This is the quote notably featured on the Palace website re-introducing Roy:
"I don’t think anybody needs to be told just what this football club means to me." Shaun Derry I wonder if this alludes to his falling out with PV and thus to PV's subsequent sacking?

He is stupid if he didnt!

Parish watches every game so surely he could see for himself that neither player should be automatic picks based on their performances on the pitch

Will be interesting to see how Eze and Edouard perform under Roy.

He also saw what effect his highly paid coach had on 2 of our pretty decent assets.

Yep (sadly). Put aside rumours that he was struggling to motivate himself let alone the players, one of the best possible explanations I have read is that Parish could see a repeat of the Pardew situation, i.e in the first year, the players enjoyed the freedom of an attacking style but still had the fitness/discipline from the previous manager. By year two that wears off and lack of fitness starts to show. In the Pardew 2016 season we fortunately had enough points in January to stay up. No such luxury this season.

I was just revisiting some stats I had looked at before and noticed the following:
Palace top the PL table for both 'unsuccessful touches' - i.e. bad control AND Dispossessed - i.e. Player is dispossessed on the ball by an opponent – no dribble involved. The top 6 for both of those within the club are Zaha, Ayew, Olise, Mateta, Edouard and Ebs just with a slightly different order for each. Wilf actually tops the Premier League for the dispossessed stat and ranks 3rd for poor control. To add insult despite not dribbling as often as he used to, he still tops the PL unsuccessful dribbles. If you add them all together (which is legitimate, on a per 90 basis) he loses the ball on an average of 10.6 times per 90 mins. His positives make him our best player and most dangerous still but crikey that is an awful lot. Ayew total is 8.7, Olise 7.5 and Edouard 7.1 and then it dips into the 5's for the other two. Caveat - taken from whoscored detailed stats and I filtered based on played more than 10 matches to avoid the weird stuff.

Yet more appalling stats to go with the rest such as not running enough, rarely shooting etc. Have to say it hardly helps the case for the defence that PV should have stayed. |

Pretty sure a lot of those dispossessions are when he's back to goal and tries to erm, roll (?) the defender and counter. Often felt like he tries it too much and they've worked it out.

You should never draw conclusions from any specific stat but I don't think I would simply dismiss as meaningless, but more like signposts. Particularly as it matches what you should see with your eye - i.e. the ball doesn't stick up front. The reasons for this are not exclusively due to these stats or individuals. Stats like these should just make us look more carefully at what is really going on. i.e. see past who we expect to play well before the KO.
