Not contentious - but, no I don't think that's the main reason certain people don't post anything of note on here any more. Its possible of course that those who PM'd me (and me) are the only ones with that view.

If one assesses their own views as being so contentious that they can’t say them out loud (or even post them anonymously on a message board) then such self moderation can only be applauded.

It would also suggest that they have assessed their own views as being fundamentally crap.

You are missing the point HP. The reason that many people don't post on here is that, unless their view is consistent with the majority, it is often impossible to have a rational debate, without things getting personal/abusive for no good reason. I used to enjoy having a vigorous debate on politics on here but gave up a couple of months and now just post apolitical stuff. A lot people simply can't be bothered to enter the debate, which is a shame. Anyway, I'm done on the particular topic - no need to believe me if you don't want to.
