Balogun from arsenal on loan to Rennes is the sort of striker we need.

I think that we need to spot them before it’s obvious to everyone though don’t we? We don’t compete financially and unless you mean that we need the next one of these, then I can’t see us offering half of what would be needed to secure him.

So we clearly can spot them it's whether they are actually a good fit for us and are even ready for it when we get them.

Sorloth is a funny one. I think this is his 4th season away from us? and he has blown hot and cold but seems on track now at 27 in his second season at Real Soc. Sorloth arrived 6 years ago now. Paying us much as we did set expectations high and we can’t afford to spend that much and not use them. Sad but true. Luckily we got our cash back. Spotting the talent is one thing but then having time and strength around them is another. Occasionally they will arrive and be so good they can hold down a place from day one but that’s rarely a secret and prices rise out of our reach. Today we are looking at two 25 year olds in their second full seasons. After a Manager has been in place for a month it will be interesting to see how things look with the same squad. Tough gig for anyone. We have some of the bits for several jigsaws but can we actually complete one that can get the points needed. I suspect that whoever arrives will need to turn to ‘some’ older heads.

1. He’d been playing every game in Ligue 1 so wouldn’t have that 2. He’d have gone to a bigger club to sit on the bench if that’s our plan. That’s the thing we can offer over a Spurs etc 3. We already make a loss and you want us to have £25m players on the bench 4. When will a youth lad ever get a chance even if we could finance this model? (We can’t) 5. Then when the first 11 guy leaves after year 1 people say we need another big spend

They have Jesus, Nketiah, and now with Trossard allowing Martinelli to go up there, or switch, they are well covered |

A mate of mine from Argentina who is somewhat connected to Boca Juniors, reckons there is genuine interest from us RE: Retegui.
No idea if true, but he’s good mates with all the South American players at Brighton and tried to recommend him to them, but seems to think we’ll get him via Tigres. Could be total bollocks, however. |

I read the thread title as upgrade on Mateta
That’s like starting a thread with better Sunday roast than a pepperami |

We've been linked with Celtic's Kyogo a few times and this is a good video highlighting his excellent movement.
To view the link you have to Register or Login Obviously the defending he's facing in Scotland isn't close to EPL, but I do think with the right service he would score goals at this level. |

The Japanese player I like the look of, and one we could probably get, is their right back, Yukinara Sugarawa. Plays in the Eredivisie so a bit risky but he's fast, technically very good offensively and would give us the natural width we lack with inverted wingers up top. Defensively, I'm not sure how he would hold up in the PL, but he certainly has the pace and the brain.
£6m on Transfermarkd so would probably go for between £9m and £12m I'd guess.

Certainly not suggesting this as an upgrade on Mateta, but more of a young signing with potential.
Miles Leaburn from Charlton? They rate him very highly. |

He certainly looks like he’s got potential, tall, quick and seems to be a good finisher. We were reported to be interested in him earlier in the season I think. |

If either Edouard or JP do well for the rest of the season, I could see us investing in a youngster like Leaburn. If not, we'll probably go for someone with more experience.

The one type of player we don't have an outstanding talent at in the u21s is striker. The 2 who moved up from the u18s this season are excellent prospects but they are 18 and 19. JRS and JKG are both more wide players than typical CF, so it would makes sense to.bring in a young striker.

What would be great would be to have a 20/21 year old out on loan at a Championship team next season and doing well. Everton have Ellis Simms who is 22 and had a decent half season at Sunderland with 7 goals and now has 1 in the PL after returning to Everton.
