Grown men who give anything more than two instructions to their barber.
"2 on the sides, short on top"
"buzzcut"
"bit off the top, and tidy up the rest" etc
Actually, I'll compromise at three instructions, as long as one of the is the answer to "straight or natural at the back"
I've just had my haircut and the number of 30something men reading off the directions on how to cut their hair like it was a f**king shopping list. I swear, one bloke was at it for 5 minutes.
"fade here, but longer here and do this to this but do this bit different, and i want a step here, but fade the step here and do this to the top but i want a tramline here and can you shave a bit out at the front so it looks like so and so, and etc.
Utter c*nts.

Before I decided to grow my beard a bit longer my barber used to call me “half all over“.
Put the .5 comb on the clippers then head, eyebrows and beard all done in one go.

Since lockdown I've given up with barbers. Just give myself a number 3 all over every six weeks.

My last trip to the barbers was such a disaster I got drunk and shaved it all off. Going to keep it that way now.

What they don't realize is that the difference between a good (expensive) hair cut and a shite (cheap) haircut is two weeks.

My hairdresser moved so I had to find a new one. Peered in a few shop windows and seemingly every barber is now a Turk.

Picked one that looked reasonable and was asked what number did I want. You what! 'I have no idea what you are talking about. I just want a trim'. Ended up going for the highest number so that I could work downwards. It was also a bloody razor cut.

I have since found a new one with older guys who understand how to use scissors.

All these white middle-aged men getting gigs taking train journeys across the world paid for by TV companies - first it was Portillo, then Tarrant, i'm sure Rhys-Jones has done one and now Knowles.
They don't even try to make them different, putting their own spin on the subject.

Charity shops are a gold mine for me.

Last time back I had the misfortune of spending a few hours in Bexhill. The high street had become almost just a line of charity shops.

I picked up way too many books. So many, I had to leave some at my brother's for return travel weight restrictions.

Pineapple in Dhansak curries.

I have no idea if this is normal and expected and that every place I frequented before moving to the Midlands had it wrong, but I do not expect to bite into a gammon garnish and I'm always a bit cross that I didn't spot it in the transfer from tray to plate.

Worse than that is the number of people who bought dogs during the pandemic because they thought it would be a "good idea" and as normality was restored, ending up dumping the poor animal at a rescue centre because having a dog interferes with their lifestyle.

I really enjoy them, gives me plenty of ideas, most of which sadly never come to fruition. My only gripe is that I wished they spent more time on the actual journey. The ones narrated by Bill Nighy are excellent. For those who don't like them, other channels are available.

Yes. Without going all JFK, a person shouldn’t ask what a dog can do for them, but what they can do for a dog. There’s so many Wankers who buy one despite having insufficient living space or free time to properly take care of them.

LOL.

I have about 10 articles saved about different train journeys, European sleeper train etc.. Add in another 20 about places to visit in The UK, Ireland and Europe.

If I ever get around to doing 5 of them, that will be an achievement.

More likely that I'll end up drinking 10 pints around match day, having a staggering tour of Selhurst's pubs, and walking down Portland Road stuffing pie and chips in my gob.

Good point. I assume Portaloo hasn't got a scooby about what his travel costs, even in this country. He is always waving a ticket about. Did he actually pay for it? And you never see him taking the replacement bus service.

With the final season due, we decided to rewatch from Season 1 (been years since we last saw them). We had got up to Season 6. Today we settled down to watch the next installment to find the final season - 9 - had dropped, but at the expense of Seasons 1 thru 7.

That's ridiculous.

They've had that show on their headlines for months. I guess ITV are screwing them on cost.

What's the point of that for new clients coming on?

'Hey subscibers you can watch the last two series without seeing what went on before'

'Err, yeah. I won't bother thanks.'

I remember Netflix here having series 3 and onwards of Line of Duty. I watched them in some kinda Star Wars order. Maybe the missing series weren't subtitled.

