Kouyate was a big miss. In his absence Brighton poured forward without much opposition. There has been a lot of talk about Eze and Olise being handfuls for opposing defences but playing both of them left the wings exposed defensively. And I know he scored, but I thought Brighton nullified Gallagher - there was always someone on him the second he got the ball. Let's hope no other clubs' coaches noticed.

At the moment eze and olise should not both be starting together as neither do enough cover for the full backs
Compare with Townsend and see the difference in mitchell |

Fact is that we have our 2 starting wingers at Afcon so we are down to who is available to play wide. If Shlupp had started wide and Luka in the middle then we would have had no decent subs for the midfield as 2 of our midfield starters are unavailable. The missing players are naturally having an impact on the team and without those 4 players the squad depth is very weak and our starting 11 is seriously down graded. Given all that and BHA form this season, a point last night is a very good one.

just hoping macarthur is back for next game or luka can raise his game whilst we have the afcon problem, then olise and eze could share one place in the team over 90 minutes
we missed kouyate and ayew last night at least as much as zaha olize and eze are obviously exciting talents but they are young and inexperienced at the moment |

Could have played Schlupp on the left and Luka in midfield. Although I accept it’s very hard to start the paceless Luka. Or played Benteke central and Edouard left. Eze looks a fair way off full recovery. It would be intriguing to see Olise in a central role.

Looking forward to Potter leaving them. He is destined for much better things. Although as is it is Brighton a role in any other club would be progression for him

That’s Exactly my thoughts wardy and Mitchell are not getting enough cover from these two

They're a few expensive players away from being as good as West Ham, who aren't a top 6 side, they just finished there once, and it's fairly unlikely to happen again with a thin squad and the Europa league knockouts. They're about eight players away from having a starting 11 as good as Spurs, Arsenal or the wankers. Last edited by CP-RJW; 15-01-2022 at 11:11 AM. |

I agree - they are at risk against us if we play well. But under usual circumstances we would view it as a free hit - and they still have Firmino & Jota.

Absolutely, I'd play Liverpool without Zaha, Kouyate and Ayew every time if it meant no Salah and Mane.

Agreed. The mostly likely result is still a loss, Jota, Minamino and Firmino are nothing to laugh at in attack, and there's obviously serious quality behind them. But it's not a typical Liverpool game, it's more on the Tottenham or Man United difficulty level.

See Eze is coming in for a bit of stick on here. I actually think he can play in the same team as Olise but depends where he plays and last night I think he was in the wrong position.
When Wilf and Ayew play they are part of the forward 3 and as Wilf and Ayew are the wider 2 it's them who covers the FBs time after time. Eze just isn't that type of player. He likes to be on the ball and we've seen his quality on it, vision and range of passing when on song. I think Eze should've been central with Connor and Schlupp wide left who would've given you more natural FB cover. When Connor goes back I think Eze could fill that role by popping up in the box late on.

Admittedly it's not ideal against such opposition but it gives EE & MO a chance and of course valuable experience.
