Newton's first hit from an NFL lineman will show how big his balls are for a fight, or if he even has any. We might well find out pretty early in the season, too.

I'm still shocked at how badly the Falcons bent over and allowed themselves to be raped. Anything less than a SB appearance now makes them look like f*cking idiots, IMO.

Palmer stinks. I wouldn't want him starting if I'm a Skins fan (or any other fan).

Completely agree; well past his best.

They were close to trading to 4 to get AJ Green.

Big move, but from a defense that conceded a huge amount to the Pack, they have to hope Jones cuts out the drops.

Listened to pfw in real time this morning. Not too delighted with the pick as it was a tad dull but probably sound. I guess we will take a pass rusher soon to get an effective player. We probably dont need a quinn if we still want to go outscore people, just someone to help get us off the field every now and then. Then getting the o line sorted will keep Brady in the game. We'll see what they do tonight.

I'd have still said they were raped getting to 4 for Green. Over-reach by a long way and gave up too much for a need they didn't have.

I sort of agree, but once TO and Ocho were taken out of the lineup, he looked like his old self.

He'd be a good move for one of the 2nd round teams who take Mallett. Give him a year to learn behind Palmer and then takeover.

That's what will likely happen with the Jags and Gabbert.

Garrard will play this year and Gabbert will get his backup reps and learn to read NFL defenses.

And if they fall out of contention, then Gabbert gets his chance to impress.

They wanted the extra option. They have White. But they didn't really have anyone opposite. Jenkins is fading. Harry Douglas isn't bad in the slot, but they have no-one else to stretch the D.

Jones does give them a threat for that.

They've got Gonzalez for another year as well to take up the middle of the field.

I really prefer Green though. Absolute stud.

saxoneagle 29-04-2011 02:06 PM

They can trade for/FA a decent second string WR - it's not worth giving up 6 or 7 picks for when you have huge holes on D

Cant argue with that.

Jones and White will be great for Ryan though.

An interesting draft, caught up a bit with this morning. Thanks to Swanny for keeping me posted last night as I was gambling away in a casino in Leeds!

Like the picks of Von Miller, Peterson and AJ Green early on.

Think Falcons gave up way too much for a position that they don't desperately need and isn't probably going to improve them that much.

Think Gabbert was quite a solid pick while Ponder was a strange one.

Hadn't heard much about Watkins, although seems like he was probably the best RT about so might have worked out well. Now wonder what will happen with Kolb, be interested to see if we just trade for a player(s) now rather than draft picks.

Be interesting to see what teams do through the rest of the draft as it's difficult to really evaluate it properly until you see where else teams strengthen and where other players drop to.

Does make me excited for fantasy draft next year though!

saxoneagle 29-04-2011 02:46 PM

Nobody can trade players for draft picks without the CBA in place. Only pick for pick trades allowed, I think.

pauldrulez 29-04-2011 02:50 PM

Is correct.

But, something may happen today and have the season opening. Otherwise, Free Agency and trades will start on Monday.

Pete, what are you looking at for the Pats in the next 2 rounds?

I'm thinking trade down from 33 to early 40s for a team needing a QB and get a 2012 2nd.

Then take Justin Houston or Jabaal Sheard (there's my passrusher, I like Sheard, but not really a fit here)

Then I take Greg Little the WR out of NC State. Or the Center whose name escapes me (3 hours sleep does that to you)

And end the round with DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma. A true Patriots RB.

FWIW, The RB Coach Ivan Fears spoke at Gillette yesterday. He believed Ingram was good because of the scheme. He doesn't like LeShoure, so keep an eye on Ryan Williams, Daniel Thomas and Murray in the next 2 rounds.

Ok I know they might want more picks... But if you want a guy why not pick him rather than wait? It doesn't really make sense to me!

Hopefully, I can make sense here. Let's take the Vikings at #12. They really like Ponder and are willing to take him at #12. But they think that no other team will take him before #28. So the Vikings trade the #12 pick for the #23 pick (let's say) and another 2nd round and 3rd round pick. So they still get Ponder at #23 and get 2 more players on top of it. This is how Bill Walsh built the 49ers.

Oh and Swanny, thanks the Wanker comment on Facebook. went down a treat ...

I'd like Bill to use all three picks pretty much as they are. There must be a D lineman worth the next pick (I haven't really looked at the next "batch") and the value of a late 2nd round RB (like you say is probably worth one of the others.

I think there will be offers of trades to #33 but I suspect the teams that want the next 3/4 QBs will probably realise they can get their man when they want without moving up too far, if at all. Except the Raiders in which case we'll swap our #33 for their second and their first next year ;)

Of the 5 third and fourth rounders we have, I'd hope we pick three somewhere. I don't really mind where, in fact I'd love to cash in on the 33 if we can, but I think we need to get one of the second tier pass rushers (no idea which) and another offensive lineman (maybe that Florida guy, can't remember his name). Finally another running back preferably but that will depends on who they can get at what value.