No help to you, but I'm up to date on Endeavour with just the last to watch.

For the life of me I cannot understand why the bloody things were invented in the first place?

I was working on site out leafy Stanmore way, many moons ago, and a gardening contractor turned up with a young labourer who was given the job of clearing a large communal are with a blower.

So without taking in to account that he was working against the breeze, out come a big pair of ear defenders and head down he gets to work, not bothering to look up at any point. This was a shame for him, because had he taken the time to, he would have realised that 80% of the leaves he was trying to round up were lifting up in the wind and dropping to the ground behind him.

We did offer to wheel our big compressor out to give him a hand, but his boss wasn't too keen on the idea. :D

Road closures. I totally understand road maintenance on motorways needs to be done and doing overnight makes the most sense, but at least think about what you are doing. Coming back to London on the M3 last night, firstly we had a closure and diversion around Winchester, OK not ideal but the route wasn't too bad and we were back on the motorway a couple of junctions up. The without warning another one, no idea where I was but the diversion was terrible and we ended up on the M4.

I was so pissed off a few days ago. Driving back to my tiny village I came upon a ‘road ahead closed’ sign about a mile out. Thinking through the route, I knew there would be no alternative ahead so I went back and drove 4 miles down a single track lane that bypassed my village but meant I could come in from the opposite direction. I found that the closure was a 15 metre stretch of road in the village that could be bypassed simply by the loop around the village green. I wouldn’t even have reached it if I had continued on my original route. To add insult to injury, although there was plant in the road, there was not a single contractor there so I couldn’t even vent my spleen.

I just tried to renew my travel insurance. Up 25%
I had waited until a day or so before the renewal date and by an absolute stroke of fortune I got some junk mail from the same firm with a 20% discount code
This lesson being, don't sign up for the automatic renewal option because they will stiff you with the big price increases. Wait until close to the renewal date and by then hopefully you will receive an email or postal discount offer.
The downside is that you cannot simply renew on the same terms as last time (unlike the auto renewal customers), you have to go through their interminable list of questions all over again but as you are saving a lot, it is worth it.
In fact it is a good rule of thumb for almost any annual contract - do not sign up for auto renewal, as they will stiff you with a big increase. There is no discounts for loyalty by insurance co's.

We are getting around to planning the team Christmas lunch. After last year's £75 a head plus drinks in the West End I'm not up for that. Anyway, we seem to have found one at £45 and another at £35 for a set two course lunch.

I expect we'll end up in Pizza Express as normal.

and what has annoyed you about this?

CT_Palace 05-10-2023 05:53 PM

when your mouth decides to malfunction and for some reason you bite your inner cheek while eating something. As if it's not painful enough, the subsequent swelling means that you re-bite the same spot.

4 effin bites over 2 days so far :veryangry

Odds on to get a massive mouth ulcer too :(

Had that about a month ago, you do stop but look a bit of a dick sat there chewing really slowly so you don't bite the same spot again

And knowing that the slightest hint of HP sauce, vinegar or salt near the spot will send you into a an instant impersonation of Neymar.

I share your pain (well I don’t but you know what I mean). I’ve found that rinsing with salt water helps assist healing without further complications. So much, in fact, that I keep a bottle of the stuff in the bathroom and use it every time I brush my teeth.

Reading these news reports that parish and freedman and considering this and that player following eze injury. Not like they can do anything as window doesn't open until.jan when these players will return and the normal statement will be, its like having new players

I bit my tongue once and my friend thought I was launching into a Kenneth Williams impression.

Arteta and Guardiola permanently out of their areas, even encroaching onto the pitch. Happens every week and no sanction. Wont be long before Arterta handballs a pass down the line

Was just going to post about Arteta. He was remonstrating to the ref that an opponent throw in was not taken from where it should be. Perhaps he should consider where he stands illegally ALL THE TIME.

Also, his extremely tight grey trousers annoy me, for some reason.

