Throw in our style of play, Roberts and Vieira, and it doesn't seem so proposterous that he comes to us.

Not an unreasonable assessment.

Could have done with him tonight. Needed someone to just put foot on the ball and actually pick a pass out

Our ball retention was awful all game. Need some composure and experience in midfield.

Could've done with some more pressing and better hold up play up front too. Enter Lewis Grabban.

Ramsay is a great player and would no doubt improve us as a team but I sincerely hope the lack of a holding midfielder tonight doesn't lead us to start chasing more players who aren't holding midfielders, playing them as holding midfielders & then complaining when they aren't holding midfielders.

Even if we get Ramsey, and he plays well for us, is it worth it for a player who will be gone next year? Then we're right back to looking for a replacement again. I'd rather take a chance on someone who could play for us in the future.

If we were in the relegation zone, I could understand the desperation to get a short term good player in, but since we're doing ok with many players out, I'm not sure why we need a 4 month rental player.

Exactly. What has Gallagher done for us over four months?

Gallagher has been a huge part of getting us to our current place of relative safety. He will play for us for 10 months, then he'll be gone, and we'll have to replace him.

What's the point in bringing in a player for the last 4 months, who will also be gone at end of the season? Especially given our other starting midfielder is JM, who is on the downside of his career, and will need replacing in the near future?

I'd rather take a chance on a midfielder who might be a replacement for Gallagher next season. We're at the point where we have to think about the future.

4 months allows us to get to another transfer window and make the right purchase.

Mateta allowed us time to get Edouard, rather than panic on a player and over spend. Better value happens in the summer than during the January Window.

I always say a season is a long time in football, in the regard to a loan. If a player improves us for a season it is always worth it. Lombardo was here for two seasons and he has gone down in folklore. Therefore half a season is equally important. A manager could get sacked with a run of 5 games, if you would ask them if they could have a player to improve just 5 games, you would know their answer. Previously when the window was open till March clubs would buy/loan players to help their championship bids or relegation fight. Kenny Brown/Terry Phelan anyone?

4 months is a reasonable amount of time with football, it buys time to make the right moves in the summer and every player has to be replaced at some point, sometimes it is good to delay when that point happens for when a player is reaching the end of their contract. Who knows we may have signed Mateta on a 18 month knowing that Nketetia comes to then end of his contract at the same time and we can make a decision between the two of them and others. Make the move earlier and we have less leverage.

Q What’s the point of a 4 month loan?

He started 9 of his 10 games for us, and both his goals were in games he started

I see he has recently been announced as head of coaching for the 9-14 age groups at wham

Would definitely be keen to sign him if we could, so often we've missed that little bit of quality in the midfield, and he's obviously a top player. Yes we're looking to sign more young players, but our starting X1 against BHA in terms of age was

28
32
25
21
22
29
26
20
23
23

granted the players unavailable are our older players, but still it's all of a sudden quite a young side we have, and a bit of experience and knowhow would be no bad thing.

A lot of people seem to ignore this. Our average age last night was around 24 with 7 players who have a season and a half or less of PL experience. The players missing are vastly more experienced, and quite a bit older - yet still Brighton couldn’t beat us. Put a seasoned, high quality DM in there and things would move forward dramatically.

Kenny Brown!!!!! What a loan signing he was.

One of my earliest Palace memories.

The great Brian Moore commentating. Shame we lost that day and then got done by Claridge’s shin!
