I feel sorry for the Box Office staff who will have to deal with this situation on a matchday.

A very late communication to announce this change and it could be seen to be alienating supporters who don't own Smartphones and against an inclusive football club culture.

I wonder what's caused the delay in getting them out. Probably supply chain issues due to brexit......

The box office said they'd be sending out season tickets imminently, but that in the meantime, if necessary, e-tickets would be used for the Brentford game.

Purely from a 'customer experience' (yuk) point of view, this is dogshit on so many levels. I'm 33, have a smartphone, so this shouldn't impact me. Equally, I would still rather use my season ticket card - that won't run out of battery. Straight away, there is a minimal but negative impact on my experience there - why would the club want this? I'm happy to use my old card, so I don't see how the club are gaining from all of this.

As for the impact on our older fans - this is total wank and difficult to defend the club. It it also pretty shit of them to effectively lie and blame the Premier League for all of this.

Not everyone has a printer. We didn't until the children were home schooling. Neither my brother or dad have smartphones or printers. Dad is rarely online. This decision stinks and there is no need (other than aggressive marketing). As I bet the next step is ticketing via the app.

I disagree. This is a one-off. People will cope. You'll be able to use your printer to sort your dad and brother, for example.

Palace can easily save face on this:

- existing card holders in the same seat keep using their old one, or have the option of using smartphone

- people who have lost their old card pay a replacement card fee (as was always the case)

- new season ticket holders have a choice of smartphone or card

- from now on, all new season ticket purchasers are told it's £5 if you want a plastic card rather than use a smartphone

- Palace admit that them not being able to allow use of cards is not a "Premier League requirement"

I don't have any problem with them introducing digital tickets, but they should keep the ST cards or at least send out paper tickets for those who don't have (or don't want to use) a smartphone.

Classic case of trying to fix something which isn't broken and making the situation ten times more complicated for no reason.
