The majority of studies and depression/suicide rates show it is men who suffer from being single more than women.

To my mind, I think it depends entirely on the individual and their circumstances. I have been very happy in relationships and utterly miserable. The only times I have been utterly miserable single is when I was 'mourning' a previous relationship, but aside from that am generally happier single - or at least not in an exclusive relationship

I have professional dealings with the Office of the Children's Commissioner (and the Commissioner herself). I was a big fan on the previous Commissioner, and was quite worried when Rachel was appointed, but actually I've been impressed with her. And I think it's great she's gone public on this.

Thanks, and agree with her concerns. We are in the danger of following suit with US where kids are caged etc. and this should be avoided.

Quite - it's almost as if the subject of happiness , depression and suicide are really complex and not something as simply defined as you're relationship status.

I have a clinical depressive disorder and if I'm honest, I have no idea as to its cause. I know a few triggers, and the therapy that worked for me, wasn't focused on why, but on learning defence mechanisms.
