You see, this is where I have changed and mellowed.

There was a time when such instances would irritate me. Up there with slobs letting their kids run around, nearly crashing head first into your basket, cocooned couples thinking that the supermarker only belongs to them, or even the finding the perfect quick cashier only for the single custome in front to have a 'major' issue with their feckin clubcard points.

For the most part, I let all of this slide these days.

In fact there has been a reversal in my relationship, and I was discussing this with the missus last week. When I first came to Chile, all of Chile's annoyances would me up a treat, and my wife pleaded for my patience. Now it is very much the reverse, and it's the missus who has no patience despite the truckloads of weed she seems to consume.

You haven't mellowed much on here though, I see. Even taking your hatred (JBG) into the Computer forum.

I'm with you Peter, although to be frank, despite my rather excessive post count on this thread, there is very little that actually annoys me in life to the point of seeing a red mist. Not now or ever has been... I'm very much in the "let the shit fly by" camp.

Most of my posts on here are basically tongue in cheek, or observations of things that maybe have me shaking my head or rolling my eyes, but annoyance might be an over statement.

Having said that, there are probably 3 things that come close to breaking my spirit:

1) Donald Trump and Trumplicans. Note: I'm actually OK with your basic Republican of old

2) People coming to my door selling stuff. Just **** off!

3) The whole process of getting through an airport, both coming and going. I guess I don't do it enough for it to be not bother me - but it just does.

I don't even remember that and can't find it. Perhaps you are using JBG's definition of hatred.

That's a touch disappointing Maz. You can do better than that.

Top Tip. The BBS doesn't reflect real life.

Everything online has to have an increasingly complicated access and password these days. For example to order what should be a simple Zizzis pizza collection is as complicated as hacking into fault knox. You must have a password 'atleast 8 characters containing atleast one non-alpha numeric character and one numeric character' - oh and it must be one that you will never ever remember..therefore having to go through the whole humiliation of the 'forgotten password' issue when you do get tempted to order a pizza once every month..its crazy

People who squat on the street outside buildings whilst waiting for something or having a cigarette, like Bielsa did during games, it’s weird and the majority of people who do it look deranged.

I’ve started to see younger people do it now also, I guess it might be good for your muscles but you look like a right crack head!

Funny you should say that....T'other day I was leaving the eatery I always get my lunch and there was a squatter on his haunches across the road from me. A bit head in handsy or looking at his phone. I couldn't work out if it was some druggy or alcho having a breakdown or someone just going about their normal business.

I concur. It was a bit freaky.

A treasure trove here

1. This machine does not give change’

2. ‘This machine charges for withdrawals’

3. ‘Unexpected item in bagging area’

4. ‘Using your own bag? Place in bagging area. An assistant is coming’

5. ‘Your call is important to us’

6. ‘Password not recognised/new password must not be same as old password’

7. ‘Sorry we missed you’

8. ‘We are experiencing an unexpectedly high volume of calls’

9. ‘Please listen to the following options…’ (none of which involve speaking to a human)

10. ‘Our live chat digital assistant will respond to you shortly…’

11. ‘You are caller number… 83… in the queue’

12. ‘We are now closed, our opening hours are between 8am and 5pm’ (you’re calling at 4.30pm)

13. ‘Your delivery slot is between 5am and 11pm’

14. ‘Item dispatched -> Item on the way -> Your delivery is next -> Delivery attempted -> Item lost’

15. ‘Your parcel is with a neighbour’

16. ‘Join our free Wi-Fi!’ (simply complete this form with all your personal information including full address and shoe size)

17. ‘Download our menu using the QR code’

18. ‘Good news! We’ll auto renew your policy so you don’t have to do a thing!’ (btw it’s double the price now)

19. ‘When red light shows wait here’ (the roadworks finished a week ago)

20. Any smart motorway signs going from 70mph to 40 to 60 to 50 seemingly at random

21. ‘Changes to your monthly bill’ (it’s never lower, is it?)

The list has a couple of crackerjacks, and TBF you have done us a service of saving us some time. Just about all of them are related to the simple idea that for most big companies there is a disparity between the strategic benefits of automating/outsourcing customer service and what the term customer service should mean for the clients.

Thus a 21 point internet list can be narrowed down to...

1.

Full disclosure: After doing a Live Chat thing today explaining the problem they are sending me a replacement. They didn't seem to be too fussed about going through a whole battery of re-setting or re-booting etc... pretty much took my word for it - They don't even want the old one back. I suspect it is a known problem.

