draft!

Ideally we'd sort out the CB issue with Asomugha in FA (hey, I can dream of having two pro bowl corners!) and get a LB in the second round like Ayers, Wilson or Carter to sort out a few of the issues which have stopped us from getting to the next level and making us genuine SB contenders. |

Spot on RG is no1 priority followed by RT and RCB I hope we resign Harrison as #2 RB as well :) |
I wanted the older Pouncey last draft rather than Graham........ I hope we make amends this time

Uh-oh. Paul's starting predicting draft picks.
I'll look forward to two months of him telling me that with our first round pick, the Fins will either trade down or select a QB, RB, WR, TE, T, G, C, DE, DT, LB, CB, S, P or K. Eat your heart out Mel Kiper! ;) |

I follow Weaver on Twitter and he reckons he's playing next season.

Ben. You forgot that they might also trade up to pick one of the aforementioned positions ;)

Who is the best Long Snapper in the draft? :D |
The only thing that interests me in the post NFL season is the actual draft, not all the hype ... loose interest at that, but this year from what I have read this weekend there is every chance that there will not be a next season. Epic fail by all parties if that is the case. Makes the suggestion that a lot of sports should follow the so may good things that the NFL do like salary cap quite a moot point ...

That last sentence doesn't make a bit of sense Jaz.
I loved staying up to watch the draft last year but I also enjoyed watching some of the combine as well which I will do again this year. Other than that there isn't really much else to look forward to other than the start of camp which I enjoy keeping track of to see how the rookies are shaping up. Big off season for us in general though with contract talks between Vick and DJax as well as the potential trade of Kolb. His contract next season is a very friendly $1.4 million so I wouldn't be surprised if we try to keep hold of him but he's pretty much asked for a trade although not official, and at the moment it's looking as though he's going to end up in Arizona as Wisenhunt likes him, Larry Fitzgerald went on record during Superbowl week stating that Kolb was the QB he wanted in Zona and Kolb himself has said his preferred destination would be with the Cards. What's he worth? I'd say at the most a 3rd round pick maybe with another pick later, say a 7th. |
Good god, I just read a report on Kolb and the "pundit" reckons Kolb is worth a mid 1st round draft pick!

Combine starts in two weeks, draft on 28th April!
Just watched Total Access, did a mildly interesting bit on playoff teams for next year, on average 5 teams of the 12 are different, so they predicted that Seahawks, Chiefs, Eagles, Jets and Falcons would drop out. Personally I more or less agree, although my choices would be: Seahawks: unlikely to be much improved where as Rams and 49ers should be. Jets: will lose some high paid players and will prob miss out on a wildcard this time. Falcons: relatively uninjured this year, Saints should take the division again next year Colts: they seem in decline, can see Texabs sorting out their secondary and taking the division Eagles: just because Giants and Cowboys should both be better and we are a couple of injuries from a mediocre season |
