What's the plan B if Kane is markes out of the game? What's the plan if we meet a side in the latter stages that wants us to have the ball and can actually Hurt us when we lose it?

I'm just not sure there's an identity still.

I think we look much more threatening with Bellingham behind Kane - imo that takes us from contenders to close favourites next summer.

The only thing he does that I’m less keen on is the two holding midfielders. I get the why we might need that against France but I wouldn’t play it against anyone else.

Spot on.

We’ve got no divine right to win anything but I think we’re in good shape to go close next summer.

I’m perfectly fine. I’m enjoying watching England these days and am pleased with what we’re doing. I feel proud of the team and think we are one of the best sides in the world now. I’m not bored of Southgate personally but as I say, each to their own.

I had to explain what fickle meant to a bloke who works with me. I read out a few posts from here, and he asked me how many we had lost by?

When I told him we had not lost a game, had beaten Italy twice, finished top in our group and qualified, and we had got the closest we ever have since 1966, he just laughed.

I can only imagine the pressure from the clubs not to play their best players when we have already qualified. Tonight's game was a prime example of a pub league game, including the ref who played a big part in destroying any hope of a competitive game.

I didn’t enjoy the loss to Italy. Or Luka Modric winning a ballon d’or for humiliating us.

This team is far too good for Southgate. A travesty, really.

Southgate has done an awful lot of good. Prior to him England was a disparate group of individuals many of whom saw playing for England as a negative and went into their shells.

Southgate has been brilliant at instilling and fostering a club mentality. Team England is clearly a cohesive group and the seeming insurmountable fear factor has gone, that is a great acheievment.

Southgate also recognises he has very little time with the players and has therefore settled on a system they know how to play.

His approach has been thorough and though through.

The issue is that he is a defensive minded coach and has set a defensive system. England strengths rest not with Harry Maguire but with our vast array of attacking talent. We set a system to defend deep with two defensive midfielders to protect Maguires lack of pace and mobility. So when we have the likes of Foden, Grealish, Maddison, Eze, Palmer, Saka, Rashford, Bellingham etc we play 38 year old Saudi pop bar league Henderson and Citeh no show fat boy Philips.

Understandable but frustrating because we are not getting the best out of the oustanding creativity behind the world's best finisher, Harry Kane.

And ultimately it fails because even prioritising defence we aren't good enough to shut out the likes of France while we blunt our attack.

Certain players are becoming irritating like Rashford. £300k p/w from the wankers and his MBE seems to result in him not being arsed and he's not the only one.

Maybe, likelihood is that Euro 24 will be his last tournament.

But tell me how many just semi finals have Revie, Greenwood, Taylor, Hoddle, Keegan, Sven, McClaren Cappello and Roy got us to ?

Robson and Venables managed it only once each.

Southgate has got us to a Final and Semi Final, and that's will him having an undistinguished Domestic Managerial record beforehand, unlike most of the names above.

Yes, 2 fairly poor performances, in fairly meaningless games, but give the bloke a break !!

Didn’t see the whole game but from what I did we were really poor with no cutting edge and couldn’t work out how we were trying to break them down. Just seemed slow ponderous possession with a lack of creativity.

Whilst Lewis was unlucky if you jump and your arm is out and you catch someone that is often given as a foul elsewhere on the pitch. Soft and yellow is very harsh but you have seen those given as fouls. The big decision was not giving the one against Maguire. Tries to stop, gets stuck in the turf and just bowls their player over in the box. That was far more a pen.