A follow-up... and this is not an annoyance or a moan, or an eye roll or a head shake.

I got the replacement Fitbit in the mail today, and that was all they sent. No strap, no charger, no instructions, just the watch in a padded envelope.

Seems pretty sensible on their part. Something tells me they are sending a lot of these replacements out, and there really is no need for all the extras, just the watch.

Just a bit surprised really... not what I was expecting. :)

PeterH 01-07-2023 03:59 AM

My missus is not enamoured with our sarcasm/black humour. It has been mentioned when we are entertaining other mixed relationships.

The best/worst is being among people that are seemingly only sarcastic here (shall we say, catty). When you give them a taste back (as in, oh we are bantering, are we), they get offended quickly.

That usually leads to the little conversation with the wife at lights out time....'Why did you...'. Rather than having my balls shrink, I now respond with 'Oh. Fucj Off'.

Maybe, it's the passage of time, or her exposure to UK TV, but she gets it a lot more these days.

ozzieEagle 01-07-2023 04:43 AM

Lol, I think it's the reverse situation with Aussies.

I'm still reeling from my missus first encounter at my old ship brokers end of year dinner dance at a Mayfair club 40 odd years back. 'This is a load of f...ing bullshit' I didn't know where to look.

A Brexit benefit , innit. The St Pancras terminus ( like some of its European counterparts), was not designed for the border controls ( which leads to longer queuing times ), this heap of shit government has imposed on us. This has led to a forced reduction in services and less wiggle room should something go wrong and increased times resolving any such problem.

Wife paying out 700 to have air con installed...and then not using it because it will use too much electric. Then wife paying out several grand to have solar installed and still not using the air conditioning because the ceiling fan is good enough.....

700 euros is well cheap for a/c. We have six machines, replacing half of them a couple of years ago cost us four grand.
Electricity is very inexpensive right now, and if you have solar that is truly bananas.

Office workplace buzzwords, jargon and phrases have often been mentioned on here.

This article takes a look at some of the current irritants.

https://www.indy100.com/lifestyle/an...als-2662116837

I guess the writer missed the irony of 'by Gen Z and Millennials' in their own title. Terms which may well be more irritating than the whole list of examples quoted.

ozzieEagle 02-07-2023 09:02 AM

I haven't worked for the best part of 51 years to not have Air Con or Heating on whenever I want it, whatever it costs.

Actually what really annoys me, is the fact I was stupid, lazy or just plain lacked enough confidence to subject myself to the last 20 plus years of working life to permanent night shift. Now I want frigging good times.

I'm actually spewing at the waste actually more like the destruction of my social life during the middle of the week. It was seriously like being in jail. A total waste of 20 years.

adrenalin john 02-07-2023 09:24 AM

Ozzie that is deeply sad to read.

You sacrificed a lot for your family, maybe now is the time to find the confidence to inform your family that given they are adults they need to look after ther own shit for a couple of years and go back on the road. Time is finite

Thanks for the good thoughts. I doubt the Wife would come even if I did insist on 'our' time. Wouldn't fancy traveling on my own. There's a series of court cases in the next 2 months. So hopefully we will be clearer on how the future is going to look re access and property. It should all be coming to a head soon.

PeterH 03-07-2023 05:19 AM

The best solution would be for Ozzie and Adrenalin to go backpacking/slumming together in Thailand, Vietnam, Bali etc..

They start at about 950AUD (580 Euro) for a 3kwh up to 2500 Aud (1550Euro) for a 9kwh System. At least 350 bucks (220 euro) for installation.

Just room size, we have six indoor units. They are pretty posh units and it's a longish way to the big outdoor units, given I live on the first floor of a five storey building and the out door units are on the roof.
Four grand was to replace three indoor units and one of the big ones on the roof.

There's a big difference in price depending on size and capacity. Seems like the labour costs in Spain are minuscule compared to here. I dont have wifi on my 9 year old units.

8/9 kwh Samsung here 2200 dollars

Of course I used to splash on "Old Spice", probably in the days when I used Brylcreem.
Just about to travel to 'East Surrey Hospital'.

Odour of death.

I can't remember whether this is an urban myth, something mentioned on the BBS, or someone at the gym told me this first hand back in the day.

I will go with the latter - but it might be one of the former...

There was a guy at the gym I used to go to in Thornton Heath that made pornos. His area was youngish buck servicing the grannies. He said the worst part of the job was that you could smell the death on them.

That's Trolley, that is.

Is that something that annoys you or a suggestion of what Trolley uses?
