Crashed on the sofa I accidentally watched Taking Chance today. Kevin Bacon plays a deskbound marine officer escorting home the casket of another dead marine from Iraq. Really moving, beautifully made. No glorification or schmaltz. True story and totally unexpected waterworks on a Wednesday.

The Nightingale. (18)
Not one for Sunday afternoon with the family. Thankfully I watched it on my own. Tempted to switch it off after 15 mins, but watched it to the end. Puts taking the knee into context if historically correct. 7/10

Storm Fear(1955)
A seasonal, snowbound noir with little good cheer. Watchable enough, well acted, especially noir icon Dan Duryea. Starring and directed by Cornel Wilde, there’s a supporting role from Dennis Weaver ( aka McCloud). 6.5/10 ( YouTube)

Decided to exercise my brain and finally watched Primer today.
After also watching the 25 minute explainer YouTube vid afterwards I’ve concluded that it’s too clever for me. I may watch it one more time tho to see if more falls into place second time around... ![]()

No Time To Die - a bit meh a few nods to old Bond Movies. How they start with a new Bond will be interesting may be a Bobby Ewing moment

Inside Out(2015)
An amusing, imaginative animation with heart warming moments. Amy Poehler is perfect casting as Joy. 7.5/10 (BBC1)

Read also, Robert Hughes The Fatal Shore. Read if you are of sound and open constitution. No cancel culture re details of our forebears settling of early Australia. Including our genocide of Tasmanian indigenous people’s, all dead within 60 years of colonisation. Happy new year! |

Spider-Man Far From Home (2019)
An exciting, imaginative 2nd outing for Tom Holland in the title role also helped by the presence of Jake Gyllenhaal & Samuel L Jackson. 7.5/10 ( I Player)
