Anyone that may be interested, Jersey Joe is doing a half-off sale. I think he ships abroad.

I bought an LT Chargers jersey for 35 dollars! :lux:

WTF! Baseball jerseys are $180 :o

Not letting this thread get any lower. One month until the draft. Patriots podcast reckons they will trade down or just allow their pick to drift so they dont have to pay 7th pick money to whoever they pick. They want Vernon Gholston but will he still be in the draft at 7??

AddiscombeEagle 14-03-2008 09:44 PM

How does the draft work exactly.

Does the player get a set wage dependant on the number he is picked at?

And secondly, can a player turn a team down?

Strathclyde Eagle 14-03-2008 09:59 PM

A player's value is generally calculated by where they're picked and by what other players sign for. Therefore it's a waiting game to see who signs first and for how much.

Teams don't have any alternative regarding who they play for (at least as far as I'm aware). Their best option if they want a better deal is to hold out (ask Philip Rivers how that can work out).

pauldrulez 14-03-2008 11:01 PM

Didnt Eli Manning swap teams during the draft in 2004??

Strathclyde Eagle 15-03-2008 12:20 AM

Said he wouldn't sign in San Diego. The Giants had to give up a lot to get the Chargers to trade the rights to him though.

I have my NFL London tickets :D:D:D

pauldrulez 25-03-2008 10:44 PM

saxoneagle you jammy bastard.

With a month to go, Who does everybody want to draft for their teams? Do you want your team to trade up, trade down, does your team have a draft pick ;).

As a Patriots fan, I am hoping we will trade up for Vernon Gholston as there is a minimal possibility he will be on the board at No.7.
If we trade down I think Leodis McKelvin is a possibility. Ryan Clady and Darren McFadden are another two that I would like the Pats to go for.

The thing I would like most would be the trade-up to Gholston as a player like him only comes along once in a while.

RDSdaEAGLE 25-03-2008 10:55 PM

Silly question - are there currently any British players playing in the NFL?

pauldrulez 25-03-2008 11:01 PM

The kicker for New York Giants is Lawrence Tynes who is originally from Scotland I think.

FFS

I'm sitting in my $75 LT jersey complete with an extra £32 import tax which I had to pay at my doorstep (unbeknown to my when I ordered from NFL.com)

:sob:

Still, with the money LT had made me over the last 3 years (thanks LT for 4TDs v Oakland last autumn, esp the last one) I guess he's paid for it for me.

Strathclyde Eagle 26-03-2008 01:26 AM

I think that's another reason why eBay sellers make themselves popular, marking items as a gift on the customs label.

NFL UK Members got early shots on Club Wembley tickets... 125 quid each but I wasn't going to turn it down.

However, I have to take my missus somewhere for a week beforehand so she'll let me go! I'm hoping Palace are at home on the Saturday too so I can drag her sorry American ass to some "soccer" too :D

Oh, and Gholston for the Pats although I think the Jets will trade up to nick him from us. If not, then we'll trade down to mid-first round and take the best CB/LB available.

saxoneagle 26-03-2008 01:12 PM

PS - I'd bet a fair amount on the Pats NOT trading up - it isn't how the organization works and they won't want to spend big on paying a high draft pick.

pauldrulez 26-03-2008 06:52 PM

But the insiders from the Patriots think that Gholston is an excellent pick and is someone who reminds them of Mike Vrabel. This could mean that the Pats will go for him and he has visited the Patriots in the last week.

nookiebear 26-03-2008 06:58 PM

Skins want a big wide receiver in the draft for the West Coast offense - who's any good?

pauldrulez 26-03-2008 07:23 PM

Malcolm Kelly from Oklahoma? is one option.
I think that the Skins may go for Phillip Merling who is a DE from Clemson. As a replacement for Sean Taylor RIP.

Other WRs include:
James Hardy,
Devin Thomas,
Limas Sweed.

Of the other options Limas Sweed is probably the most likely.

True, plus they're good at finding pieces that fit lower down.

BTW, how is a DE a replacement for a FS?

pauldrulez 26-03-2008 09:22 PM

tbh re: Sean Taylor it was just a quote from a Redskins site :D The WRs I knew but that was a name that popped up. I think it was more about the amount of sacks made but I dont know tbh.

NFL.com think that both the Patriots and the Jets will trade up for Gholston. I predicted the Pats would go for him about a month ago on this very forum.