Joe85 10-10-2023 01:39 AM

Got twated off my bike by some youngster changing lanes without looking. All low speed, with minor damage, although I did take 1.5t lump of metal and plastic to the ribs.

It’s been healing nicely over the last few days. Stupidly I went to gym this evening and tried to use the bench press.

As I took the weight of the bar above my chest, I felt a sharp pain and what felt like my rib cracking. Oops.

Joe85 10-10-2023 01:43 AM

Oh, and totally borked my left (writing) hand, which has pretty much crippled my note taking at uni.

Excellent.

Arteta and managers like him really piss me off as they micro manage their players during the game. I am okay those who shout out instructions or encouragement but he is following every play and gesturing to the player with the ball as what to do. Let the players think for themselves....

It must put the player off when he's ready to pass to someone and his manager is screaming at him to give it to someone else. When Bilic was in charge at West Ham he was terrible for that.

This pisses me off even at grass roots level. There are some teams we (my son's U15s team) play against where the coach effectively gives a running commentary: "Can we switch it?" "Play it inside..." "Can we find Sammy?" etc.

JJ 10-10-2023 04:50 AM

I find it intensely annoying that I just received an email from Ticketmaster saying my Gold Membership card is ready for downloading into my Google Wallet, only to click on the card from my Member site in the Palace App for it to tell me "ERROR: Member is not active."

I'm guessing they're not referring to my sedentary lifestyle.

Lakeside HHH Glazier 10-10-2023 05:08 AM

Me too ... probably not a great issue in my case given where I live these days but still ....

JJ 10-10-2023 06:05 AM

Is an issue for me, because I'll be going to SP when over there at the end of the month and intend to spend money! I've emailed the Box Office, we'll see what they say.

Lakeside HHH Glazier 10-10-2023 07:19 AM

And the way he drops the ball just as the player is about to take it from him, so petty and unsporting. Again not a good example to grass roots

Its awlays the other dicks that you have to watch out for when riding. What with this and the snow you have had a few bounces recently. Hope it all fixes up soon.

The Box Office have already sorted it out for me, super quick! They re-sent my pass which I was now able to download first attempt into Google Wallet.

As it happens the loyalty points on both my and my son's cards are showing as incorrect (too low), however I queried that too, the BO came back to me straight away and said they'd corrected it at their end. It takes a day or two for the Google Wallet cards to be updated, so I'll keep checking that happens.

But like I said, really quick and helpful responses from the BO - very happy with that! Great job, Box Office! :)

Holly Willoughby’s resignation being deemed to be important enough that Mark Austin, reporting on the crisis in Israel/Palestine live from Jerusalem, included news of said resignation in his report. Just ridiculous.

The tax office

I sent in an amendment to my18-19 tax year on Nov 22

The deadline was April 23

They didn’t get round to dealing with it until now which is past the deadline

So they suggest we use overpayment relief instead

Load more paperwork put together

“We cannot accept claims for overpayment made on self assessment “

Wtf ? They are literally are saying we can’t pay you back because we were too slow !!!

There was an article Mrs Biggus sent me last week about the problems at HMRC, it is sounds horrendous.

Isle of Wight 13-10-2023 06:38 PM

It is. To add insult to injury I was pressing one for this and 2 for that for about 20 mins, then on hold for another 10 when a voice delightedly told me “the office is now closed please call again”:wallbash:

I posted this on this very thread about 3 weeks ago….

******* useless *****

The HMRC complaints person called me earlier this week (a week later than she promised to) to tell me that she had mailed the correct internal people within HMRC & she ‘should have an answer within 30 days’.

Later that day, I posted my query in the chat forum of Martin Lewis’s Money Saving Expert website. One hour & two minutes later, three posters had replied, completely understanding my query & confirming that what I was proposing to do with my ISA was within HMRC rules.

They could be three random, lying people from anywhere but I’m absolutely inclined to believe them rather than anything that HMRC might (or might not) finally advise.
